Not Quite A Mistake

Chapter 5-Georgia

It has been a week since the incident between...well I don't even know the man and it has yet to leave my mind.What I'm getting stuck on is whether or not we used protection.When the thought came to mind I panicked and thought things over thoroughly.I came to the conclusion that we were responsible enough to use a condom since I am not on birth control.

I was once again in the café making a few pastries when Jeremy walked in.

"Gia!I want five slices of free apple pie!"he slapped his hand on the counter and I rolled my eyes.

"Hello to you too,"I rinsed off my hands and walked to the scattered chairs.I took a seat and he plopped his arse down on a table.

"What's got you all grumpy?"I scowled at him and let out a sigh.

"Rough week,"I replied and ran my hand through my hair.

"Ouch what happened?"Then,I told him everything that happened with a lot less detail.

"So you're telling me you actually listened to my advice and got laid?"he looked at me with a smirk and I rolled my eyes.

"Well it doesn't count that we were both drunk,"I looked towards the door and the little girl from last time entered with a big coat and her cheeks rosy from the cold.I didn't see the old lady anywhere and quickly stood up and went behind the counter.

"Hi sweetie,where's your grandma?"I assumed it was her grandma and she looked up at me with big blue eyes.

"Grandmother is at home.I came from preschool,"she replied and my eyebrows shot up.

"In what part is your preschool?"I asked as I led her to a booth and gave her a colouring page with crayons.

"The name is Helga's Preschool,"she said instead and I mentally saw it infront of my eyes.

"Well what are you doing here alone.It's dangerous out there,sweetie,"she looked down and fiddled with the crayons.

"I wanted some of your brownies miss,"my heart melted and I smiled at her warmly.I walked to the pastryrack and took out two brownies and made her a cup of hot cocoa.

I handed them to her and she nodded and thanked me.

"Eat up so we can take you back so that your mommy doesn't worry too much about you,"her eyes darkened and she grabbed her small backpack and ran out of the café.I looked back at Jeremy and ran after her.She was running towards the road without stopping and a taxi was driving full speed towards her.My eyes widened and I ran as quick as I could and pushed her out of the road and onto the pathway.Before I could react an impact knocked my breath out of me as I heard glass crack and excruciating pain in my head.My eyes rolled to the back of my head as I feel my ribs crack.The last thing I hear before I pass out,is a little girl's pleads and cries.

"Mr.Black,I am sorry to inform you that your daughter is in the hospital,"my eyes snapped up to George he burst through my office doors.The pen I was previously holding dropped,the room suddenly smaller than I remembered.

I jumped up ftom my seat and grabbed my car keys.

"What the hell happened and at what hospital?"I barked and he blew out a breath and directed me to a hospital no longer than ten minutes away.Knowing Lily was possibly in trouble I would probably arrive there in less than five minutes.I started my Porsche and it roared to life.I reversed out of the parking lot and sped down the street.

"I didn't get much details from the hospital but I do know that she's not in a critical state.Mr.Black,she ran off from the pre-school to some bakery or café I think,"I grit my teeth in anger and pressed on the accelerator.

Thoughts that were anything but optimistic ran through my mind as I parked on a handicap spot.I locked the doors as I ran through the hospital doors and looked towards the receptionist.Almost immediately she began to fix her hair as I approached.

"Lily Black.Where is she?"I demanded and she bat her eyelashes and barely glanced at the binder.

"Sir,I don't think there's someone here under that name.Why don't you take a s-"I glared at her and grabbed the binder.

"Where is the doctor?"I hissed as I saw Lily's name under the kids section.

"He is busy in surgery...I was thinkin-"she twirled a piece of dirty blonde hair between her bony fingers and I took a deep breath.

"You better get your s**t together and get the doctor before I lose my temper and make sure that you will never get a job again-"I looked at her nametag-"Jessica," she diverted her eyes and picked up a phone and called who I assumed to be the doctor.

"Yes,he is looking for a Lily Black?"I heard murmuring on the other side of the phone and she put the phone down.

"Second floor,third hall,room 31 to the left,"she cleared her throat and I hurried to the elevator.The metal doors slid open and I entered,my mind only on my daughter.The doors closed and my hands clenched by my sides as I remembered that I was supposed to pick her up from school.

"God,I am such a bad father,"I thought out loud.The doors once again slid open and I stepped onto the tiled floor,following the instructions of the receptionist.As I was walking some doctors came rushing by with someone on a wheeled bed,murmuring loudly and hurriedly.

And then,I caught a glimpse of the person that has invaded my mind with no consent.Faced bruised and head tied with a bandage.I froze in place as I watched them wheel her to the elevator.
