Chapter 4: Running with the pack

1052 Words
Once the others had joined me in the run, I ran up alongside Markus and side tackled him to the ground. We both went rolling along the path a couple of times and as usual, it ended with me pinned underneath him. We had play fought since my first change and even to this day I still couldn’t beat him. I bit his nose in annoyance, his eyes only showing humor at my outburst. He stepped away and let me get up. It wasn’t long before we came across a deer, Markus had us flank her and no one made a sound or moved a muscle once we were in position until Markus gave the go ahead. It was difficult to stay connected to your human side when in wolf form, and it took a lot of energy and concentration, usually we didn’t try so hard once we were away from humans, but when it came to killing and hunting other animals we all used that human connection to kill it as quickly and humanly as possible. It was important for us to keep a meat diet, if we didn’t feed the wolf within us, it not only made us start to lose more control over our wolf side but also displeased the moon goddess. The moon goddess was the one who chose which humans to bestow her gifts upon when born, she did not see it as a curse no matter the pain, she believed it was a most beautiful gift to be one with the wolf, to have two forms, to have the extra senses, to have the connection to both animal and nature. The moon goddess believed it taught us to respect the animal kingdom more as well as nature and taught us to be more humble humans. She could commune with all her children telepathically but like most gods she rarely did and more often prayers were met with silence, but that did not mean she ignored you. I know she had helped me lots of times when I had asked and if ever anyone doubted her existence we only need look at the veins beneath our skin, softly glowing gold so that we had to not get too close to humans for fear of them noticing and the closer to the full moon it was the stronger our veins glowed and burned golden. It was only the female wolves that had this mark, the males didn’t have to worry and no one was sure why their veins did not glow gold, some thought maybe it was because the moon goddess was female and so it was a female thing, I had no clue, all I knew was that when the full moon was out not only did the females veins glow golden and bright, but we were extremely fertile on that night. That did not mean we mated in wolf form either, not unless that was your kink anyway. Once we had changed into wolf form, we were then free to change back at will whenever we wanted, seeing as it was so painful, no one was in a rush to turn back, but if someone was trying for a baby, then they usually turned back before the rest of us. Once we finished eating, we had fun. Some wolves ran through the trees, the run always felt amazing, while others like myself play fought one another. I looked over to see Mason and Rachel play fighting with one another, Rachel nipping and jumping back and then running in again to tackle him. He was obviously letting her win the game as he didn’t put up much of a fight and of all the wolves in our pack besides me, Rachel was the weakest in a fight. I knew at this point there was no stopping their blossoming romance between one another, but that didn’t mean I couldn’t still run over and join them. So I did. I ran over and just launched my whole big furry body at Rachel so that we tumbled to the floor and roly pollied our way down the small side hill. I landed on top and playfully bit her ear, which was my mistake because I gave her an opening to my neck which she took in her mouth and gently squeezed her teeth. I took it as the win it was and submitted. We both turned to look back a few yards to see Mason had trotted over to us and watched to see which of us would win. I got up off the floor and pretended to be in a strop, running past Mason and making sure I knocked hard into his side to make him stumble. A good five to six hours had passed when we were all pretty much ready to change back, Bryan, another of our pack came over and dropped a big bag to the floor that he’d carried with us in his teeth. It had our clothes, simple clothes, so they would fit in the bag. Plain white t-shirts and jogging bottoms. Everyone grabbed their clothing in between their teeth and wondered off to somewhere private to change. It wasn’t a nice experience changing, so we all liked to have privacy. I took my own clothes and trotted over to a big tree and hid behind it and began the painful process of changing back. When I was done, I quickly pulled on my clothes and shoes, some soft slip on’s I ran over to join the others who had finished changing. When we were all ready, we made our way back home not having to worry about being seen now, wearing the same clothing could easily be pulled off as a group of runners. We didn’t always change back in the woods, it was a little risky on the of chance someone walking their dog came in or a couple wanting privacy, but it had been a quiet night tonight and our wolf hearing let us hear as far as almost two miles so no one could have snuck up on us. When we got back home, I was exhausted and headed straight for bed, I just about managed to brush my teeth before climbing into bed and passing out for the night.
