The Royal Letter
Selena's Pov: "Miss Selena, miss Selena." Little John called my name as I was on my way home. I swiftly turned around as he ran up to me panting and I saw myself smiling. "Yes John. What is the problem?" I asked gently. "Nothing miss Selena. Just wanted to tell you that tomorrow is my birthday," he said with a smile. "That's wonderful, don't worry I've got a surprise package for you." I replied knowing quite well I've got none. 1st thing as I return home, I'll make him a lovely present. "Don't worry about such miss selena, my mum said I should give this gift to you since I wouldn't be present in the next class due to my health condition," little John said as I stared at him sadly and collected the gift. "Bye miss Selena I'll miss you and stay safe." Little John wished me well as he ran towards the direction I think his father stood waiting for him. "And you too." I replied waving him a goodbye as he gently went out of my sight. I turned around heading to the direction of my home being quite proud of my profession. I'm glad I could teach those pupil in grade 5. They are such intelligent kids. I used my fingers to feel the object being wrap by a foil and noticed it was a big slice of cake with little teaching accessories. "Wow that's nice of his mum." I mumbled and trecked all the way back home since my house is just 30 minutes away from the village school. I finally got into the compound of my home as the usual scent of lavender hit my nose. I walked up to the door and opened it to see my family sited in the sitting room with gloomy expression. My granny, mother, father and elder brother swiftly turned their head towards the silent opened door staring at me. "What?" I blurted out in worry, feeling the tension of the room becoming more suffocating as they turned back towards the sitting room center table. I walked up to them and glanced at the middle table to see a well designed envelope. I glanced at them all with a confused look. "Why the over bearing expression? Why are you all looking distressed?" I questioned but no answer. Immediately my mother began to sob silently and my brother sad expression turn into sudden anger as he bowled his knuckles. My father held my crying mother in his hands staring at me with fear. And my grandmother sad expression turned into a completely emotionless one. "What's going on?" I queried this time with a shuddering vioce my heart beating fast against my chest. "Pick up the letter and read it to yuh convenience." Grandmother told me as I snapped my head towards the letter laid on the table. Just staring at it caused more uneasiness within my mind. I quickly picked it up to see it was from the Royal tribes of Florida Kingdom. I opened it and read it mumbling each words as terror build in. "Selena Edwim. The 1st daughter of the Edwim family, according to the wish of yuh grandfather Stanley Edwim and also approved by the late king Desmond you are to be betrothed to the young king, the current ruler of Florida Kingdom as his soon lucky wedded wife within 1 month and must meet the following requirements to be crowned as the queen of this kingdom. Tomorrow 1st thing by noon you'll be escorted by the Royal guards to the castle to be cousiled by the elder queen mother. With all this written down, going against this order lead to death of your loved ones. I wish you success." I read it to the last sentence tears dropping uncontrollably from my eyes as the Royal letter fell to the ground. "No... No... No. This can't be. Just how and why? Why?" I muttered in complete disbelief while holding my hair as I began to breath uncontrollably staring at my grandmother, my crying mother, then to my father and my elder brother. "What the hell is this?" I question almost in a loud vioce. "Whatever it is you'll be leaving for the Royal castle by noon tomorrow so you and yuh mother should go pack up yuh luggage." She told me with lack of emotions. This is not my sweet and caring grandmother. Why this sudden change? What happened to her? Why is she acting this way? "Grandmother you can't tell me you didn't know about this, all this while?" That was the question I blurted out not ready to comply and pack up. "I knew all this but..." "Why didn't you stop grandfather from making such irreversible mistake? Why didn't you tell us sooner? Why did you and grandfather hide it from us all this while? Why?" My brother named James cut my grandmother off with various questions shaking his head not willing to believe such senerio about to take place. I on the other hand could sense that he was hurting inside for my sake. I shifted my attention back to my grandmother with red eyes being inpatient for her reply. "When your grandfather made such vow I wasn't aware of such. I was later informed by your grandfather immediately Selena was given birth to. I would have told you all sooner but I didn't want to stir up any form of arguments. I've got no reason or whatsoever why you grandfather made such vow with the late king." My grandmother confessed as her distressed expression was now evident on her face. Immediately my mother's sob became loud." How would she fit in? She knows nothing about etiquette and historical royal cultures. How can such requirements be met up? Selena might die if she doesn't fit into their corrupt politics." My mother wailed in pain as she could sense of the suffering I'll face in such situations. My father held my mother's shoulders close to him as pain was also evident on his face but not knowing how to express what he's feeling deep inside as he kept staring at me with fear. "There must be an efficient reason to why your grandfather took such action. It hurts me deeply that Selena fate is in her hands, it's either she fights to live and fit in or she does nothing and die," my grandmother said as tears were evident in her eyes nodding her head trying to build up a little faith in her that I will not die. According to the stories narrated by many, "Does who aren't qualified but partake to be part of the royal traditions, cultural practices and believe but therefore doesn't meet up with the requirements of the tribes shall be sentenced to death". And there nothing more I can say that my fate reads untimely death. ************* Thank you all for reading the 1st chapter of this book next chapter is ready 😌😁.
