Chapter 1
Sabrina sat in the back of her mother’s grey ford focus, on her way to another new town for the ninth time this year. She couldn’t help think when would her grandfather return from being over the road. When he return she was surely going to back, she couldn’t wait to get away. “Sabrina,Sabrina, are you even listening what we are telling you”,yelled her mother. “Jame’s friends will be heading by to help set up. You need to go cover up so no one will stare at you, you’re becoming a women , and I don’t wanna hear tonight how comfortable you are.” If you cover up you won’t have a problem.” Sabrina tried to ignore her comment never understanding how she was the problem because she simply express how they made her feel. “Sabrina!” She yelled again. “Yes I heard you, how long did you said grandfather was over the road again?”” Sabrina replied. Rolling her eyes Jackie couldn’t help but think how could she ask such a thing after everything she been threw with her dad. Why her only child love her father so much. “Why do you need to know?” Jackie quickly snap. “Just curious”, Sabrina snap back. After all he has done she treats him as he’s the peasant. Sabrina had thought. “ Why couldn’t I have stayed at grandfather’s? I’m 15 I can survive for the six months he would be gone.” Sabrina sarcastically stated. Truth be told no one knew how long he was gonna be gone this time. “It’s would be no different then when grandma was alive”. Sabrina said snappily. Sabrina sat back and thought to her herself. Another truth was it would be but couldn’t let her mother know. Jackie calmly voice herself “you’re 15 if anyone found out you were alone children of youth will surely get involved”. Hoping that her child would not go on since they recently had their case close with child services. “It makes no difference as when you dropped me off last summer and I was left alone for 3 days”. Yelled Sabrina from the back. Sabrina had only been alone due to the fact her grandfather had just left to go over the road again, and her grandmother had just fallen ill. During the time her grandmother pushed for him to go no one would of thought that the worst was going to happen when he left. As far as her mother Sabrina had no idea where she was. The car fell silent when Sabrina bought up the three days. Jackie took a deep sigh “ Sabrina those three days should’ve never happened like they did, kiddo if I could rewind time I would.” As the car got even more silent Sabrina reimagined that day. Her grandmother had just kiss her grandfather good bye but to them it wasn’t good bye but see you later. She was always told don’t say goodbye cause it would be permanent. [Back to the last good day] “ Nancy I love you”, I’ll call when I drop my first load off”. Gerald yelled as he walked to her truck. “I love you too!” Nancy replied. Nancy head back inside the red brick house her and Gerald had built. As she had gotten in Sabrina had came running down the stairs staten “ have a I miss him, have I miss him?” “No not yet”, Nancy replied with a smile. Shooting pass her grandmother Sabrina sprinted out the screen door down the driveway leaving the screen door to swing back hard. “ I love you I’ll be here when you get back”, yelled Sabrina to her grandfather as he drove down the road. In return she heard a truck sound off the horn. It was her grandfather sending her a reply with his truck. I love that grand baby of mine, Gerald smile with the thought in his head. She headed back up the driveway as she proceeded to head up the driveway she had smiled smelling that breakfast was already done. Sabrina walked into the house and her grandmother yelled “ Are you hungry”. Sabrina began to smile knowing this wasn’t really a question but a statement as in come eat. Sabrina replied “ what do you have to eat it smells really good.” Nancy replied “we got bacon, eggs, sausage, biscuits, and grits”. Sabrina replied sharply with an eyebrow raised “I’ll take a biscuit with bacon” as she smiled to her grandmother. Nancy return sternly “with eggs and grits! I put cheese in both I know how much you like them.” Nancy had already made her plate so there was no backing out of eating it. Sabrina never mind her grandmother making her plate. Her happy place was with her grandparents. As Nancy gave Sabrina her plate she began telling her what she had plan. “ We have to head to the Tractor Supply to get the duck crumbles. That’s the most important part of over day.” Nancy smiled and laughed knowing that she keeps forgetting the ducks crumbles every time she leaves the house. Nancy began stating “I’m going upstairs to get ready as you eat just put your dishes in the stink when you’re finish. I’ll do them when we return home.” Nancy headed upstairs as Sabrina ate. Sabrina had been admiring the outside view. Her grandparents has always kept there property up. It was breath taking to her and she got peace out of it. Lord knew her the only time she had peace was here with her grandparents it was truly home for her. Sabrina finished her breakfast and did her dishes she never wanted to make extra work for her grandmother. She headed upstairs and bathe and got dressed as she was directed to do so by her grandmother. When she was done she headed downstairs to wait for her grandmother. “Sabrina” yelled Nancy as she was making her was downstairs. She was use to having to yell to her hurry but little did she realize Sabrina had been waiting for her. Sabrina popped her head from the living room saying ” ma’am I’m right here”. Nancy a little startled not realizing it was her who have been waiting. “I’m getting old and slow if you bet me down here”, she giggled at her granddaughter. Sabrina hated of thinking her grandparents word becoming older she knew it was impossible for them to stay the same for ever but she dreaded thinking about it. “You been the same since I know you”, Sabrina chuckled. Sabrina and Nancy made there way to the Honda box car in the driveway and began to head to Tractor Supply.
