Chapter 31Jeremy heard his parents fighting. From upstairs he couldn't understand the words, couldn't place the context. His father yelled. Something slammed against something. A fist against the wall? A palm on the tabletop? He stood at the bottom of the staircase, peeked around and into the kitchen. Sweaty hands held on tight to the railing post, his cheek resting against white knuckles. Cold tears rolled from his eyes. Blinking only blurred his vision.
