Sheriff Benji O'Sullivan thought he might be in shock. He had no idea what just happened. Someone—something—dropped out of the trees. Whatever it was, it had landed in the back of his wagon. The prisoner he was transporting, Jacob Gregory, was attacked.
No. It was more than that.
Jacob Gregory was dead. He'd been murdered.
As the law, he'd been unable to stop it.
Now, both of the Gregory brothers were dead. Both killed while in his custody.
The unusual murders pointed in one direction, at one particular person. Although Sheriff O'Sullivan didn't think it likely, not likely at all, he knew he needed to—at the very least—confront Elissa Crosby.
The Gregory boys were suspected in the murder of Elissa's young daughter.
