Thomas and his platoon were crouching motionlessly within the thick underbrush and foliage of the steamy and humid jungle. It was daylight but because the jungle canopy was so thick on this island, it may as well have been night. Yet the stark difference between the clearing in front of them and their own positions could not be more ironic because the difference was as day to night. The bright sun shown harshly upon the jungle of concrete and steel within the clearing before them. Guards patrolled the perimeter in measured paces, switching every so often with another guard in the rotation.
