APRIL 15TH, 1941 OPERATION MOTHBALL, ONE WEEK PRIOR TO THE RESCUE OF PRIVATE MARLON MATTHEWS All was quiet within the jungles of the island; nary a sound of wildlife could be heard under the auspices of the unusually bright moon. Yet within this tacit stillness of sound could be heard the harried rustling of foliage underfoot as a group of soldiers moved from cover to cover, the moonlight their only guide within the stillscape. Quick hand gestures took place between the soldier in the front and the various men taking positions around him. Ahead of this group lay an encampment of soldiers of a different uniform and persuasion. The encampment itself was fairly simple; a few rough tents of a green and brown camouflage pattern set off to the side of the clearing and a campfire in the middle
