Chapter 6. Lexi and the first shift
Lily POV
I left the party early. I didn’t feel much like celebrating and I wanted to prepare for my first shift. I was very excited to meet my wolf for the first time. What would her name be or what would she look like. It was almost midnight as I snuck out of the house. The party was just starting to end but there were still people milling about, and as midnight struck I heard a pop and a voice fill my head. Hello, HELLO Lily! I gasped and stumble a bit as I sit on a nearby rock. I had come to the woods so I could do my first shift like I do everything. Alone. Lily girl listen we need to shift like now. I feel like I’m tracking a scent but I won’t be sure until after the shift when your senses are fully heightened. Please Lily you can have control right back. I start at the tree in front of me and I’m trying to wrap my head around what she has just told me. She didn’t even tell me her name yet but she wants to shift for a scent. Not even to bond with me but because of that. I feel like even for my wolf I’m not worthy. She senses my thought and even though I said nothing she sighs. Lily, I’m so sorry I made you feel that way. My name is Lexi it’s very nice to meet you. I’m just anxious because I feel our mate is near but I can’t get a good track of his sent. Please help us find him. It’s very nice to meet you too Lexie and thanks for that. Of course let’s shift, I want to run and I can feel you do too. I start there for a moment and strip my clothes and leave them on the rock. Then I think of Lexi and will her forward, giving her control. I feel my bones starting to crack and take new form. It is very painful but I keep taking deep breaths and within a minute I’m on all fours. My vision is better. Even though it’s night with the light of the full moon I can almost see as if it was broad daylight. I smile inwardly and ask Lexi before we go after our mate to go to the small pond a few yards away. I want to see what we look like. When we get there I gasp. We are a dark rust colored wolf, which is very rare. Her eyes are a brilliant cerulean blue that almost look as if they are glowing. Our paws are a deep red almost the color of blood and something I’ve never seen before on our chest over my heart white patch of fur shaped like a crescent moon. Something is telling us both that we should not be seen in our wolf for that it needs to be kept a secret so we go back to the rock for me to shift back and change. As we leave the woods we pick up this scent and Lexie is going crazy in the back of my head. Lily it’s our mate, please find him we need him now. I walk toward the pack house as I’m assuming that he was at the party earlier. As I sniff the air the scent of coffee and soap (like the scent of Irish Spring) fill the air. He must have been all around because it’s too thick in the are and I can’t trace it. I walk into the pack house and it’s less strong there but it’s a trail now that I can follow. I slowly start walking up the stairs to the next floor, the guest floor, and it’s still going up. I stop in my tracks. Without a reason I should not be going any higher as the next floor is for the Beta and Gamma and their families, with the top floor for the Alpha and his family. At this point Lexi is trying to push forward and I’m fighting her for control of my human form. She wants to rush up and find him but I’m scared. Why would my mate be here? Did he do something wrong that he is being held captive? No, that wouldn’t make sense then he would be in the cells. I’m at a loss so I force her back and start heading home. We will investigate tomorrow during my cleaning shift. I run home and up to my room and look at the ceiling and sigh. I wander what he will be like, hopefully I don’t have to wait too long to find out.
