CHAPTER 7 *SANTANA MILLER* Days have gone by torturely… if there's even a word like that. I’ve been trying to avoid Craig and Brian for the last two weeks to prevent myself from throwing up. Brian has been silent ever since the party incident and I’m glad that he is, because if he insists, I don’t know what to do. I’m so hopeless when it comes to those things. Craig on the other hand has been the total opposite. He talks to me all the time. The only time that I can escape from him is when I am at work. Carmen and Mel have been so great. I love the coffee shop; it’s like a little heaven. Carmen is pretty too, but I guess I’m more affected with the opposite s*x when it comes to beautifulness. The two G guys, short for Gorgeous, didn’t know that I work. I don’t want to let them know, because recently they’ve been so protective over me…over my health. Even Brian, we’re not talking but I know he’s watching me secretly about what I do, or if I vomit or stuff. Stupid Jerks. They’ve been suspicious about me at first going out of the house, because of what they already know about me being unsociable. I just make some stupid excuses like being alone in a cemetery or at the park. It’s like I’m making excuses with my “dads”, while they are out almost every night partying. I can’t believe that I’ve let those jerks kiss me… well on Brian’s case I did It first… but it really doesn’t matter, they are still man w****s. Today is the first day of school, good thing I already know someone aside from Brian. “What do you actually do when you’re not babysitting… us?” I asked Craig while we are in the car for school; I’m at the back seat. He looked at me in the rearview mirror. “That’s a secret.” He said and smirked. I pouted and cross my arms across my chest. Brian and I are totally ignoring each other’s presence. We finally arrived at the school and I got much attention that is not really needed…. Oh right I’m with these two hot jerks that made the girls gather around. I manage to save my life and found my way out of the crowd. I swear I felt some daggers pierced into my skin when jealous girls saw me getting out from the car. I looked back at them when I’m was the safe distance, I saw the blonde girl that hooked up with Craig at the party and boy… they made a scene. I am so gross out that I wanted to puke but prevented myself when I saw Carmen waving at me. “Hey, did you see them?” She said enthusiastically. “See what?” “Duh? The most gorgeous and hot ass in school. Brian Hart!” She said dramatically. “Huh? Really where?” I said innocently and without interest. Carmen pointed out Brian whose already flirting with the girls. “OOOhhh who’s the new hottie?” She said. “Oh, Craig?”  Carmen jerked her head towards me and I bit my tongue for my stupidity. “How did you know his name?” Carmen asked with suspicious look. I swallow a lump on my throat. “Erm… ah… I heard the girls talking about him earlier when I was waiting for you.” I said hoping that she would believe me and thank goodness cause she nodded. “Oh well, at least we know his name. Oh do you have a crush on him? Cause I would go for Brian if you do… you know that rules, friends shouldn’t like the same guys or girls” She said. Me like Craig? No way! “Ewww.” I grimace. “That would be so gross.” She raised an eyebrow and before she could say something… I am saved by the bell. I got my schedule and I only have two classes with Carmen which sucks. I went to my first class and found a seat at the back. “Hey” someone said almost whispering in the middle of class. “Huh?” “Your new here right?” A cute guy said. He has a small light of handsomeness, but it didn’t bother me. “Yeah.” I said. “Ah… I’m White… Darren White.” He said introducing himself. I raised my eyebrow. I’m not really noticeable back at my old school. “Uhm… Hi?” I said. I don’t really know what to do in this kind of situation. He chuckled. “What’s your name?” “Oh… Miller, Santana Miller.” I said. “So your friends with that Brian guy?” He ask and for the second time I raised my eyebrow at him. “huh?” “Sorry, I don’t mean to be rude. I just saw you getting out of the car with him.” He said. “ah.. oh erm… they just gave me a ride to school, cause… my… bicycle broke when I was on the way here.” I lied. How come he asks about Brian? “Oh okay…” He said. The bell rang signaling for lunch, the most horrific time for an unsociable person like me. I struggle to pass all the people going to different direction. Carmen is nowhere to be found. I grab my lunch and lucky for me I found an empty table. I looked around hoping to see Carmen but no I see Brian with his brightness and his smile that makes all the girls fall for him. We made eye contact but I ended it first, I’m eating so basically I might throw all the food up with his gorgeousness. “Hey… can I sit with you?” The guy from earlier said, what’s his name again? Daryll… right Darren. “Yeah… sure.” I said and shrug my shoulders. He sat across from me. “So you don’t have any friends yet?” “Actually I do, but she’s nowhere to be found.” I said while eating. “Why don’t you call him… or her.” “It’s a her. I don’t have a phone.”  I said. His jaw dropped and I laugh at his reaction that made some head turn to our table. “You’re just kidding right?” “No, I’m not. I just don’t find it useful for me. But don’t tell me that I live in the old era, I have a laptop.” I said. “No way!” He exclaimed, and heads turn to us again. And I laugh. “What’s so funny?” Darren and I looked at the owner of the squeaky voice. Carmen. “Where have you been?” I ask. “That’s a secret.” She said and sat beside Darren and gave him a wink. “I’m Carmen by the way.” “Ahh… I’m Darren.” He said and shook hands with her. “I know we’re like classmates since kindergarten and you never seem to notice me even back at our old school.” Carmen said with a disappointed look. Darren and I both looked shock. “I… really? We … I am so sorry.” Darren said. After a while of pouting Carmen burst out laughing. Some eyes were on us again. “I can’t believe that you fell for that.” She said with tears in her eyes from laughing to much. Me and Darren were both dumbfounded. “It was a joke? You are such an ass, I fell for that too.” I said and laugh with her. “I know, that’s what it makes it funnier. Admit it his reaction is so funny.” Carmen said, still laughing. “Yeah.. it’s priceless.” I said. “You guys are ganging up on me on the first day of class, I can’t believe it.” Darren said and laugh with us. “Sorry you’re just so funny.” I said. We talked the whole lunch period. I’ve learned that Darren is a new student too, that’s why Carmen said that they’ve been classmates from the other school. He knew about Brian because all the girls from his class talked about him this morning. He wants to try out basketball too, so Carmen and I decided to watch him later. The afternoon came and we went to the basket ball court. “He’s so cute!” Carmen squeal when we saw Darren. “Do you have a crush on him?” I ask. “Yeah , I think so, but I love him more.” She said and pointed another player with a number 08 jersey.  Brian? He’s a varsity?! I exclaimed in my mind. “Wow! He is so hot.” Carmen said when he made a three point shot together with all the girls in the gym. He seems to like all the attention that is given to him. Darren waves at us when he saw us. “Thank goodness you’re here, I’m so nervous and did you see that? Brian just made a three point shot without any sweat.” I rolled my eyes with Darren’s obvious admiration of Brian, I think he’s gay. "I know right? He’s so cool.” Carmen said. The coach blew a whistle. “Okay guys, that’s my call.” Darren said and ran towards the other guys who I assume wanted to try out too. As I watch them, my stupid eyes landed on Brian and we made eye contact again. This time, he ended it first.  “What the…” I mutter and Carmen looked at me. “What?” She asks. “Oh nothing.” We sat on the bleachers and watch Darren, we made some cheers too. I was never like this from my old school. I guess changing my outfit helped. Since I only saved one outfit from my old clothes, I can’t wear it at school every day. At the end of the try out Darren made it so we made a happy dance that made some heads turn to us for the hundredth time today. Carmen and I have to work so we brought Darren along with us. “Wow, this is so cool.” He said when he saw the ginger bread house coffee shop. “I know, that’s the exact thing that I said when I saw this place.” I said and we led him inside. “Hey guys, you brought a new friend?” Mel asked when we got inside. “Yup, Darren meet my pretty mom and mom meet my future husband, Darren.” Carmen said and we all fell silent. Mel raised an eyebrow. Carmen sighed. “Mom I have something to tell you.” She said with a serious tone. Darren and I knew that this is going to be one of her pranks. “I’m pregnant.” But we didn’t expect that one coming. Mel gasps and looked at Darren who is speechless at the moment. I bit my tongue to prevent myself from laughing. “You young man, we have to talk.” Mel said. Carmen grabbed her mom’s arms. “It’s joke mom.” She said and laugh. Mel whacked Carmen upside the head. “Ow that hurt.” Carmen said. “You little son of a…” “Watch your mouth mom, it will go back to you, you know that.” She said. She can actually talk to her mom like that. Mel released a breath. Darren and I chuckled. “You will have a word with me later and don’t ever joke like that again, or else I’m going to send you back to where you belong.” Mel threatened her. “Fine, I will behave well mother.” She said and wink at us. After hours of serving the customers, my shift finally ended. Darren left earlier. Mel and Carmen didn’t know where I live but now that I know how famous Brian is at school, it erase my plan on telling Carmen about my situation. “Where have you been young lady?” Craig said with his arms across his chest, standing at the front door, like a dad waiting for his young daughter from her first date. “Can I at least come in first?” I said rolling my eyes at him. He made some way for me. I didn’t have an excuse prepared this time. “I….” “Don’t you dare lie to me young lady.” Craig said while following me to the kitchen. I am so thirsty. I was taken aback when I saw Brian in there, drinking some… thing. “I went to a study group.” I said when an idea pops into my head. I heard Brian hissed. “What?” I said looking at him. “Nothing, I just thought that the study group thing is a lame excuse.” He said not looking at me. I rolled my eyes. “But it’s the truth.” I insisted. “More like hooking up with your boyfriend.” “What boyfriend are you talking about?” He’s getting on my nerves. He stood up and now we’re facing each other. “The one that you made you all giggly at the cafeteria?” he said. I grimace. “I didn’t giggle, we were laughing and why the heck would you care about me? Why don’t you just focus on the flock of girls that wants to be with you?” I said with a high tone on my voice. “Are you jealous?” “What?! I exclaimed and I heard Craig chuckled. “You started it with me all giggly with Darren.” “So the boyfriend has a name.” he teased me more. “Or are you jealous?” I said staring at him. There was silence between the two of us. There was a noise from outside. Craig went out to check it out. Brian and I are still staring at each other. “I never get jealous.” He said after a while and kissed me. His hands were cupped into my face. His kiss became deep but fast like he was craving. I can’t breathe. I tried to push his hands away from my face, but he’s too strong. Then finally he let go of me. We we’re both panting. “That’s for assuming that I’m jealous.” He said firmly. I felt my heart is hurt. I don’t know why. I can’t contain the tears and it just flow freely on my cheeks. I'm mad at him for kissing me like that. I’m mad because he somehow violated my body. Or am I mad because he said that he never gets jealous? I don’t know what to think any more. “Guys guess who’s here.” Craig said and I immediately wipe my tears away. “Surprise!”
