CHAPTER 9
ENZO'S POV
I was sitting in my office, getting up to head out. Needing a break from work, from everything really.
I haven't heard from Dante in weeks, though I don't plan to contact him. But I would be lying if I didn't feel uncomfortable without his clown presence in the house.
As I started to walk out, my phone started to ring on my desk.
Deciding to let it ring out, I poured myself a cup of Vodka. Turning to walk out of my office to get some fresh air. Maybe go and see if Kelly was up for some bedroom fun.
Kelly was known for sleeping around, so I knew there would be no strings attached after our quick f***s.
The phone only rang again, causing me to groan as I shut the door with a slam behind me.
I walked outside sitting on the staircase, watching the tree branches move as the wind pushed them harshly.
After 30 minutes I decided to head back in. Too much time without something to do made my mind drift, and I didn't like the thoughts that came flooding with it.
I opened my office door, shutting it behind me. As I could hear my phone still ringing.
I only placed the cup and bottle on my shelf, walking up to the phone answering it with frustration.
"If this is you Dante-"
"Enzo." My face turned pale, time froze around me as her voice echoed over the phone line.
"A-Alina?" I stuttered, not believing that she was alive, let alone on the phone to me.
But then my mind fell to thoughts about her. How was she alive? Where was she? Is she okay? Was kidn*pped?
"How are you- no. This isn't possible. Where are you? Where have you been all this time?"
But the phone line was dead silent.
"Alina?" I called out. Even saying her name out loud caused shivers in me.
Everything felt so surreal.
"I'm sorry Enzo. But I don't have time to talk. I just called to ask you to call off the follower you have tailing me." She replied, but it didn't sound like her. It didn't sound like my Alina.
This woman sounded cold, dangerous. Different to the woman I've known.
"Wait- Follower?" My mind then hit a light bulb as it made sense.
"Dante." I mumbled out loud.
"You have Dante following me??" She panicked. Sensing fear in her tone, I gripped the phone tightly.
"Its going to be okay, I'll call Dante. Everything will be fine. Just tell me where you are, Alina. I'll come pick you up now."
I heard Alina breath heavily over the phone.
"I can't do that, Enzo." I felt my heart drop and shatter.
"Where have you been this entire time?" I whispered in defeat. "I thought you were dead."
"I know." I heard her faint voice whisper, just before the phone line went dead.
Clenching the phone, I felt my eyes begin to burn. My teeth clenching together.
But this time it wasn't from sadness. It was from anger.
I felt so much emotion rise through me, but the one that stood out more was betrayal.
What was it that caused her to fake her own death? To leave me? Did she not love me anymore?
But if so, didn't she think I could handle a simple break up. Instead of this? Mourning over a woman who wasn't even dead!
Dialing Dante's number into the phone, I waited for him to pick up.
"What do you want?" I heard him scoff.
"You were right." I replied in anger.
"You got to be more specific, brother. I'm right about a lot of things. So, you need to narrow it down for me." His voice held so much smug in it, I just wanted to punch that look off his face.
But remembering we aren't in the same room, I groaned out.
"Alina. She called not long ago, talking about a certain annoying dog tailing her." I smirked saying the last part.
"I knew it!" He cheered over the line.
"Yeah, well I need you to get your ass over here." I replied.
"Oh. Is someone regretting kicking out a very intelligent, sexy, wise, amazing-"
"Enough, Dante. Okay, you were right. Just, get your ass over here so we can find her."
Dante chuckled.
"Way ahead of you, brother. I'll be there in 20." The phone went dead, as I slumped down on my chair.
Looking over at my empty glass, i realised I was going to need more alcohol if I was going to be faced with my dead woman.
