CHAPTER 2

1660 Words
Emma, who was fully dressed, cupped her face with a sigh and looked at the man who slept peacefully on the bed. She couldn't believe that she had slept with a stranger willingly the previous night. She quietly picked up her shoes and left the room, making sure not to make a sound. Meanwhile, Ryan had woken up while she was dressing, but couldn't bring himself to open his eyes, as it was unlike him to sleep with a stranger. She walked down the stairs and saw her sister at the counter with the luggage she had left while going to find the restroom. Cassy turned, and tears gathered up in her eyes as she saw Emma. “You look awful." She said and ran into Emma’s arms. Emma sighed. She was already tired of crying over what Marcel had done to her, and now, all she was thinking about was what her father had done to her. Her father had been so focused on her and whom she got married to, not because he loved her, but because she was a means to an end. Emma sniffed as she fought back the angry tears that had gathered up in her eyes and broke the hug. All she did was stay respectful to make her parents happy, but her kindness was taken for weakness, and this drove her crazy. *** A knock was heard on Ryan's door, and he jumped down from the bed immediately. “Sam?" He called out. His voice was almost in a whisper as he wrapped himself with the duvet. “Yes, sir," Sam answered, and Ryan heaved a sigh of relief. Sam walked in and saw how agitated his boss looked. Ryan was wiping off sweat from his forehead while the AC was on, and this bothered Sam. Sam's eyes met with Ryan's only to see him glaring at him. “Where the hell were you?" He barked at Sam, and at the same time, he felt he couldn't blame Sam because he would have been taking a shower when the strange lady had entered. *** “Oh my God!" Cassy gasped as she saw a post online. She and Emma had boarded a taxi and were on their way to a more convenient hotel, where Emma was going to stay in the meantime, which she was going to pay for because Emma's credit cards had been blocked already. Emma rolled her eyes, knowing it was one of Cassy’s dramatic moments. “Mr. Wright was spotted last night here in Los Angeles." She screamed, frightening the driver who stopped abruptly in the middle of the road, and different cars began waiting for their car to move. “Sorry." She whispered as she chuckled nervously. She looked at Emma and noticed she didn't have any reaction on her face after hearing the news she had let out. She sighed as she remembered that her sister was no fan of social media and didn't know a lot of people. But she felt Emma should know about who she was talking about. “ Don't tell me you don't know Mr. Wright. Everyone's Mr. Right? All the ladies go crazy about him." She tried to bring out a word from her sister's mouth, but it was all to no avail. She sighed and brought her phone close to Emma’s face, and on seeing his picture, Emma's eyes popped open as she let out a scream, making the car stop again. The driver quickly parked beside the road, went down, and took Emma's luggage out of the car as they followed suit. “Why did you scream like that?" Cassy asked as they stood waiting for another cab. Emma's mind was flooded with several thoughts. She had slept with someone whose life everyone was interested in. What would become of her if people were to find out about what happened between them? “Emma?" Cassy called for the umpteenth time, and Emma snapped out of her thoughts. “Why did you react that…” " We had a one-night stand, Cassy.” Emma blurted out, and Cassy paused. She was thrown off guard by what Emma had just said. “Damn, sis. You're a baddie now." Cassy said with a forced smile, and she couldn't hide the worry on her face. “What if someone had recorded you going into the hotel with…” " I know that already." She interrupted as she thought of what to do about the situation. An idea suddenly popped into her mind. “Does he follow you too?" Emma asked, pointing towards Cassy’s phone. “Sure." She flipped her hair backward with a proud smile. “I mean, who doesn't follow CJ?" She added, but Emma had already snatched her phone, clicked on his name, and began to construct a message to him. She took a deep breath and handed the phone back to Cassy, who read the message she had sent and gasped as she stared at her. “What have you done with my sister?” *** Ryan Wright was on his phone as they drove to his father's company when a message popped up on his phone from his father,, rescheduling their meeting for the next day. He sighed, and suddenly, he saw another message from i********: and opened it. His eyes widened in shock. “Sam, who's CJ?" He asked, and Sam beamed with a smile because he always followed and enjoyed all the content on her page. “Oh my! Are you part of the CJ army? We're family….” " Answer the damn question, Sam.” He said, already exhausted with Sam's suspense, and Sam muttered a " sorry.” " Cassy is a popular blogger who is known for her authentic stories, which have never been proven false because she posts with evidence.” He explained, and Ryan gulped. “I just feel so sorry for her big sister." He added with a sigh. " Meet me at Felix Lounge’s bar in two hours, or I'll post the video of the one-night stand you had last night on all social media platforms.” He read, and Sam gulped. "CJ doesn't pull pranks like this. I suggest you take it seriously, sir." Sam said and started driving back to Felix Lounge. *** Ryan Wright walked into the bar with Sam behind him, and as he sighted the lady he had a one-night stand with, he stopped dead in his tracks, and it suddenly began to make sense to him as he walked up to her. Now that she knew who he was, she wanted to extort money from him by blackmailing him. He let out a light chuckle as he sat next to her. He sighed and faced Emma, looking deep into her eyes as she tried to keep her cool. She cleared her throat and took a deep breath. “It's nice meeting you again, Mr. Wright." She said confidently with a faint smile and ordered a drink, while Ryan kept his eyes on her. “My Name is Emma Johnson, and I want to marry you." She said all at once, throwing Ryan and Sam off guard. Ryan chuckled as he stared at her. She admired how his eyes squinted, and his dimples creased as his face beamed with a smile, but that was less important at the moment. “You're unbelievable." He said as he tried to keep a straight look, which was hard for him because he still found the scenario funny. “Okay." He chuckled again. " I see what's going on here.” He signaled Sam, who stood three meters away from him, to bring his briefcase. He opened it, brought out his checkbook, wrote a check, and handed it over to Emma. “This is a cheque of ten million dollars." He said, and Emma’s eyes popped open as she couldn't believe her eyes. " Take this and stay away from me.” He said and stood up to leave, but Emma pulled him back by the arm of his suit, which shocked him and Sam. She cleared her throat. " Listen, I don't like you, and I don't want your money,” She said as she tore the cheque into pieces, shocking the waiter at the counter, and ran her hands through her hair. “I just want to marry you. Is that so hard?” She asked. Ryan stood up, adjusted his suit, threw some money on the counter, and began to walk out without uttering a word, as he was mad at the fact that his time was being wasted by some random girl. “I'm going to marry you, Mr Wright." She yelled behind him, dragging everyone's attention, and Ryan cursed under his breath. *** Ryan stared at his wristwatch as he sat in his father's office, waiting patiently, and sprang up to his feet immediately after the door was pushed open. His father walked in with some documents in his hands, adjusted his suit, and signaled him to sit, as he sat opposite him. “Although you have companies in your name, you also need my company, and my offer still stands. Get married and I'll happily retire.” William Wright said with a smirk, and Ryan wondered why his father wanted to retire. There was no doubt that his father was getting old, but his body proved otherwise. He had grey hairs, but he was still agile and fit like someone in his fifties. “Zelda is still a good choice for…” " I have someone I want to get married to.” Ryan blurted out and regretted it immediately as his mind drifted to Emma, making him cringe, and he tried to hide his expression with a faint smile. He didn't wa nt to get married to her, but he was willing to do anything so he wouldn't end up with Zelda Lane.
