Chapter 1 Betrayal
(Axel’s POV)
Anger, pain, betrayal, that is all I can feel as I run through the woods. I was hoping that the feeling of the wind through my midnight black fur would help calm me down. But Hunter and I are too mad: ‘She shouldn’t have had to go through that, we shouldn’t have had to go through that.’ Hunter yells at me, I roll my eyes as I snap back ‘Do you think I don’t know that?’ I keep running everything back over in my head, looking for signs that would lead to these events, for a reason for this betrayal.
Oh, my poor mate, my poor Angel. She did not deserve to go through all that heartache. I am so glad the doctor put her under sedation to help her sleep. Even if it is just for a few hours, she needs to sleep, she needs to keep her mind off of what just happened. I stop running as I close my eyes, running the events back through my mind once last time.
**Flashback**
“Axel, Skyler, Aiden, it’s time to come and eat your dinner, your game can wait until after.” Angel called us, hoping this time we will listen to her.
“Come on boys, before your mother yells at me for not being a good example.”
Skyler, my twelve-year-old laughs at me as he says, “She knows you are the biggest kid of us all dad.”
Aiden, my 6-year-old, laughs as he nods in agreement with his older brother as he replies, “mom tells us you ARE her biggest kid dad.” I rolled my eyes at that, but smiled.
We all rush into the kitchen, where we find my beautiful pregnant mate with dinner waiting for us. The boys grab their plates as they say, ‘thank you’ and go to the table.
“So, I am your biggest kid, hmm?” I tease her.
She smiles up at me and shrugs, “I have to coax you to dinner just as much or more than your boys. So, yes I would say you are the biggest kid here.”
We all sit down to eat, talking about our day, and laughing as we joke around with each other. I look at my little family, loving how their faces light up as they take their turn talking. Everything is perfect, that is until I feel someone trying to mind link me.
‘What?’ I snap when I open the mind link. What I hear after makes my blood run cold.
‘Alpha, rogues have gotten past the broader and are headed straight towards the pack house. I tried to get hold of Alex, but I don’t know where he went’ Jordan, my third, reported.
My eyes went wide as I turned to look at my Mate, “Angel, take the boys and go to the safe house, make sure all the non-warriors are there. Lock the door, and don’t come out until Alex, Jordan, or myself come to get you.”
She nodded, her eyes wide as she replied back, “I will, but you be safe, and Axel, you better be the one to come get us.”
She ran out of the room, the boy right on her tail. I run out the back door and let Hunter take over as we shift. I mind link the rest of the pack as we run towards the woods, ‘The pack is under attack, everyone to your positions.’ I am soon joined by warriors as we run to defend the pack, my third is on my left, leaving me to wonder where is my Beta?
We get to the where the rogues are and see that there is only 150 rogues in front of us, I smirk knowing this will be easy, knowing I have 200 warriors. We take them down within 10 minutes, leaving two alive.
I shift back to my human self, and look at the two rogues, “SHIFT!” I command.
They shift back, one is smirking to himself, the other is trembling, I don’t know whether to be uneasy or to laugh. And where in the world is my Beta who has yet to show his face?
“Why are you here on my land? What do you want…” I begin but I was soon cut off by scream.
My heart stops as my blood runs cold for the second time that evening, I know that scream, it’s Angel’s scream. I turn to Jordan “Take them to the dungeons.” As soon as that leaves my mouth I turn and shift as I run towards my mate. Horrified to find out why she was screaming.
I was there within 5 minutes, and when I got there I figured out why my Beta wasn’t with me.
“Surprised?” Alex called to me, my mate unconscious at his feet, and bleeding.
“What did you do to her?” I yelled, worry and dread filling body.
Alex gave me a wicked smile, “Oh, don’t worry she will be fine, I can’t say that much about your new pup though.”
“Why? Why are you doing this?” I question him, as realization dawns on me, “You, you are the reason the rogues are here. But why? Why hurt my family, or the pack? What have any of use done to you?”
Alex’s smile slow turns to a frown, “Why? Do you really not know?” he puffed out, “No, I guess you wouldn’t, I will give you four years to ponder why. Oh, and whether you figure it out or not, your head is mine.” With those final words he shifted and turned away, running to his life as a rogue. His mate right behind him with their pup.
**End Flashback**
I shift back to my human form as I fall to my knees, crying from the loss of my new pup, my beautiful baby boy, and for the pain of my mate. But quickly my tears run dry as hears the cry of a baby.
