Maximus- CeCe will definitely try to corrupt Dalia. But my girl is strong as hell. I mean... ‘…well, it’s well known…’ Beast begins, but I block him. ‘You do know I can surpass your block if I want to?’ He says just because he can. Beast is other worldly and has powers and abilities above a standard animal within. There have been times in our life that I have given all control and let him roam the earth as he saw fit. I was a shell of the man I am now. But he carried us when I couldn’t. ‘Yes Beast, I’m well aware of your power.’ I mind-link him back with a smirk. ‘Good. Carry on.’ He puts the wall back up as I chuckle. I wouldn’t want to roam this earth with anyone but him. Maybe another certain female, but I won’t speak on that. She is one of the strongest women I have ever met. She just needs to figure out how to reach her full potential. Then this world better watch out. We need to figure out her problem before Ding-Dong arrives, trying to interfere with us. I don’t like him, and I don’t trust him. Period. I gladly called him in for training so he would get off the damn phone with her. I mean, he went to a s*x club with her clone and didn’t even notice? He is so not deserving of her. I walk into Alpha Ronan’s office. The guys are in there all smiling and laughing. “Maximus! It’s good to see you, man.” Beta Colton says. “Thanks, so you have twins on the way, huh?” I smile at their second pregnancy. They already have a little boy who is about three, maybe. “Whatever Emerson wants.” Colton smiles, and I love how in love they are. “I thought we would see you smack dead between your women who are about to kill each other.” Delta Parrish smirks. “Or any of his other women. I mean, the man is barely here but is already a legend.” Gamma Lee teases as the guys laugh. “If you guys are done?” I raise an eyebrow as I sit in one of the large leather chairs in Ronan’s office. I chuckle along with them. “I am here to protect Dalia per the Queen. That is all.” “So, you mean to tell me you haven’t come close to crossing your business and pleasure line?” Lee asks. He has the ability to sense connections. He is asking questions that, due to his gifts, he probably already knows. I swear sometimes I really hate coming to this pack full of people with hidden gifts like myself. I’m lying because I feel most at home when I am here. That is why no matter where I am sent on missions, I always return here. They have offered me a place here. As a member of this pack. I’m over four hundred years old. I will outlive everyone here. I have no desire to sit here and remain while the great grandchildren of Alpha Ronan run the pack. It is the reason why I keep moving, because that way I don’t have to make real connections. But this damn pack has gotten under my skin and became a family for me. I connect with the Luna here. She is an Omni-Wolf and most powerful being. She has sacred blood that wars have been fought over. Her blood heals you and makes you immortal also. She also has a lot of gifts like I do. Ever changing. Ever shifting. Right now, though, my mission is to keep Dalia safe while this pack and its elders try and figure out what she is. Why was she hidden from her gift and never talked about it. “Enough with the s**t talking. Have you found any information on what is going on with Dalia, Lee?” Ronan asks, and they get all my attention. “Nothing on her. It seems her mother doesn’t exist. Like she was hidden so well that I have come to dead ends on who she was.” Lee looks at his laptop. “But I did find some stories of a mythical being. I need to do more research and see if it links up with her skills. They are outside now sparring. I frown, thinking of her fighting. I know she is a kick ass warrior, but I also know Brooklyn has a chip on her shoulder. I suddenly feel a piercing pain in my torso. I grip my chest, wincing in pain. ‘You felt that, right?’ Beast asks me already, knowing the answer. “Fuck.” I grunt standing as the pain radiates like a f*****g gong. I know Brooklyn’s power. I start for the door. ‘Yes. Don’t say a damn thing.’ I grunt via mind-link to Beast. “Maximus?” Ronan asks with a look of concern. “She’s hurt.” Is all I can muster as I sprint for the training field. I feel the men moving behind me. We make it outside and I push harder to get to her. One day we have been here and I’ve already failed her. I pass the gardens as the training field comes into view. There is a group of people surrounding something. I am sure it is them. I push my way through the crowd. Or really one growl from Beast and they part like the red sea. We make it to the front and that is where I see her. Straddling her as she punches her face repeatedly. Her eyes glowing a golden color. CeCe stands next to me as I’m speechless. Dalia has rendered Brooklyn unconscious. I see Colton and Lee start to walk out to them. Beast emits a growl so feral everyone stops. CeCe touches my arm. I look down to see them glowing a warm golden color. She nods for me to get her. “Get your girl before she kills that poor Brooklyn.” She whispers and I don’t even correct her. I’m naturally drawn to be near her. I reach her and grab her around her waist. She instantly stops. Her breathing ragged but her body seems to melt into my chest. I stand her up and she sways. “Catch her!” Luna Briar yells and I’ve got her. I scoop her in my arms as her eyes roll to the back of her head. “Get her to the hospital. We will meet you there.” I hear CeCe say and I’m already sprinting there. I make it there in record time and I burst into the E.R. Dr. Yara runs up with a team of nurses and a gurney. I place her down and when a male nurse tries to secure her, I growl. He steps back with his hands raised. “We got it Peter, go switch with Samantha.” Dr. Yara instructs and I feel Beast calm just a bit. I help push her back as we get to the double doors and they try and stop me. “We have her. She will be fine.” Dr. Yara tells me and I’m about to push on. Then I feel Ronan next to me. Colton on the other side. They could probably combined hold me for a bit. Maybe. “She will be fine. As soon as you can go back you will. I promise to come get you myself.” Dr. Yara tells me. I see Ronan nod to go ahead while I fight Beast for control. My hands radiate with anger. “I need to be briefed on what the hell happened. I’m responsible for her and she is already in the hospital.” I demand through gritted teeth. I am seething right now and I need someone to blame but all I feel is self blame. If I was by her side I could have stopped her from pushing herself too far too fast. Lee walks up with a tablet and replays the fight. It started off fine. They both kept going back and forth with legal punches. Then at some point Dalia got a good punch in and then Brooklyn used her powers and blasted Dalia in the stomach. “That was the pain I felt.” I grunt as Ronan looks at me. ‘You felt her pain?’ He mind-links me. I exhale thinking out loud. ‘Don’t say it. Then it’s real.’ I mind-link him back. ‘You know that’s not how it works.’ Ronan replies with a small smile. “For me it has to. I won’t do that to her. I can’t watch her grow old and then I’m still the same. I won’t do that to her. It’s not fair. She deserves better than me and that damn ding doing.” “Who is a Ding Dong?” Ronan asks. “Her boyfriend.” Luna Briar adds as she walks up. “Brooklyn is fine by the way. A slight concussion but she will recover. They will keep her overnight.” “Dalia has a boyfriend?” Ronan repeats. “What? A boyfriend? How is that…oh she doesn’t know.” Parrish joins in the conversation. “Know what?” Malani asks. “You know, that Maximus is… you know!” Parrish hints to her. Her eyes go big. “Really! Oh, that is so beautiful! I’m so happy…” I raise a hand stopping her. “There is nothing to thank. I am only here to help her get her powers and that is it. Then I’m back out on missions for a while.” “Wait, how are you going against the moon goddess?” Emerson questions rubbing her slightly visible stomach carrying twins. “Easy, just like I said.” I nod and before they can continue deciding my life for me. “This is my life and my decision. I am asking none of you to inform Dalia. She should only be focused on her training and breaking the spell. I am going to go check on Brooklyn while they get Dalia ready for me to go back.” No one says a word as I walk away. I can hear all of their conversations though. Most saying I’m crazy for what I’m doing. How I’ll regret it. Or how I will change my mind. I’m four hundred years into this. I’m not changing my mind. I exhale roughly and block the mind-links that allow them into my brain. I look up at the door where Brooklyn is resting. I knock and stick my head in. “Are you decent?” I ask with my eyes closed as I enter the room. “Don’t think it really matters since you have seen me naked.” Brooklyn says and I can hear her smirk. “Okay I’m opening my eyes.” I peak between my fingers and see her laying in her hospital bed. “Hi.” “Hi, how is your day going? Mine, not so well.” Brooklyn smiles. “How are you feeling?” I ask, walking to take the seat next to her bed. “Like I got my ass kicked by the next f*****g Omni-Wolf.” She chuckles. “Brooklyn, honestly what the hell were you thinking? She is a f*****g rare hidden species for a reason.” I tell her half joking. Brooklyn laughs. “I know! I know! Part of me wanted to push her to get her to come into her wolf. Then I remembered how you looked at her. I got jealous and here I am. I owe her an apology.” She says with remorse. “You need to tell her about you. Your past. Because you Maximus Alexander Vasilakis deserve to be loved.
