alpha all day

Tyler's POV My alarm clock rang and I refused to get up. I had had the most perfect dream and I did not want it to end. As I laid there replaying everything in my mind I couldn't help but wish for it to be real. My Mae was mine, she was safe and she was mine. When my phone started ringing tho I'm force back to reality. Shes not here. No one has seem or heard from her in four years, not since the day of the Sadee Hawkins Dance. She left town and not a day goes by that I don't miss her. I pick up my phone to check the status reports from the over night patrols. Two new rogue sightings, An invite from The Blood Moon Pack to their annual wolf warrior games of the decade, and 3 missed phone calls. Justin, Justin, and Justin. Man how I love my dream version of him where he is just a patrol trainer and not my beta. He was less needy in my dreams. As I get dress for the day I feel as tho something is off I can place my finger on it but I just dont feel 100%. Which is always concerning for a wolf since we don't get sick, the only time we don't feel right is normally when we are healing from a fight but this feeling is different. I feel a tug on my wolf like he's being distant. I know he's getting restless. Its been four years and we still havent found our mate. Wolves aren't ment to be alone, and if an alpha doesnt find his mate after five years he often is forced to step down. They sometime lose the ability to shift or mindlink their pack, some have reported depletion in their healing abilities, other actually catch colds like humans do, and some even go crazy. Fear sets in that this feeling may be the start of the end of my reign. I shake the feeling off and head to my office for my morning meetings with my team. As I enter the room they are all already there waiting for me. Justin is stretched out along the couch tossing a mini basketball up in the air. He keeps me on my toes and makes sure I dont lose track of meetings and other planned events. Since I don't have a luna he has taken on some of those tasks to help things run smoothly. His shaggy blonde hair is slicked back and even in his sweats he has a look of professionalism that can't be replicated. As I head to my chair at the desk he sits up and flings the ball at my head. I catch it and toss it to the grown. "Finally your here we can get started." "Pipe down Justin our meeting starts at eight every day and it's still five til what gots you in such a rush." "Well I'm starving for one and two the boys and I are going to set up the warrior games training facilities today and I can't wait to start showing all these boys up." "You wish, last time we had these you barely could even hit a single target," Michael my gamma pointed out. He comes from a long line of gammas. His dad was my dads gamma, his grandfathers my grandfathers and so on and so forth. Hes a little too matter afact about things but he means well. His tatoo'd chocolate skin, facial peircings and dread locks make him appear out of place in a professional gathering but once he opens his mouth no one can argue with him. "We were twelve Mike what do you expect. I don't remember you doing any better. did they even let you participate?" Logan my Patrol leader spoke up defending Justin not that he needed it. Logan is like the little brother of the group. Hes always getting himself into trouble with the ladies and one of us always has to bail him out. Most wolves wait to meet their mates but as we like to say "some got a little more human in us" and like to jump between she-wolf to she-wolf or even the odd human or two. And logan is one of those wolves. He often tries to get me to go down to the bars and clubs in town since I'm the only one left beside him without a mate but it's just not my scene. Sure my mate may show up there but I'd like to think it's not the type of place she'd be either. Getting their focus back I chime in, "Alright knock it off all of you. Justin project status updates" "The new middle school is set to break ground at the end of the month. Our Cyber-tech security office in town had a great opening month with 74 new clients enrolled and 43 in cue for quotes and presentations. The plant nursey is hosting its 5th annual gardening event next staturday which you will be expected to attend to judge the bouquet arrangement contest. and-" "how did I get roped into that" "Mrs Frye says you have not made it to a single one of her events since you took over alpha amd if she doesn't see you this year she would have the packhouse grounds unearthed and our gardeners reassigned." "So you just volunteered me for the lamest contest ever" "Uh ya have you talked to Mrs Frye, shes one scary woman. Id rather deal with your mom again after we ate all the treats for the valentines toddler party then I would Mrs. Frye." Just the mention of the valentines debockle made me quiver "I guess I'll be there but if I'm going so are all of you. we'll show everyone that our pack leaders care about everyone in the pack not just those with specific skills." They all groan at that but I Ignore them. "Michael report" "population Is growing and we'll need to expand residentals in the next five years to keep up with the generational growths. many of our single living houses are occupied and our family homes are too small to keep up with the growing family sizes. "plan with Justin to build 20 more large family homes. well reassess the single housing after the warrior games next month. we all know mates are found at these events and we won't know how many houses will free up afterwards." "Yes alpha" "Logan that just leaves you" "Our latest class of graduates from the academy are excelling well. They will begin rotating in this week on regular patrol shifts. The cyber tech systems have all been upgraded and downloaded to theses divices here. Each of you have a training course to view to learn how to operate the systems. The four of us will have tablet as well as the president of the company and our packs ground tech. theses are password and iris protected so be sure to find me after you complete your course to get your scans linked up." "Alright sounds good. Everything seems to be running smooth and is on scheduled. Does anyone have anything else to add or address?... No Logan I will not go to the bar with you." Logan didn't even get his hand in the air before I responded. I don't even need to be able to read his mine to know that question is coming every Friday morning meeting. "Hey I actually had something else to says" "fine go ahead" "well now you put me on the spot I can't remember" "mmhmm if theres nothing else This meeting is adjurned I'll see you all at the Games sign up this Evening." With that the meeting ended and the boys and I all filed out of the room and down the stairs to the dining room where the pack warriors and their families were all eating breakfast. I know some packs don't allow pack members within the pack house without an appointment but one of the great Ideas that came from Mae when we were young was having a large family style breakfast for the whole pack. And as one of my first acts as alpha I made it happen. We had to remodel and put an add-on to the east side of the building but seeing everyone one gather together makes it worth it. It helps me keep perspective especially on days where I dream about Mae. I grabbed a plate and loadeded it full of my normal proteins and hashbrowns and joined the pups at their table. I Make it a point to rotate to a new table each day to give my pack face time with me but today I just can deal with petty dramas. So I chose the young bloods who only care about video games and popculture hoping to be able to turn off my alpha for one meal. As fate would have it today the kids all wanted to complain. Their parents all told them about the warrior games and they wanted a chance to compete too. regulations say you must be at least twelve to participate in the skill competitions and eighteen for any that may require our unique wolf abilities like running or fighting. I felt sorry for them. I know how they felt. My birthday fell two weeks after the last decade games so I couldnt particpate. While all my friend got to I had to sit in the stands and watch from the sidelines. Remembering that feeling a thought came to mind. What if we made an all ages event for anyone to join? I'll have to get Justin on that later. I finish my plate and head down to the training ground my role as alpha continues as I get to break in the new recruits from the academy. My favorite way to clear my head and let off some steam. This is going to be fun.
