lost the scent

We take the hour drive into town and stop at a barn shaped building. It simple but has a large patio on three side of it filled with humans and supernaturals mingling. String light criss cross from the roof to the edges of the patio providing soft lighting bright enough for humans to see well but almost too bright for my wolf vision. Loud country music can be heard coming from inside and I turn to Logan and raise an eyebrow.

"It's your first time. I figured we start mellow and work your way up to the good stuff"

"How can you stand the lighting, my eyes hurt?" I say squiting and raising a hand to block out the glare.

"It's better inside just stay off the patio, that's where all the couples hang out anyways."

I nod and we head in.

The bouncer at the door is one of my pack members he lets Logan go straight in but asks for my eye ID. My eyes go wide not carrying it with me and logan laughs before mindlinking the guy who I am. He bares his neck appologeticly and I link him to not tell anyone he saw me.

I then decide to link my beta and gamma that we are here and forbid them from joining us. They are to watch the pack house and man the patrols tonight. I get two groans and a hundred questions but I shut them off.

Logan had a huge smile on his face and I just shake my head. "Tonight I am just a guy in the bar got it. No picking up woman by using my status."

"Whatever you say boss, you wanna grab some drinks? I'm not really looking to pick anyone up tonight anyways, Just here to help a friend."

We grab a booth on the balcony overlooking the dance floor. I watch as the scene unfolds below us. People of all ages, sizes and species mixed together, albeit the human have no clue we exist, the view is enough to make one think. What could be possible if the wars between packs and vampires, hunters, and other creatures just didn't exist and we could all live together like this, not in hiding. Just be one.

"Never gonna happen idiot." Rider chimes in.

"Either be nice or I'll block you out again."

"Whatever I just perked up to remind you you're still delusionsal I'll go back to sleep now, O and I don't care how much you drink but if you even think about kissing anyone other than our luna I will reveal our kind to all the humans down their and you will have the entire wolf nation at your door prepared for war got it."

"Dude chill I'm not here for that."

"You're not but they clearly are"

I look around the blacony and every set of human female eye are on us.

"Logan is there somewhere else we can go where we won't be a spectacle?" I ask.

"Nope you're the new sexy wolf in the human den they will gawk at you no matter where we sit. Give it ten minutes they will move on as long as you pay them zero attention."

I raise an eyebrow at him

"You do this every week?"

"No I quit getting the large crowds of gawking eyes years ago Now it's just a few chicks each night normally ones who recently turned drinking age."

I nod and a waitress approached us.

"Can I get you gentlemen anything to drink tonight? We got specials on our local drafts and premium cocktails are half price."

Logan speaks before I have a chance. "well take 10 shots of tequila and 2 pitchers of beer, locals fine." She nods "I'm heidi by the way I'll be right back with that for you boys" she winks at me and rushes off to the bar below.

"She a wild one but a little possessive don't dabble with that one man. we don't s**t where we drink, at least not with the staff, but go ahead a flirt a little I'm paying tonight and any discount you can squeeze my way will be appreciated"

I laugh at that "I think I pay you well enough you don't need my help to reduce your cost. I'm not flirting with anyone."

"Fair enough."

Heidi returns with our drinks and we slam the shots back to back each downing five. It burns a little I've never been a big drinker but we're not Alpha tonight so a little buzz shouldn't hurt. As werewolfs it taked alot for us to even feel the effects so I know we'll be fine.

Logan slams his last shot before speaking, "Alright spill man what is going on with you?"

I dont say anything at first. Playing it cool like theres nothing going on.

"Bro you can't fool me," he says, "I may have been gone for a decade but I still know you. Even when you were a kid you would obcess over things and shut down. Your skills would be faulty from all your stressing so spill. Is it all really stemming from some chick you ran off in high school?"

"First off I didn't run her off, Jessica, Justins mate did. Secondly no it's not all because of her. Yea, maybe I thing about her a little too much and wonder where she is now, but it's not about her."

"Then what is it dude."

I go on to tell him all about theses weird feeling I've been having and my hands cramping. and until night how Riders ignoring me lead me to believe more into the Alphas curse then I probably should have.

"Rider said to just let s**t be and maybe he's right. If it wasn't for the odd feelings I wouldn't be so concerned but how do you just ignore feeling like your losing a part of you."

"well he's right, you can't stop fate but i get it. Its hard to focus when theres a nagging force poking at you. That's tough man. Do the guys know?"

"Justin suspects I'm sure, Mike hasn't lead on to make me believe so as of yet. I don't know if I should tell them or wait til things potentially get worse."

"Right now it's just a feeling, so I think we are fine keeping it between us but if it becomes anything more, pain during shifting, slowing of wolf traits, anything that could weaken your alpha claim, we should tell them."

"You're right I guess. I just need to figure out how to focus and be alert with myself without being paranoid to a failing fault."

Just then I picked up a faint scent. Its oddly familar but not at the same time. Its of lilies and something else I can put my finger on it. I lean out over the balcony and inhale deeply seeing if I can pick up where its coming from. The double swinging doors from the kitchen flap open and I pick it up again. Its something sweet mixed in too. Rider yells in my mind "SHES HERE!"

"Who?"

"MATE!"

My heart starts racing and a get a cold sweat creeping over me, we have a MATE!

Logan picks up my agitation and looks out into the crowd

"Whats up man? Your alpha aroura is up."

he saids bending his neck slightly.

I turn it down not wanting to give away my position to the other wolves in the room.

"She's here"

"who is"

"Our Mate, rider says our mate is here and she's behind those doors."

I turn struggling out of the booth heading to the stairs quickly when Logan grabs my arm.

"Hold up man, you can't just storm the kitchen, come with me I know the owner I'll have him give you a tour, well say it's for a business expansion concept and I'll get you access to her, Our luna is coming home. But calm down we dont want you scaring her off with your over excitment." He grins at me and I grin back but panic at the same time. Ive waited for so long and shes been here this whole time, the one place I've refused to go.

Logan leads us down to the bar and pulls aside a man name Sid. They talk for a few minutes and I keep my eyes on the door hoping to catch a glimpse in the back.

After what felt like forever Sid finally agreed to give a tour.

We enter the double doors and the trail is faint Sid leads us to the walkin freezers and fridge and then around to the chef stations, prep areas and sinks. I can tell the scent is coming from a door way and I ask "Whats through there?"

"That the employee enterance nothing but a parking lot and trash." Sid says

"You mind? Id like to get a full picture of all the buisness needs even down to parking, In fact I'll just walk the lot and come back in through the front if thats ok with you?"

"Sure no problem, any other questions before you head out there?"

"Not at this time, but I know where to find you, thank you."

I can't rush out the door fast enough but I maintain a normal human speed and exit casually. Once outside The scent picks up. I follow it through the lot to the back and see a car pulling out. It passes in front of me and out of the lot. As it does The scent flys pass me. I can't run after her with all these humans around. I memorize the license plate. BY3620.

She was here and I just missed her... I missed my luna...
