CHAPTER THREE.

"Don't be so worried, you are going to look amazing. I've got skills. I have told you this". Layla started trying to make me laugh while I was panicking about the ball. "We did all the important stuff on Thursday. All you need to worry about now is sitting in that chair and letting me do your make-up." Layla giggled as she plodded me back down on my dressing table chair. "I don't know if I want to go." I looked up at her. "You have to, everyone that lives in the packhouse has to. Alpha Max is the one throwing the ball." She explained as she began setting aside my hair to apply make-up to my face. "Yeah, I know. I'm just so nervous" I said as I tilted and posed my head wherever she wanted it to be. "Yeah, I know. Don't worry. I'm sure everything is going to be fine. You could even meet your mate". She smiled brightly at me. “I'm nervous about that too. Unc- Alpha Max explained that to me not long ago. I'm not sure if I want to meet my mate yet.” "What? Why? Mates are the best thing in the world! They are literally made by the moon goddess for you! Honestly, finding your mate is like completing yourself and then going on a journey discovering each other. It's icing on a cake!" She said enthusiastically. "Really? They can't be that great, surely? I looked at her, suspiciously, she was obviously exaggerating. "No, really! They are the best thing to ever happen to someone. That's why most mateless wolves are frowned upon. In some people's opinions, if you don't have a mate by the time you're thirty, then you're deemed un-worthy and people speculate that you aren't good enough for a mate" Layla became serious. "Wow. But what i***t would think that? My Uncle Max is twenty-eight and he still doesn't have a mate." I looked at her curiously. "That's why he's throwing the ball. Hosting this Alpha ball isn't a good thing. Other Alpha's are checking him out, making sure he's worthy and seeing if he's running the pack right... There are Alpha rules that not even I know about. But Alpha Max needs to find his mate soon or he might not be our Alpha for long." Layla explained. "Oh, my goodness. That's disgusting. Alpha Max is the nicest person I've ever met. Look at everything that happened to me and he still took me in. I bet he would have done it even if I wasn't his niece." I said. "I completely agree," Layla smiled as she carried on doing my make-up and then doing my hair. When Layla was done, she made me pose in front of the mirror. She was honestly so much fun. I was wearing a long v-neck opened back ruby red dress. I had a gold diamond encrusted ruby necklace with matching rings and earrings. I wasn't wearing heels because I didn't like the way my scars showed in them. Instead, I wore some trainers but no-one would notice because my dress was so long. I was ready, I walked down the marble staircase and to the ball room. It was already packed with people I hadn't seen before and, to be honest, I wasn't sure who was in my pack and who wasn't. There were a lot of pretty girls there, and handsome men too. I found my uncle at the bar sipping his whiskey. He smiled at me and waved me over. "You certainly look amazing." He said. "Thank you, tell Layla, she was absolutely amazing. She is the nicest girl I've met." I smiled at him and he grinned. "I will be sure to" he said as he told the bartender to make me a drink, and he fetched me a coke. We talked about all sorts until he was told he needed to go for a meeting with a couple of other Alpha's. I could see the rage building up in his face. He was practically turning red. "Aira. Stay here. I will be as quick as I can." He told me as he strutted off towards his office. My Uncle was called away and I was left in this huge ball room by myself. I slowly and awkwardly started sipping my drink when a strong smell smacked me in the face. It was a musky pine wood smell, and it was incredible, intoxicating. My body urged me to follow it. I searched the room to find the source but I couldn't pin point it. My chest suddenly became tight and my throat swelled up, My body became hot and sweat poured from my head and my palms. I needed air. I walked inches away towards the back doors of the ballroom that led to the garden and crashed into what I thought was a wall and was knocked on my ass. A man turned around. He had beautiful jet black hair, deep dark blue and mysterious eyes. His jaw was chiseled to a point. Honestly, someone sculpted this man to perfection and he was huge. I could see the abs poking out of his suit and his biceps pulsating under his sleeves. He was a lot taller than me. He must have been over six feet. "I'm so sorry, Sir." I told him, lifting myself off the ground and brushing myself off. "YOU," He growled at me. I think I might have ticked him off. "I'm sorry, it was an accident, I don't feel well" I explained as I saw his eyes switch from blue to red. The smell became more intense and I didn't want to take my eyes off of him. I was in awe looking at this god before me. I could feel my cheeks starting to burn up just looking him. "What are you doing here?" He asked me, his tone was very annoyed. "I needed air" I told him, looking at my feet. His body became dominant and I wanted to melt under him. I was too scared to look deep into his eyes in case he consumed me. He became cold, which only attracted me more. The mysteriousness that surrounded him intrigued me. "I thought you were dead!" He almost yelled at me in his growl. He was intimidating. His aura emanated dominance. "I-I-I'm the only one that surv-survived" I said, this man was something else. He now became so cold. His tone of voice shook fear into me and I wanted to run away from him as quickly as possible, but my body was unable to move. Moments ago, I felt relaxed and comfortable but right now, for some strange reason, I wanted to cry. He grabbed my arm and shocks of electricity danced on the spot he touched. I gasped as he pulled me closer and gripped my hair, making me look at him dead in the eyes. His eyes were back to that deep blue. I felt a sensation dribble down my legs as I fought hard not to cry, but yet I wanted him to pull me closer. He breathed strongly through his nose, taking in a deep breath, and his eyes once again danced in between colours. "Wha-at are you doi-ng?" I stuttered, trying to break his hold, but my eyes stuck to his like glue. He ignored me and my squirming and just stared at me intently. After a couple of minutes, I had had enough of his look. "Get off me!" I yelled at him, grabbing his hand with both my hands trying to pry his grip off of my hair. I ignored the sparks that vibrated through the touch, even though my body wanted to touch his. A few seconds later, he looked me up and down and aggressively shoved me away from him. I watched him walking away without so much as a look back, shaking his head as he did so. After realizing I was standing outside on my own shaking and tears streaming down my face for what felt like forever, I walked inside to find my uncle and ask him what the hell had happened. I searched everywhere and when I couldn't find him I decided to go back to my room. Trying to understand the events that have just happened. On my way, I found Layla and begged her to come with me. She noticed I was a mess. I was shaking, my adrenaline was still high. At this very moment, I wish I had smacked him. "It sounds like you met your mate, but I don't know why he didn't take you with him, or tell the Alpha you were mated. I'm confused." Layla said and I laughed. Of course, she was confused, so was I. When he touched me it felt amazing, like we belonged together. I wanted to hold him, to kiss him. My underwear became soaked when he looked me in my eyes, but at the very same time he made me nervous and he made me want to cry, as if somehow he did me wrong or treated me wrong, like he hurt my feelings and my body knew it and I didn't. Like I needed his approval but failed, and I hated that I felt like that. I didn't understand why I felt like that. I was so attracted to this man. My body craved him. "I think this 'moon goddess' of yours made a mistake. We clearly weren't meant for each other. He wanted to kill me!" I told Layla seriously. "The moon goddess never makes mistakes. He might already have a girlfriend. Something might have happened. Either way, I'll tell your uncle. Maybe he knows who he is and we can find him" Layla smiled at me as she left. I jumped into the bath. I was exhausted and needed to change out of those clothes that now seemed heavy. I needed to wash this make-up off, which is now ruined. I changed into short pyjama shorts and a vest top, fell onto my bed that felt like clouds and stared at the ceiling. The Musky Pine wood smell filled my nostrils once again. My heart started beating rapidly, My body became hot, my face was flushed, my throat swelled up. I tried my best to ignore it, no matter how much my body wanted to follow it. I looked at the clock on my wall and it was only twelve fifteen. I could still hear the party going on downstairs. I walked out on to my balcony and breathed in the night air. I looked down and saw him staring up at me. I stared into his deep blue eyes. How does he even know? My gaze couldn't leave him. He was absolutely stunning. I could still feel his aroma from this distance. I sighed to myself, imagining what it would be like being with him. His body against mine, just thinking about it made me feel funny. I kept my gaze on his as I watched him, his eyes danced between blue and red. What was he doing when he did that? I felt a hand grab me and I tried to turn around to see who it was before a cloth covered my mouth and nose. I tried to bite, I tried to fight. It was no use. All the fighting made me sleepy and everything faded to black.
