Gary Sands received a call on his police radio while he was out on patrol. He was asked to go by the office, and talk to the lady in charge of the police fund for families, when he finished his shift.
Gary Sands was smiling ear to ear when he later left the office and headed home. He went into his home and, finding his wife in the kitchen, picked her up and swung her around before hugging her tightly.
Mary hugged him back and smiled at how excited he was.
“What has happened?” she asked.
“The police fund has paid Laura’s medical bills and given me this check for $5000 for future expenses,” said Gary.
Mary looked at the check with disbelief.
“Wow,” she said. “How could they afford to do this?”
