Even when Vanessa took her prescription from her doctor, the pain in her head came back as she walked toward the training ground. She tried her best to ignore it since she just took one pill of her pain reliever but it was getting more painful as she set foot on the said training ground. Lyca noticed it and wanted to go to where Vanessa was standing but Joanna suddenly stopped her. Lyca looked confused but when she saw how serious her partner was, she began to look around the training ground but there was nothing. She wanted to ask Joanna but when she felt the grip from her suddenly tightened and began to shiver as well, Lyca finally understood why she was acting like that. Lyca looked back at Vanessa who was trying her best to control the pain in her head but there was nothing she could do until she screamed a certain name that echoed throughout the training ground.
“ARIAN!” Vanessa’s voice echoed the entire training ground before her left eye began to bleed as her heart tightened like it had a deep hole in it and her soul was shattered. She was crying as her knees weakened which made her collapse on the ground.
‘Mon bien-aime.’
Vanessa’s crying immediately turned into sob before she looked around where it was coming. She knew to her heart who was it but her mind couldn’t keep up because of the headaches.
“Who are you? Why do you keep calling me ‘my beloved’? Please tell me...it hurts...my head...my heart…” Vanessa pleaded like she never did before. She felt like she was a child once again and that time, the only thing that could calm her down was her - the lady in the shadow. But the eagerness of knowing who lies behind the shadow made everything around her blurry and painful.
Vanessa covered her face as kept crying because even though she wanted to know who it was, she could since whoever that lady was, didn’t want to be known by her. It hurts her to the core for some reason she couldn't understand really well though part of her might know the answer already. It was just afraid of knowing the truth behind those achings that she’s feeling toward the lady in the shadow.
‘Ne pleure pas maintenant ma bien-aimée. Comme je t'ai toujours dit que je suis toujours avec toi. Jamais quitté. Juste dans l'ombre jusqu'au bon moment pour se revoir.’
“Now you’re saying: ‘Don’t cry now my beloved. Like I always told you I’m always with you. Never left. Just in the shadow until the right time to meet again’.” Vanessa sarcastically translated what the voice that kept echoing throughout the training ground.
“Again?! When was that time? I need you now! There’s something wrong in me...and my head couldn’t keep up and my heart has a hole and my soul was shattered...why I’m still alive when I should have been dead...” Vanessa answered in such pain in her heart and in her head as she kept crying on the ground. She was dwelling too much in her pain which made her mind couldn’t keep up since she always overthink things like what she’s going through and the only one kept sane was the lady in the shadow.
“Please...mon amour...my love...if you were my love and I’m your beloved...just please...this time around...please...ne te cache pas a moi...don’t hide yourself to me...please…” Vanessa pleaded weakly in some French language as she also translated them along in the way of her deliberation but everything in her was leaving her consciousness.
“Dammit!” the voice of a lady around the training ground made the whole training facility shaken up as the dark smoke began to swirl violently around Vanessa.
“You have to trust me, my beloved.” The voice kept saying to Vanessa who was slowly losing her consciousness but she managed to get a glimpse of the dark smoke finally forming into a figure of a lady.
The lady has a black hood and she noticed the glowing sun-like eyes burning through Vanessa’s soul, making her heartbeat like it was its first time and the pain in her head finally subsided as she felt the arms of this hooded lady wrapped around her body. It was like giving her a life that she never thought she’ll have.
“D-don’t go t-this time…” Vanessa managed to say before she collapsed on the hooded lady’s arms.
“I never left and never will.” The hooded lady managed to answer but Vanessa didn’t catch that aside from a coughing noise coming from Lyca who was smirking at them.
“Don’t start, Lyc.” The hooded lady immediately warned Lyca since she already knew that she’s going to teased her. The hooded lady formed was just a dark smoke with glowing amber like a sun on its right eye which made it more like a ghost than having human flesh.
“Not saying anything but since when did you find your mate?” Lyca asked while smiling knowingly as they followed the hooded lady move like a ghost back inside the gym and let Vanessa’s unconscious body rest there for a while.
“Since the last time I met her parents.” She answered and not looking back at them.
“When?” Joanna asked her this time which made the hooded lady look at her.
“14 years ago.” She flatly answered before watching Vanessa’s sleeping face and she even tried to move some hair strands away from its face.
“So you’ve been eyeing her for quite some time already…” Lyca said with her teasing voice while nodding off like she was thinking on how to tease the hooded lady. But before she could form anything to say, Joanna spoke.
“Wait, who’s her parents anyway? We’ve known her father was a police officer like her but seriously, Queen, tells us.” Joanna wondered as the hooded lady which she just called Queen, put Vanessa’s over her lap before looking at them.
“Her mother was a halfling that came from my land and mated to a human police which was her father. I just let her be with him when she fully knew how to control her thirst but one night I had the urge to check on her. I went to their house and she introduced me to her mate. I knew then that her mate knew something about us existence and that’s because of his bestfriend which was your father, Lyc. From then, I knew she'd be in good hands but when I was about to leave, my feet were rooted on the ground which confused them. Then we heard some crying child. The tree of us immediately went to the room where it was coming from. I don’t know what came into me when I rushed and took the little girl into my arms as I cooed her. She immediately stopped crying then I collapsed on the little girl's bed, crying. Her mother, Rea Romano Santos knew what just happened and explained to her husband why I am crying while my eyes fixed only to their daughter.” The hooded lady called Queen began to explain to them by telling a little story on how she met Vanessa.
“So, ever since that night, you never left her side?” Lyca asked as she sat down next to Vanessa’s sleeping body.
“Not just her side but their side. I’ve been watching their family in the shadows and keeping her safe at all cost which her husband was thankful for. But something was brewing in the cornfield boundary which I warned them about because that was the only time that I couldn't watch them entirely. I have to do what a queen should be doing in her land and its people. But I was too late to reach them when I heard Rea’s thought to save her daughter. Like I promised to her, I did it and our bond was getting stronger each passing year but I just can’t tell or show her our world.” She answered as she explained as well as she released a deep sigh.
“But it's different now, Queen. She’s with us and she’ll learn them for sure.” Joanna assured as she sat next to Lyca.
“I know. I hope when she does, she already accepts it. She’ll be my queen one day.” She said in her hopeful tone as she caressed Vanessa’s face.
“Damn! I never thought the only person who’ll complete our team was also a queen.” Lyca commented as she chuckled but Joanna nudged her sides.
“Soon to be queen, Lyc.” Joanna corrected her partner.
“But we can’t be lazy around. I have to find the culprit that makes everything in both realms imbalance.” She told them which made both of them smile at the called Queen.
“We’ll find it like we promise to you that’s why this team was made off.” Joanna assured her as they all noticed the sudden movement from Vanessa. She stretched her body before moving around to her side and embraced the Queen's waist.
“Mon bien-aime...my beloved…I’m called Queen at Death Elite Force but you could call me…” The hooded lady called Queen was about to introduce her real name and not just her code when Vanessa mumbled something that the three of them heard clearly.
“Arian.” Vanessa mumbled like she heard what she was saying to her. It made her right eye teared up and fell down on Vanessa’s cheek.
