Chapter 6

“Does it matter? I’m home now.”  “Whatever. Did you have a good time?”  “Yeah I did.” And that was the honest truth. I had a great time.  “Good. Because your birthday is over and we have something we have to deal with.”  “What happened?”  “Mark found his mate.”  “Oh that’s right. Is she nice? What’s her name? I bet they are locked away in his room right now or maybe her place. What pack is she from?” I spewed out, cutting her off. “She…We don’t know.”  “What? What do you mean you don’t know?”  “She ran from him. She said she was sorry and just left.”  “F&ck! Where is he?”  “The gym. He hasn’t talked to anybody since it happened. I’m not sure if he even slept.”  I’ve never dressed faster in my life. Mark was my best friend next to my sister and since she found her mate, most of my time was spent with Mark. I needed to make sure he was OK. Running through the house, I made my way to the gym. Punching away at a heavy bag was Mark. Two destroyed heavy bags were laid on the floor. “Hey! You know those things don’t grow on trees?” I knew it was cheesy but I was hoping to at least get an eye roll. But he only stopped briefly and grunted before punching the bag again.  “Mark..Please talk to me.”  “There is nothing to talk about Katrina.”  I couldn’t help but wince at the way he said my name. He never called me Katrina.  “You know what? No F$ck this!” I pushed him as hard as I could into the punching bag.  “What the hell was that for?” He asked, turning around looking beyond pissed.  “I know you are hurting, but you don’t have to shut me out. I wasn’t allowed to shut you out when I found Brandon and you don’t get to shut me out over your mate.”  He continued to look at me without blinking and it felt like he was going to murder me. I could feel his soul in turmoil and I desperately wanted to take away his pain.  “Fine!” He said, finally letting go of his gaze and looking down at his hands.  I wrapped him in a hug and we stood holding each other for what felt like forever before he finally pulled away. His eyes were rimmed with red as he held his tears in.  “She doesn’t want me,” he mumbles.  “Did she reject you?”  “No.”  “Did she say she didn’t want you?” “No.”  “OK we have a lot too unpack. You go shower and meet me in my room.”  “I’m fine.”  “Mark, you are far from fine. NOW GO SHOWER AND MEET ME IN MY ROOM.”  His eyes went wide but he listened. I quickly linked one of the cooks and asked her to make me an extra large meat-lover pizza.  Arriving in the kitchen, I grabbed all of Marks' favorites and headed toward my bedroom. Running back to grab the pizza.  When he finally arrived in my room, he looked much better. He was clean and his eyes didn’t look as red.  “I know you haven’t eaten anything so I got your favorites. Now sit and eat and tell me why you think your mate doesn’t want you.”  He sat and started eating and once he was done he laid down on my bed before beginning.  “She was right in front of me and she kissed me. Kat, it was the most amazing kiss I’ve ever had in my life.”  I couldn’t stop myself from thinking about Brandon. The feeling of kissing your mate is by far the best kiss you could ever receive.  “I asked her for her name. It’s Freya.” His voice trailed off thinking about her name.  “So what happened next?”  “I kissed her again. I held her and we danced. She is so beautiful. Did you see how tall she is? So tall and sexy. She had fire-red hair and green eyes that were so bright they almost looked fake.” “So far it sounds good.” I added, trying to sound encouraging. “It was great until I asked what pack she belonged to. Her eyes went wide and she said she was sorry. Then she kissed me and in seconds she was gone.”  “What do you mean gone?”  “It all happened so fast. It was like she disappeared into the crowd.”  We sat in silence. I wanted to help him so badly. Listening to him made me yearn for Brandon and, since I couldn’t be with him, I wanted Mark to have his forever.  ***Mind Link**** ‘We can help him.’ Tala told me. ‘How?’ I asked her, confused.  ‘It will take a lot out of us, but it’s part of our power.’  ‘Are you sure? And why haven’t you said this before?’  ‘It will only work when souls are in turmoil. I think in this case both of them will be in the same turmoil.’ ‘Tala, I hope you are right.’ ********** “I think….I think I can try and find her.” His head snapped up. “What?” “Tala, my wolf says I can try to use my powers to find her.”  “You…You would do that for me?”  “I would do almost anything for you.”  “Except give me your candy.”  “I have to have some limits,” I said, giggling. “Now we are going to watch some crazy amount of movies and I will talk to Alpha after morning training.”  Mark pulled me to him and held me tight.  “You are an angel. Thank you so much. I don’t care what pack she comes from and I just need a chance to show her.”  “I will do my best to make that happen.”  Marks' mood improved and we spent the evening handing out. He was so hopeful, but I was filled with anxiety. I just prayed that Tala was right. I couldn’t let Mark down.
