Freya’s POV
The stunning woman in front of me closed her eyes and I watched as her body began to drop. Using my power, I stopped her from hitting the ground and moved her to the couch. Running my hands through my hair, I could feel myself growing tired from the stress of shape shifting, popping, and now catching her since I hadn’t slept well since meeting my mate.
Allowing my shape to shift back to my natural state. I had made one mistake going into the club that night in my normal body, just disguised as a wolf. I made it a point to visit supernatural clubs and bars to make sure I hadn’t been found.
Bars and clubs are the best places to visit because when any species gets drunk they spill everything or just plain out talk too loud. Usually the wolf community stays to itself and I’ve never gotten any good intel from them, but I still check.
Why did my mate have to be a wolf? They needed to be part of a pack and I needed to be a loner. Why couldn’t I get a vampire or better, no mate at all? I have been on the run since I was 17. The first 3 years were rough. My Uncle almost found me a few times but I always managed to get away.
Maybe this was a good thing I had stayed here for almost 4 years. I knew it was too long. I had gotten comfortable and that was dangerous. That is how I would get caught. Looking over at the young woman passed out, I decided I needed to grab something to eat to try and replenish myself.
Sleeping was the best option or allowing myself to bond with nature’s elements, but that was not an option with her sleeping there.
Conjuring chicken fingers and fries and a large coke. Watching the woman sleeping as I ate. 20 minutes later she still didn’t wake. I even tried shaking her and nothing. The food had helped, but not enough. I needed my energy back. I had no idea what to expect when this woman woke up.
Deciding to bond with the earth. I had enough plants throughout the room. As I felt energy from the plants, I allowed mine to flow toward them too. Then her phone started ringing. Over and over and over. Finally, I saw her eyes flutter open and she pulled her phone from her pocket and answered it sitting up.
“Yeah….I’m fine….I will call you if….” Then she stopped and I realized she was staring at me. I had been so focused on how she didn’t even need to open her eyes to answer her phone I forgot to stop my bonding.
“Shit.” I muttered.
“I have to call you back.” She said, ending the call. “You’re a fairy!”
“Listen lady, I don’t want any problems. I just wanted to make sure you woke up and now that you are awake I can leave.”
“No! Why would you leave?” She asked, tilting her head.
I didn’t say anything, I just looked around my home. I was going to miss it here. This was the first place I felt safe and it really felt like home.
“Ok. How about we try simple introductions? I’m Kat. Well, Katrina, but you can call me Kat. Mark, your mate is my best friend.”
“Freya.” I said
“Freya. That is a pretty name.”
“Thank you.”
“I’ve never seen a fairy before.”
“It’s not common for them to leave Farie. Technically, it’s in a different realm. You can’t enter unless you are a fairy or if you are invited.”
“Since my phone works, my guess is we are not in Farie.”
“No we are not.” I said, looking down.
“I thought fairies were short,” She said and then put her hand over her mouth. “I am so sorry. That was so rude.”
I couldn’t help but laugh.
“It’s ok. It’s a common misconception in this realm. But most fairies are tall and slender. We have very high metabolisms. But since it’s rare for a fairy to leave Farie not many people know the truth.”
Kat nodded and looked around my house.
“So this is your home?”
“Yes.”
“Why did you leave Farie?”
“It’s a long story. Why are you here?”
“I think I touched you, as you…well I’m not sure what you did and brought us here.”
I found myself laughing again. “It’s called popping. We don’t really pop but we bend the fabric of time and move into the next, but calling it popping is so much cooler sounding.”
“It really is and wow, it beats driving.”
“But really, Kat, why are you here and how…how did you find me?”
“I’m here to talk you into coming with me to talk about this mate thing with Mark.”
“But how did you find me? We are nowhere near that club.”
“Yeah….” Kat said, looking around. “I guess if I plan to get you to open up I will have to do the same.”
“It will help,” I said with a smirk.
“Hey, is it true you can’t lie?”
“Basically. Of course, that would be one of the only things this realm got right.”
We sat in silence for a few minutes before Kat finally spoke again.
“Have you heard of the Royal pack?”
I only shrugged my shoulders. I really didn’t follow what happened in the wolf world. I only focus on things that could impact me.
“We are a special pack appointed by the king. Our Luna and Alpha are special and once I joined the pack…I was special too.”
