Five years have passed since Kayla became the Luna of the Gold Moon Pack, ruling and growing the pack alongside her fated mate, Alpha Finn. As their pack grew stronger, their visibility in the werewolf world also increased. Some on the Werewolf Council started to question how a pack can go from being unknown to one of the strongest participating teams at the annual Moon Warrior Games, while rival packs eye the Luna who seemed to have brought upon this change hungrily.

On the eve of Kayla's early graduation from medical school, there seemed little to be jubilant about as danger lurk not only from the outside, but also from within her own pack.

Prologue
The Gold Moon Pack has nearly tripled in size since Alpha Finn and Luna Kayla's reign began five years ago. Not only have existing pack members been having larger families, werewolves from other packs or rogue werewolves were also attracted to join the pack, given its positive reputation in the country. The self-sufficient way of life and the abundance of forest land to run wild in was a big selling point for many werewolves in packs situated within big cities. Moreover, the freedom to continue doing business or spending time in the cities was not discouraged at the Gold Moon Pack, giving many city dwelling werewolves the perfect pack to belong to. Not to mention, since its qualification for the Moon Warrior Games four years ago, Gold Moon Pack had emerged as one of the strongest teams to ever participate in the Games, with warriors who were faster to heal. The attraction was so great that increasingly, male werewolves would choose to join the Gold Moon Pack when they found their mates to be from there. This was almost unheard of in the werewolf world, as the she-wolf would normally join her mate’s pack.             The growth in numbers and strength was no coincidence and many attributed it to the prudent leaders of the Gold Moon Pack. It certainly did not go unnoticed by several members in the Werewolf Council nor by rival packs and it didn’t take a particularly clever werewolf to piece the puzzle together. The phenomenal growth of the Gold Moon Pack had begun five years ago, right after Kayla was declared Luna of the pack. How she had contributed to the success was less important than securing her for themselves and their own packs. The ill intentions of rival packs were no secret and multiple attempts were made over the years to either court the Luna romantically, away from her mate, or outright kidnapping attempts were also undertaken.             Despite Alpha Finn and Beta Leyton’s best efforts to protect their Luna, she was nearly kidnapped two years ago. It was a hot summer night and Kayla had just finished her day at the hospital near their pack lands. As she was walking to her car, one of the new medical students who just moved to the hospital for her clinical rotation asked if she could hitch a ride as her car was out of gas. Not wanting to leave a human girl stranded in the night, Kayla happily obliged and told her driver to send the girl home first before heading back to their pack. As the girl was a human, neither Kayla or her driver thought too much about it. Besides, there were at least two warriors protecting Kayla at a distance at any time. Less than 15 minutes into the drive, the girl plunged a syringe into Kayla’s neck and took her hostage with a silver knife at her neck. Not wanting to risk the life of his Luna, the driver could only follow the orders of the girl and drove towards a rival pack’s territory.             The Moon Goddess was with them that night as Kayla quickly recovered from the wolfsbane, to the surprise and horror of the girl. This enabled them to fight back just as they had entered the rival pack’s territory. Nevertheless, both warriors died of their injuries to protect their Luna and her driver barely made it out with his life. Kayla herself suffered broken ribs and a fractured leg, as she had to refrain from using her powers ever since the Werewolf Council started investigating the incident at the Moon Lake Pack five years ago. Since then, Kayla had agreed with Finn, never to show her powers in public to avoid even more unwanted attention from the Werewolf Council and the rival packs. The almost successful kidnapping attempt nearly drove Finn and Leyton off the edge but they had no choice but to respect Kayla’s wishes to continue her studies outside the safety of the pack lands.             Luckily, Kayla was a very bright student and managed to complete her six-year medical school in five. To say that her mate and her brother were more excited about her official graduation in a month was an understatement. A hospital had already been opened on the pack lands four year with a few doctors from their own pack and new pack members who have joined in the past years. The plan was to have Kayla complete her residency in this hospital and to eventually lead it as part of her Luna duties. Finally, she’d always be within the safety of our own pack lands. Finn smiled to himself at that thought as he prepared a special dinner to celebrate Kayla’s graduation with her.
