Chapter 2: A Little White Lie (Nick's POV)

1833 Words
After Dylan and April left, Accalia entered the room.  “So, how is she?” My sister asked. “Well, like mom said, she is stable, but it doesn’t feel right seeing her like this. Not after what she did for us. After what she did for me...” I responded softly. “I’m sure she’ll be back to her old self in no time.” Accalia tried to sound as positive as possible while approaching. “You don’t get it…” I started crying out, my body filled with anger and hate, “It should’ve been me Accalia. I should be the one lying here, I should be the one--”  “Nick, don’t talk like that!” Accalia interrupted, “You saved her!” “Did I?” I questioned. “What do you mean?” She looked at me with a puzzled glare. “What if she doesn’t want to be like us? What if she doesn’t want to be a werewolf? What if she isn’t ready for all this? What if--” I started rattling while tears filled my eyes. “Okay, that’s enough ‘what if’s’” She suddenly spoke, “I don’t know what the future will hold and I can’t assure you that she is going to embrace her ‘new’ life, BUT I do know that she loves you. With all her heart. Everything she did, she did for you. So I do know she will accept it when the time comes.” I stared into her comforting eyes and knew she was right.  “You know, you are going to make a damn good Luna.” I finally spoke before she pulled me into a tight hug. “Come on, we should get some sleep.” She said while pulling back. “You go ahead, I want to stay with her.” Accalia looked at me, concerned. But it soon changed to understanding. “Okay, I’ll check in on you tomorrow.” She nodded and gave me a kiss on the cheek, before leaving me alone with my mate. ——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————— ~ April’s POV ~ The next morning I woke up later than usual, I was so exhausted and didn’t sleep too well. Luckily we got a free day from school. I kept playing the events from yesterday in my head, like a movie I’d rather not watch. I still can’t believe everything that’s happened. It all just felt like a dream. A really bad dream. But it wasn’t… I found myself lost in thought again, staring straight ahead at my powder pink wall, when I remembered what Nick asked me in the hospital. He wanted me to go and talk to Amy’s dad, so I decided to prepare myself and do just that. I took a shower, put on a little bit of makeup and got dressed.  Before leaving I called Rosie’s mom to check if I could drop my little sister off at her place while I was gone. Rosie was Sofie’s best friend since kindergarten and they did everything together. I also texted Nick, so he would know we were coming. I still wasn’t completely convinced about bringing Amy’s dad to the Pack Hospital, but I guess Nick knew what he was doing. When I was walking down the stairs, I noticed that my little sister was watching some stupid show.  “Hey, you shouldn’t be watching television at this hour!” I pointed out. She was 12 years old and a pain in the but. “I don’t care, you’re not my mother!” She snapped back at me. I took away the remote control and turned it off.  “Heeey!” She yelled annoyed. “Come on, you’re coming with me.” I ordered while pulling her out of the couch and towards the garage. “Wait, what? Why?”  “Because mom doesn’t like it when I leave you alone.” I knew that if my mom would find out that I left Sofie alone, she would kill me.  “I’m not a kid anymore… Where are we even going?” She asked me with her hazelnut eyes staring at me in anger and her arms crossed in front of her. I started the car and left. “I have some things to do,” I said, with emphasis on I. “You are going to Rosie’s.” I clarified right after. “What things do you have to do?” She questioned me with a suspicious glare, lifting her eyebrow. “That’s none of your business!” I spoke sternly. “Ugh, you’re so stupid!”  “Hey, language!” I yelled and after that, she sat quietly but frustrated next to me. It took us about 10 minutes to get to her friends house. I dropped her off and left for Amy’s place. When I found myself standing in front of her door, I could feel a sm all sense of anxiety waving over me. How do I bring this to him? What is he going to say?  “Okay April, get your s**t together, you’ve got this.” I pepped myself up before ringing the bell. I could hear Dave calling from the other side, “I’ll be right there, just give me a moment!”  After waiting for a minute or so, he finally opened the door. “How can I help you?” He asked before he saw me. “Ooh, April, it’s you. So nice to see you again, but Amy’s not here. She texted me that she was staying over at a friends house.” That sneaky bastard Jeremy must’ve used her phone when he kidnapped her. “Uhm, That’s actually what I wanted to talk to you about.” I spoke hesitantly. “Why? Is something wrong?” I could hear the change in his tone. “She, uhm, she had an accident…” Ugh, I didn’t like this. “April, what kind of accident.” He was starting to get impatient.  “She slipped and fell badly…” I lied.  When I noticed the fear and worry in his eyes I continued, “But she’s gonna be okay! Jeremy -- ‘I hate mentioning his name’-- called an ambulance and then he called me. I can take you to the hospital.”  “Why didn’t they call me straight ahead?” He asked frustrated. “She lost her phone when she fell and he didn’t have your number. So he asked me to come and get you.” I tried to sound as convincing as possible. “And whe-- You know what, just take me to her.” He then said, changing his mind. We got in my car and I drove to the Pack’s Hospital. I remembered the way from yesterday. “Wait, aren’t you going the wrong way?” He suddenly asked when we passed by the ‘human’ hospital. “Uhm, no, she is in a smaller private clinic. It was closer to where she fell.” I hated myself for lying so much, but I was kind of used to it by now… After 20 minutes we finally arrived and when the doors of the hospital opened, I held my breath, hoping that Nick made it clear to his pack that a human was coming.  —————————————————————————————————————————————————————————— ~ Nick’s POV ~ I realized it was morning when a nurse came in and opened the curtains, making a ray of sunshine hit me in the face. I was sitting in the chair next to Amy’s bed, with my head on top of it. I must’ve fallen asleep after Accalia had left.  “Good morning Alpha.” The nurse, who’s called Haley, greeted me in a charming way. She was so good with people, always happy and she was great at what she did. “Good morning.” I responded with a yawn, my eyes still adapting to the light. “I’m sorry to wake you, but I must check on our future Luna.” She stated. Our Luna.  It was the first time someone called her that and I liked the sound of it.  “It’s okay.” I assured her.  “Oh, and I brought something you might like.” I followed her finger that was pointing to the table. On top of it there was a platter with some breakfast. “You’re a lifesaver.” I chuckled before digging in. I was starving. After a few minutes, Haley was all done with the examination. “So, how is she?” I asked, while putting my sandwich down. She turned to face me with a smile, “She’s doing good. Her wound is healing and she seems to be getting better.”  I could feel the happiness spreading through my body. “That’s great. Any idea on when she’ll wake up?” I couldn’t resist asking. “I would love to be able to tell you, but it all depends on her.” She confessed. When she noticed my disappointed expression she apologized, “I’m really sorry Alpha.”  “No, don’t be stupid. This isn’t your fault.” I told her. She gave me a nod and left the room. Suddenly my phone went off. It was a message from April: Nick, I’m on my way to Amy’s dad.  Now all I can do is hope that he believes everything that April tells him and prepare the pack for the arrival of a human.
