Chapter 3: Why Can't You See Me? (Amy's Dad POV)

1928 Words
I impatiently followed April through the doors of the hospital. I had no idea there was another one in town.  When we entered, there was a young lady at the reception desk doing some paperwork.  As we got closer, she looked up and greeted us kindly, “Good morning, how may I help you?” “We are here for my daughter. Amy, Amy Adams.” I blurted out, I wanted to see her, now. “Let me check her room number.” She started searching her computer when all of a sudden a familiar looking nurse came from the hallway, “You must be Amy’s dad.”  “Uhm, yes.” It’s like I knew her, but couldn’t remember from where. “Please, follow me Mr. Adams.” Her voice sounded so soothing. “Excuse me, nurse, I just feel like I’ve seen you before. Have we met?” I couldn’t resist asking while walking towards Amy’s room. “You may call me Mary.” She turned to me with a warm smile, “And no, not that I recall.”  We suddenly came to a stop at room 245, “We’re here.” She announced. Mary opened the door, revealing my daughter motionless on the bed with tubes everywhere and Nick beside her.  ——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————— ~ Nick’s POV ~ “Amy’s dad is coming and he has no idea that we are werewolves or that they even exist. So I want you all to act like normal humans and NO shifting as long as he is around!” I ordered through the pack link to make sure everyone was aware that he was coming over and that we needed to be extra careful.  I immediately got responses,“Yes Alpha, we’ll be careful.” We couldn’t risk him finding out, at least not this way. I didn’t want to be the person that told him that his daughter was now a werewolf. This was something she had to do, whenever she felt ready. After a while, I heard a car stop out front and from the sound of it, I knew it was April’s. When I heard footsteps and voices approaching, I prepared myself before the door opened, revealing my mother, who was dressed as a nurse, April and Dave. “Nick, Amy’s dad is here.” My mother announced. “Oh god, my sweet girl!” Dave practically ran towards Amy’s bed and took her hand in his, “How is she?” “She’s doing better, but she had quite the nasty fall.” My mom sounded as convincing as possible. “Is she going to be okay?” He asked concerned. “Yes, but they can’t say when she’ll wake up from the coma.” I jumped in. “What happened? I mean, how did she fall?” He had so many questions and we had to answer each and every one of them with a lie. “How it happened, we’re not completely sure. Jeremy told us he wasn’t looking for a moment and suddenly he heard a scream and when he turned around, she was lying on the ground, unconscious. She must’ve slipped because of the rain.” My mother invented the entire story. “He called us and we got to her as fast as we could.” She continued. “Thank god he saved my little girl. I don’t know what I would do without her.”  I felt a rage spreading through my body and I felt my breathing getting heavier as my wolf was ready to take over.  Saved her?! If only he knew the truth! April noticed my eyes changing color while my claws and fangs came out, “Nick, why don’t we go get something to drink.” She motioned me to follow her outside. I hesitated for a moment, not liking the idea of leaving Amy’s side, but I knew it was the right thing to do. I looked at her one last time and then left the room. “Sweetheart, you have to calm down. You can’t let your wolf take control like that. I know this is hard for you, but we have to be careful. If we say or do something that doesn’t add up, he might get suspicious.” My mother explained. “Nick, do you understand?” April asked when I kept staring in front of me with my teeth clenched, not saying anything.   “Yes, I do.” I muttered under my breath before snorting in anger, “I just want to find him and tear him apart, limb from limb! I want him to get what he deserves!”  “I understand darling and we are doing everything we can to find him. We put our best trackers on the job first thing this morning, but you have to be patient. Jeremy is a clever wolf, it’s not going to be easy.” My mother spoke with a soft voice, trying to calm me down. “I don’t want to put Amy through this again. I want her to wake up knowing that he is gone.” I knew that as long as Jeremy was out there, alive, Amy wasn't safe. None of us were. “Nick, the most important thing now, is being here for her. She’s gonna wake up in a world that she didn’t even know existed. She’s gonna need our help more than ever.” She tried to reason.  “Fine, but when we find him, he’s mine.” I ordered, determined. —————————————————————————————————————————————————————————— ~ Amy’s dad POV ~ As Nick, April and nurse Mary were leaving the room, I couldn’t keep it together any longer, “Oh, my sweet, sweet Amy.” Tears filled my eyes and I started  crying while caressing my baby’s hair. “You’ve gotta wake up, I can’t bear the thought of losing you too. You’re all I have left of her.” I spoke between sobs. Seeing her like this, it broke my heart. “You remind me so much of her. I can see her in everything you are and do. In the way you talk, the way you look… It’s like she never left. She would be so proud of the woman you’re becoming.” I confessed while wiping away my tears. “I need you sweetheart… Please, I’m begging you, come back to me.” I just sat there, hoping for her to wake up or show me that she could hear me, but nothing happened. So I decided to wait. Time passed and I was lost in thoughts when I heard a knock on the door. “Come in.” I yelled to whoever was on the other side. Nick walked in, holding a coffee in his hand. “I brought you something to drink.”  “Thank you.” I said, while taking the warm cup and leaving it on the table. “So, any improvement?” He asked hopefully. “No, not yet. But she’s a strong one, a fighter, just like her mother.” I could feel my eyes sting again. “Yeah… She is.” He tried to hide it, but you could hear the sadness in his voice.  After a moment of silence, he started leaving, “I--I’ll leave you two alone.” “You know, If you want, we can wait together.” I offered him, knowing it would be best for the both of us not being alone right now.  He hesitated for a moment, “That sounds great, thank you.” And he quietly sat down in the chair on the other side of the bed. —————————————————————————————————————————————————————————— ~ Amy's POV ~ I woke up, not knowing exactly where I was, but it looked and smelled like a hospital. I started running, going crazy, since I didn’t know the way, but I could sense Nick’s presence. When I finally reached the reception, I saw him and his family sitting in the waiting room. “Nick, you did it! You saved me!” I yelled while running towards them, but they didn’t spare me a glance.  At that moment, April and Dylan stormed through the doors and I turned to face them, “April, Dylan, I’m so glad to see you!” But again no reaction. What the hell was going on?  “So where is she?” April asked.  What are they talking about, I’m right here. I’m fine! “Helllloooo, I’m right here! Why can’t you see me? I’m right here!” I yelled before breaking down to the floor, crying. It was no use, it was as though they couldn’t see me.  “They can’t hear you.” I suddenly heard a voice coming from behind me. I turned around, revealing a beautiful, mysterious woman. Her long silver hair was tied up in a braid, revealing her light skin tone and she was wearing a sparkling headband tiara.  “Who are you? And how come you can see me?” I asked her in complete confusion. “All in good time. First, I need you to follow me.” Her voice sounded so soothing and she gave me the feeling that everything was going to be okay. I followed her through the hospital as she gracefully showed me the way, not saying a word. When we stopped, she pointed towards a door. I opened it hesitantly and I saw myself lying on top of the bed, unconscious, while nurses and doctors were busy cleaning my wounds and checking my vitals.  “What’s happening? How is this possible? Am I dead?” It was getting harder and harder to breathe. “No, you are alive. But you are in a coma. And for you to be able to wake up, you’re going to have to accept your new fate.”
