CHAPTER 22 Eli stood awkwardly at the back of the room, watching as people filed in. He recognized about a third of the faces as his opponents in the Reindeer Games, but there was only one face he cared about right now. When he caught a glimpse of bright orange hair against a dash of brown skin and heard Max’s trademark wheezy snarfle, he let out the breath he’d been holding. Ginger looked good. Great, really. They both did. Max was no longer sporting the reindeer headband, but she had a new collar—bright orange to match Ginger’s hair instead of the red one she’d had at Spirit Lake. He realized he was almost as excited to see Max as he was to see her owner. He’d been thinking about Ginger almost non-stop since he’d got on the chopper, and he was afraid that maybe when he saw her again,
