Seth didn't want to be in that auction. He couldn't understand why men would offer to buy ladies as though they were slaves. But he had no chance but to attend.
The biggest investor in his company had invited him personally and not going would definitely have consequences.
All through the bidding, he had his face hung low and his face mask on so that no one could see his expression. He couldn't help but realize that humans were worse than animals. What were they trying to gain by buying and selling these poor girls?
He had his AirPods plugged in as. he fixed his attention on his phone, scrolling through business news. He felt a tap on his shoulder and glanced up to see a man staring down at him with a smirk.
Seth sighed lazily and slowly took out the AirPods from his ear as he turned to face Jace with a bored expression.
"Is the event not to your liking?" Jace asked as he sat beside him and Seth remained quiet instead of answering him. Jace was his business rival and he wouldn't hesitate to try to mess with Seth.
"What? The ladies aren't beautiful enough or are you just trying to act like a saint?" Jace asked again and Seth glared at him, causing him to chuckle as he zipped his lips.
He placed his AirPods back in his ears when he heard the bidder signify the last girl to be auctioned. Finally, he thought, it was finally over.
He returned his attention to his phone when the scent suddenly hit him and his head shot up in an instant. He could smell a werewolf in that vicinity and he could tell it was a female. His eyes landed on the lady in the transparent glass and he froze.
There she was. He had never seen a werewolf in the human world, let alone being sold off by the humans. Why wasn't she putting up a fight? Her eyes were dead and void of any emotions and he could tell that she had given up on everything.
Taking a close look at her, he couldn't help but be attracted to her. She was ethereal and stuck in that glass with tears rolling down her cheeks, he couldn't help but be drawn into her.
"f**k, I like the one. I should get her for myself." Jace whistled as he joined in the bidding and Seth's wolf crawled under his skin in unease. He didn't want to get involved but his wolf was making it hard for him.
"Fifteen million dollars.” He turned to see an old man announce, and his blood boiled within him. Such an old man who was old enough to be her grandpa wanted to buy her as his slave.
Without thinking twice, Seth blurted "One hundred million dollars."
The whole room went silent after his words and he stood up while Jace whistled in amusement.
"So you aren't a saint after all. Buying the prettiest of them all.” Jace said with a grin but Seth ignored him as he took a step forward. His eyes met Gwen's and she was staring at him with wide eyes.
She could tell he was a werewolf. She didn't understand why but her heart immediately relaxed after seeing that she was being sold to a werewolf alpha and not a human. But she couldn't help but wonder why he wanted her. Maybe because he knew she was a werewolf? Or was he attracted to her?
“One million dollars for the pretty lady, going… going… gone! Congratulations to 001 for getting the diamond in the rough! We have come to the end of today's auction. Congratulations!” The bidder yelled as the curtains drew close and Seth ran a hand through his hair in despair.
He didn't know why he blurted that out. He had no intention of getting a slave. And she didn't look like a weak omega who could be bossed around.
Backstage, Mark helped Gwen out of the glass and she had a dazed expression on her face. She could tell that he was handsome. Was he going to treat her right? Maybe even fall in love with her? Her thoughts were going wild.
“I guess you fell into the right hands. I'm happy for you.” Mark said as he draped his coat over her and she turned to look at him with hope in her eyes for the first time in a while.
“Who is he?” She asked and he let out a sigh before leaning on the wall as she peeked outside.
“Seth Valdez, the richest billionaire in Colorado, no, in the whole USA. He gave a hundred million dollars just like that, what do you think?” He asked and her eyes rounded in surprise as she stared at Mark with a hint of happiness in her expression.
“Is he violent? Wicked? Mean?” She asked and when he remained silent, she sighed in despair as her excitement faded away. So he was just like the humans after all.
Her heart skipped a beat when Seth suddenly walked backstage and her breath hitched when she saw his face fully. He was one of the most handsome men she had ever seen. His gaze was piercing as he stared at her like he could see her soul and she fought the urge to hide behind Mark.
He was her new master from now on and she had to do everything he wanted.
“Chain her up and take her to the car,” Seth ordered as his men walked and placed chains on her hands and legs, not giving her a moment to protest.
“No- wait, I can walk! Don't do this!” She yelled as they lifted her like she was a log of wood and walked out. Mark stared at Seth for a while and there was some kind of unspoken tension between both of them.
Seth took out his checkbook and wrote an amount of money on it before passing it to Mark, whose eyes widened in shock.
“What the hell? One million dollars? What happened to a hundred million dollars?” Mark asked in annoyance and Seth simply raised his brow at him with a bored expression on his face.
“Would you have it or should I take it back? We both know she isn't worth it.” Seth replied as he shoved the book back into his pocket and turned around to walk away.
“Don't treat her like s**t,” Mark suddenly said, stopping Seth in his tracks as he turned to look at him. “You don't deserve her.” He added and Seth's brow raised in amusement.
“And if I do? What are you going to do about it?” Seth asked as he pushed Mark backward, causing him to stumble.
