Have you ever wondered why the world is full of cruel people? People born without the heart of humanity, who despise the ways of man, wolf and all other creatures out there.
It's a cruel world, faint hearted people don't survive in this kind of world.
Freya let out a sigh, a sigh of emptiness, void feeling in her heart.
“What's going through your head Fay?” Vicky whispered into Freya's ear, startling her and bringing her back to reality. They both sat in chemistry class as Lecture was going on but Freya was lost in her thoughts.
She stared at her while shaking her head no.
“I just have a lot going through my mind right now” Freya whispered back to Vicky. Freya was bored by the topic and the teacher too. She wanted to be in her room reading romance books. A book that'll take her mind off the harsh reality before her, alas she couldn't reject her fate.
“I need two pairs to complete this assignment. And I'm expecting a report by next week. Have a good day” Mr Williams announced, ending his class.
“Finally” Vicky groaned and turned to Freya, who was stuffing books into her bag.
“Let's go have lunch,” Vicky said, smiling at Freya. She seems to be in a good mood today, Freya thought.
“Why? You know I don't sit there” Freya reminded with a frown
“Well today something special is about to happen and I want you to be there to witness it '' Vicky's smile never fades as she speaks. Freya never eats in the school cafeteria, why? Because of eye services.
She hates people staring at her, talking to her even. Most especially Jason.
Jason has always been her number one bully ever since she had set her foot at Greenville high. Jason has always hated her, reason? Because she doesn't find him attractive like other girls, at least that's what she thought. He is also your typical bad boy bully that everyone fears, maybe because he was the Alpha’s son or the son of the president of the school. And awfully reticent.
Greenville High is a school that harbours a lot of creatures ranging from Werewolves, vampires and witches. Humans do not exist in this part of the world so they don't attend school. Not because they're not in existence but they're in conflict with the creatures. Humans have been their number one enemy, and always try to eliminate them from the surface of earth. Because of this, they've all gone into hiding. Providing schools for their younglings to grow and understand their part of the world.
Humans and the supernatural humans all lived at peace centuries past, but their alliance was shattered just because of greed of a particular man. The human, felt a great threats from supernatural humans, they believed that they were a threat to their dominance and way of life. This particular man rallied his fear and spread this belief with others, and soon the war began with the supernatural beings.
The wolves, vampires and witches all tried to protect their respective members, their rights and freedom. But despite their bravery, they were vastly outnumbered and outgunned. As the war carried on for years, the moon Goddess finally intervened, casting a powerful spell that separated the humans from the creature Although a lot of people were killed in the war, she created a divine guide separating the species entirely, so they the supernatural humans went into hiding ever since, hiding in the shadows and waiting for the right day to redeem their rights.
Vicky is a witch and Freya’s only friend in this school. She always stands up for her and always comes to her rescue whenever she's being bullied. Freya on the other hand is a wolf and an omega. An omega is the lowest rank in the werewolf clan and they're considered the weakest, this for in fact, makes Freya a constant prey for the others to bully.
“Come on. You know I'm not good at guessing” Freya said childishly.
“Alright, today is my birthday and….. Carl planned a surprise for me. Of course he doesn't know that I know but I'll still act surprise” she said with a squeal.
“Oh that's right. I almost forgot your birthday” Fraya said, acting surprised.
“Well I know you never remember, so that's why I'm inviting you to come” she said happily.
They both got up and walked to the school cafeteria where they spotted Carl with his friends.
They joined them at their table as they discussed soccer.
“So, what is happening today?” Vicky was the first to speak, interrupting them.
“Nothing you?”Carl asked, trying to hide the smile from his face.
“You know nothing, just me and my friend here” Vicky dragged her words
“I didn't notice you there Freya” Carl said, directing his attention to Freya who just sat with her friend, fixated on the floor, staring at nothing in particular. She was feeling anxious of all the attention on her, she felt like a melting ice cream on a hot sunny day, wishing the ground would open up and swallow her whole. Sweats dripping down her face profusely.
“Oh.. I.. um hi Carl” she nervously waved at him. He smiled at her then turned back to Vicky.
“I have something to show you” he said, holding Vicky by her hand and taking her out of their sights. Freya, head up, wanted to leave there immediately before something unlucky happened to her. She got up, with her tray of food in her hands, turned to leave for the janitor's closets where she normally eats. As she turned abruptly she collide with something hard and fell back to her seat. Butts first.
She got up to apologise but was shocked to see Jason.
“I'm.. sorry. I wasn't looking where I was…” she stuttered, his pheromones filling her lungs. She felt weird standing beside him. Her wolf was acting more strangely than usual but she couldn't point out why.
Jason stared at her irritatedly, dusting off food crumbs from his shirts.
“This costs more than your life. Do you know that?” He said in a low growl.
She nodded
“I can wash them for you if you don't mind” she suggested, her legs felt wobbly but she stood strong not giving him the chance to view her as weak.
He picked the glass of soda which was half empty, and poured it on her head.
Everyone gasped at this before he walked away.
She just stood there drenched in soda. A tear appeared in her eyes and she ran to the Restroom. On her way, she bumped into Martins, A vampire and he has a little crush on Freya since first grade.
He held her hand, stopping her but she forcefully pushed him away, running back to the restroom.
She got to the restroom sink, turned on the tap and washed the soda off her face.
She kept tearing up and wiping her face with the back of her hands when Vicky suddenly arrived.
“Freya.. I'm so sorry for not being there….”
“I told you I never sat there, but you forced me…” her voice trailed off as she yelled.
“I know it's my fault. And I'm sorry. I'll fix this” Vicky assured her while walking out of the restroom.
Freya stayed in the restroom for another half hour, skipping most lectures, but she didn't care. She's too embarrassed to go out. All eyes will still be on her.
The final bell rang, indicating school closing hour.
She waited in the restroom for everyone to leave before deciding to step out. The school environment was empty, not a single soul was found. She adjusted her bag and eye glass before walking out confidently.
“Myers!!” She heard a familiar voice calling name. Nobody but The teachers and Jason called her by her last name and she's sure that no teacher was around.
She gently turned, adjusting her glasses.
Jason stepped out of his hidden spot and walked closer to her, and she felt intimidated by his presence.
“I swear, I won't tell anyone. This is only between us. No one will hear about it” she said with a trembling voice.
“Have you found your mate yet?” This question threw her off guard, she never thought that he, of all people, would care for her.
“No, not yet. I'll be turning 18 by next week and by then I should find my mate” she said, swallowing hard on her saliva.
Jason scanned her innocent scared face and let out a scoff.
“No one will ever accept an omega like you, especially not me” he glared before leaving.
What does he mean by that? Especially me?
The last part kept Freya up all night, rolling in her bed. She tried reading on of her novels she had collected from the school library but found it difficult to concentrate. Even though she told herself that she wouldn't think much of it, she found herself thinking about Jason's word.
Slowly she closed her eyes and drifted off to sleep, holding the book in her hands.
