No longer a princess.
Alessia.
It was a joyous occasion, at least to them.
The air was stuffed with excitement and delight as two key figures in the Silverwall pack tied the knot, promising a forever to each other and a tone of 'till death do us part' cr*p.
As the final vows were uttered, officially pronouncing them as a couple, cheers filled the hall, and members of the pack jumped up and down, celebrating their soon-to-be Alpha and his Luna
Their cheers were like torture to my ears, and the happiness in their eyes a stark contrast to the gloom in my green orbs.
He wore a tender smile as he looked at her, his eyes clouded by love and warmth, the same way he once used to look at me, as he pulled her closer, hungrily taking her lips into his.
For a moment, I closed my eyes. I couldn't watch it. I refused to watch as he kissed her. I thought I was strong, I thought that the six years of pain and torture had toughened me and killed my heart, but I was wrong. The sight of Lucian kissing someone else, promising them a forever, crushed all the walls that I had built. He was the only reason I was able to hold for so long, after all.
He was the only reason I didn't give up six years ago. For six years, the thought of marrying him, the thought of fighting next to him, and reclaiming what was rightfully mine kept me moving, pushing and enduring. He was the only person who remained in my life when I lost everything after all. And now?
Hot tears squeezed past my tightly shut eyes down to my old and thin top. My nails dug deeply into my skin, but that pain was nothing. That pain was insignificant compared to the scorching pain within. The pain of losing the only person that I loved. The pain of betrayal and the pain of losing everything. The bitter lump of watching helplessly as my world crumbled just before me. It was over, wasn't it? Was there a need to keep on fighting?
" They look good together, don't they, Alessia?" A very familiar voice called out, a voice that had my insides churning with hatred and venom.
Slowly, I peeled my eyes from the altar, and I turned to face the intruder. She wore a sweet smile, her eyes twinkling with excitement as she looked at me.
" Perfect. " Mastering up all the strength within me, I whispered, my eyes moving back to the newlyweds who could hardly contain their joy. It was a surprise, you know? Before that, they had always been enemies, and now? They were in each other's arms. They looked more like long-time lovers, like they had been in love for years and the thought of it, more than the pain of the betrayal itself, was driving me crazy.
"Yes. Perfect. " She whispered, but I didn't miss the disappointment in her tone. Maybe she wanted me to disagree, to scream and curse, or maybe, she wanted me to break down and wail at the betrayal, and the absence of it all dissatisfied her.
Well, she was right, I was hurting, but I was never going to show it to her.
Never. She of all the people didn't deserve to see my sorrow because she thrived in seeing my tears.
"I am glad you could make it. Today is your cousin's big day. I wouldn't want you to miss it. Besides, it would break Elara's heart. You have to give her your blessings, after all. " She whispered, wearing the same sick smile, and I was stifling a puke. The sight of her was nauseating enough, not to add, her double-layered words were literally poking at my patience.
Yeah, that person next to me was my aunt, or should I say, godmother? Yes! She was once my godmother, but not anymore. She used to be one of my favourite people after my parents.
She used to love me more than her own daughter. Well, that's what I used to think until reality dealt a heavy blow to my naive self.
She used to be my mom's best friend, and to me, she was an aunt and a godmother. Her name was Cora.
Once upon a time, just like every other person, she had doted on me, but not anymore. She used to be the Beta's wife and her daughter, now, the new bride in the pack, Elara, used to be my best friend, but not anymore.
And Elara's father, the beta? He used to be my favourite uncle. He loved and spoiled me the most, more than my father ever did. Back then, my life was perfect, but not anymore.
My name is Alessia White. Well, Alessia White was before, now I was just Alessia the slave.
Back then, I used to be the Silverwall Pack's little princess, but not anymore. Back then, I had the whole world revolving around me, but now? A sad smile stretched at the corners of my lips as I stared down at my old and barely wearable sneakers, the only decent pair that I had in my name, if I may add. And my thoroughly used-up blue jeans now almost white? It boldly reminded me of my current position- no longer a princess, not anymore.
But how did it turn out like this? More fat tears framed my cheeks as I took a memory lane. I hardly cried. Over the six years, I had cried enough to empty my tear ducts, but the sight of Lucian, my love, my world, and my childhood sweetheart marrying my cousin-turned-enemy made me cry. I guess that's what love turned people into- weak.
It was simple. One fateful night, and I lost everything, from my parents to my title as the princess of the pack. My parents went on a pack-related trip, and they never made it back. They were met by a fatal accident, which claimed their lives. Sadly, they burned inside their car, and nothing was recovered, not even their ashes.
The next day, Uncle Ron, the beta and my father's brother, took over the pack, and my life had never been the same again. From that day, everything changed, and did I mention? Yes, everyone changed too. Well, except for one person, Lucian. At least, not until I saw him marrying Elara the moment I stepped into the pack after a month of being away.
Yes, I had been gone for a month, slaving away in a foreign pack, serving Elara's spoilt little sister who apparently, had a dream to travel the world and who would be best suited at serving her while she was at it? The pack's slave, of course. That's what I was reduced to after the death of my parents. Even a little kid could order me around.
The treatment that I used to receive before my parent's death changed. In a day, my position degraded from the prestigious princess to a slave. I only lived to serve. Uncle Ron turned into a monster, torturing me in every painful way possible.
And his wife? She went from my godmother to my tormentor, using every opportunity to humiliate me while acting kind before everyone else.
At that time, I was only twelve, but I was made to slave around, doing things that pups my age couldn't.
Even my cousin, that once sweet girl that used to follow me around, changed, turning into a python that I couldn't recognise.
Apart from being the pack's slave, I was her personal maid, forced to follow her around, tending to the current princess's every need with my head bowed. That was the life that the once highly favoured Princess Alessia led for six years.
I was starved, I was tortured, and I was humiliated to the point that I wished for death. There were moments when I thought of giving up, but I didn't. Because when everyone else left and betrayed me, there was a person who resisted the temptation, and I once dreamed of a forever with him. I once dreamed of growing grey hair with him. For him, I endured everything, waiting for my eighteenth birthday. Waiting for my wolf, waiting to fight for my pack alongside him, waiting to rule the pack with him after killing those traitors, but now?
He joined the enemy, and once again, I was all alone.
What happened to the love that he had for me? What happened to the promises that he once made to me? What about the future that he once promised me? Was it all a lie?
More tears streamed down my face as I watched him, feeding her a cake from his lips.
" What a heartwarming scene?" As if it was not painful enough, Aunt Cora reminded, her words pricking my heart in the most inexplicable ways.
I was too consumed by the pain of the betrayal to notice her presence. I had totally forgotten about her, I even thought that she had left, but how could she? She could give anything just to witness the sorry state that I was in.
" You have been away for a month. Things are a bit messy around here. Later, there will be guests coming to celebrate your cousin's marking ceremony. Tidy everything up. And yeah, prepare the Alpha's suite for the newlyweds. " She wore a delicate smile as she bossed, but even that was not enough to mask the victorious glint in her eyes.
" And," She pulled me closer, " Decorate their bedroom with lots of red roses, and don't forget to scent it with the best candles. The mood has to be right, right?" She whispered, a smirk tugging at the corners of her lips.
*************
I could barely stand, but I dragged my body, cleaned the floors, changed the beddings and decorated the Alpha's suite as instructed, and the saddest part was, I was preparing the bed for the man I loved, only that he was going to sleep in it with another she-wolf.
Sad? I was more than sad, but what could I do? I was their slave, after all...
'Not anymore, Alessia! We are not going to be their slaves for too long!' My wolf, Isara's bitter voice reminded at the back of my mind.
To that, I didn't get the time to respond as the most heartwarming and mouthwatering scent wafted through the air, momentarily freezing me in place.
It was the scent of the earth on a rainy day, mixed with a touch of cloves. It was sweet and consoling, magically calming me, and I found myself sprinting outside the room, searching for the source.
" Mate!" Just outside the door, my wolf's weak voice called out.
" Mate!" Another voice responded, almost immediately.
Then I saw him. Our eyes locked, and the world around us faded....
