Chapter 1 - Arrival
Cambria P.O.V.
There was nothing like the air in a small town. The first step off an airplane or running in a field of sunflowers. The air here was clean and fresh, I could smell the floral arrangements around before I could see them. Being here was a different head space, a completely different view point. It was exactly what I needed. Out of the darkened cities covered in smoke and whatever dazed reality that seemed to be what big cities focused and centered around. Calvark was a town of history and mystery. It was about 30 miles south of the northern mountains and seemed to rain a lot. At least that's what I had heard online. Though admittedly not much was known about the place. The people here had kept there history, secrets, hell even there scandals a secret. The mystery that shivered through the air called to me almost like an itch in the back of my throat.
Stepping out of the airport was like scratching that itch. Much to my surprise the weather here was actually sunny the day of my arrival. There was a soft breeze blowing in the trees that somehow told the secrets of winter coming around the corner. Luckily I had found a place to live already with the money I had saved up previously. I got a rental car for now despite my big hatred for the vehicles.
It took about 20 minutes to arrive from the airport to the main building to the apartment I had decided to live in. I walked inside and waited for the older lady who was hanging fall leaves around the place.
"Hi! How can I help you?" she asked
"Hi, yes I'm Cambria I ordered an apartment here and was told to come here first thing." I answered giving her a small smile in hopes that didn't come off rudely.
"I'm Cecilia I own this place!"
She was an enthusiastic older lady with a loud voice. I was surprised when she turned to find her hair so healthy and shiny looking. The color was a vibrant orange with touches of red through out and came down to just past her shoulders. She had small ringlet curls through out that looked like fingers had been strolled through them a hundred times. Nonetheless she was very elegant and fluid in her every movement.
Grabbing the keys she started walking towards the mailboxes.
"This here is your 6B" she said pointing to the bright silver one with the touch of a soft blue circle in the right corner.
"Come I will show you to the apartment. How was your flight in? Do you have other things to bring in?" She asked curiously, though she tried to hide it I could see her light brown eyes scanning me almost as if to get a reading.
"Thank you and no I only brought this suitcase with me" I answered hoping she wouldn't ask me why or about my past.
She didn't exactly give me an answer only a slight nod and a look. It was clear to see she found that odd and admittedly it was. The rest of the walk was quite, both of us in our own heads. She unlocked the door before handing me the keys and pretty much demanding I go to a restaurant in town that was her favorite.
Getting inside I realized I would at least need an air mattress to sleep on until I went furniture shopping for my bedroom. I changed into a long sleeved knitted baby pink shirt and jeans with small rips at the knees. Deciding that food ultimately came before looking good I grabbed my purse and keys and left the apartment.
Getting to the diner was easy seeing as the town wasn't very big in the first place. Walking in the place had a warmth to it. It was cozy and had a sense of home to it which was almost off putting to me. Nonetheless I let the waiter take my order and engaged in the small talk conversation she insisted on having with me. Overall the food and people here seemed nice and endearing. However I wonder how long that will last? Was this small town life? Or was it ' a stranger is in my town and I want to know why'. At the end of the meal the girl whos names I learned was Ava insisted I take some of her spiced tea recipe she had made fresh. I thanked her for the kind gesture and left.
By the time I had arrived bac home it was nearly 11 pm. No matter where I went or how long I intended to take in a*****e somehow people had endless questions to ask. Though there were essentially all centered around the same thing. Why I was here.
