Chapter 7 Unknown hunter, At first, I didn't know what I was looking at. This man came into the cemetery, talking to a grave. Suddenly, a woman came out of nowhere. They talked about a mate, and she will always love him. Then she was gone. I smelled her before he did. I had my gun aimed at his head, but I stopped when he said her name, telling her to come out or he would come out after her. I knew that smell. We killed off her whole pack. How did she get out? I just don't understand how she survived after all those years. It's been over two hundred years since we killed off that pack. We were sure that they were all gone. These things could sniff us out; they could help the wolves from us. I knew I had to get back to the hunter's cabin before she could send me out and let him know about me. She has to go down. I ran as fast as I could. Rushing into the door, they all looked at me with shocked looks on their faces. I guess they were wondering why I was back so early. Usually, when one of us leaves, we don't come home for a few months. We hunt down wolves, killing them when we find them, then we skin them so they won't be able to heal. “Why are you back so early? You're not supposed to be here for another month. What's going on?” One got away. Remember, many years ago, we killed and burnt down their pack, the pack of mutts, shepherd lycans, the ones that could scent us and kill us before we could get away. One got away. I saw her. She's a wolf's mate. Can you believe that? She is a wolf's mate. They laughed at me. They actually laughed. I was not joking about this. Stepping in closer, they stopped laughing when they smelled the scent. They snarled. “How the h*ll did she get out of there? We made sure all of them were home that day, then we attacked, then burnt everything down. Who was her mate?” “I think she called him Hunter. He's a werewolf. I was about to shoot him when she came out of the bushes. They left together.” “Did you see where they went? Was he an alpha, or just a member? Did you hear the name of the pack?” They were asking a ton of questions. “No to all of it. I'm not sure if he is an alpha, but I could feel power, like he was strong, so he might be an alpha. I don't know what pack, and no, I didn't follow them. I ran right back here to tell all of you.” Are you kidding me, Vapo? What you should have done was pull the damn trigger on her ass; then, she would have been dead by now. Why the h*ll didn’t you do that?” I wasn’t thinking, Nate. All I could think about was getting back here to tell all of you, but all you could do was laugh. So, what are we supposed to do now?” We go out there and search for it. Once we find it, we kill it. They can't kill all of us. Next time you see it, kill the f*****g b***h. For crying out loud, she must be a protector of something. If we find out who or what it is, then we find her, and we kill both of them. Hunter POV When we left, I could have sworn I smelled something. I knew we were being watched, but I couldn't tell what it was. On the drive home, I kept thinking about it. Then it was Bayley who said it. "You smelled it too, didn’t you? My parents once said that hunters are everywhere; we always have to be careful. I'm starting to remember things from so long ago. They come in bits and pieces, but I think they are the reason why I can't find my kind. I think I'm the last of my kind.” "Fu*k, a hunter, that's all I need right now, a fu*king hunter," she squeezed my hand, I squeezed hers back. It's a way to comfort each other. We made it back to the pack. I parked the car, then we both got out. Everyone was still awake or just woken up, and they were all outside. "Guys, you remember Bayley, right? Well, I would like to announce that I have found my second chance mate, and Bayley is it." They didn't say anything at first, then they all cheered for us. "Alpha, why does she smell different? I know she's not a wolf; what is she?" It was Sandra. She was a sweet girl but also nosey. "Yes, young lady, you are correct. I do smell different. It's because I'm not a werewolf; I am something else. But in time, I will show you what I truly am. But don't worry, I am not a threat; I am a protector.” "Thank you for answering my question, Luna. It's a pleasure to meet the one that stole the alpha's heart." I couldn’t help but smile. My pack was warming up to her; I was so grateful for that. They all welcomed her by hugging her; then they went on with what they were doing. "I think the pack likes me. That's good. But what do you want to do now? I mean, I don't know what to do right now; I was never a mate to anyone. So what now?" Smirking, I told her, "Well, we could go up to the bedroom and see what happens," wiggling my eyebrows at her. She laughed, patting my shoulder. “Easy there, big boy, not right now. Let us take our time and see where it goes. But let's head inside; you can give me a tour." "Sounds like a plan. Come on, I’ll show you around."
