Chapter 26 Bayley's POV I knew I shouldn't have left Hunter like that, but all he would do is argue with me to stay. At the end, I knew I had to leave. I knew Jessica would have healed and then headed back to her pack. I needed to get my things from her. I knew where they were. I just wanted to wait for her to come so I could see that she was okay. I was worried about her, but damn, I could feel Hunter's anger. I had to see through her eyes, so that's what I did. I saw her hurrying up the stairs to our room. I saw her opening the door and everything was thrown everywhere. I wish he could have heard me when I told him I was sorry for leaving like this. When she came into her office, she ran to hug me, and then we talked for a few minutes. Then she gave me my things. I left to get my horse. Yeah, I got another one. She was beautiful, a black stallion. I called her Nila. She's a little badass too. I softly kicked her sides, careful not to hurt her, and then we started running into the woods. I'm not sure when we will be back. But we will be back. There are maybe twenty hunters I need to track down. Once they're gone, then I'll be back. I didn't think I would run into a hunter so early, but I did. He jumped down from the tree, knocking me off my horse. Hurrying to get up from the ground, I knew there was a matter of time before he would be on top of me. Grabbing for my sword, I stood there with the sword over my shoulder. I wasn't going to go down without a fight. The hunter stood there smirking, and then he started talking. I hated it when they talked. It was just a waste of time. "You think a sword is going to stop me from killing you? I've heard there was one of you left. I didn't think I would find you this fast. I'm going to make this quick." I knew what that meant. He had a gun, and sure enough, he pulled it out, aiming it at my head. Then he pulled the trigger. I saw the bullet coming. He shot again, and I saw that one coming as well. I moved from the first one, then the other one whizzed right by my left arm, just grazing me. It burned, but it was just a scratch, though it still hurt. He shot at me several times. Two missed, one got my arm. "F*ck me up a duck," it hurt. Almost dropping my sword, growling, then my lycan came out. I couldn't stop the shift. Sometimes, she takes over. Once she shifted, she stormed over to him. He looked at us in terror. I don't think he thought we would shift. He tried to run. I caught him by his shirt. I didn't see the knife he had in his right hand. He reared back, catching the arm that had him. He sliced a good cut on my lycan's arm. She roared, jerking him back. The knife went flying across the woods. Alpha Growled at him, her teeth baring down onto his head. He was screaming as she took a chunk from his head, spitting it out. The hunter died on the spot. Shifting back to my human form, I knew this wasn't the end. The hunters would feel that one of their own died. Let me make sure when they find them, they will heed the warning. Tossing a rope up in a tree, I tied the other side to his feet. Then, climbing the tree, I tied and pulled the hunter up, having him hang upside down. I tied the rope to a strong branch, then jumped back on the ground. I found the knife not too far from us. Putting it in one of the bags, I knew what I was going to do with it. I just needed to find the time to do it. I needed to get out of here before the others get here and find the dead one. Getting back on Nila, we ran off, hoping I didn't run into any more before I could get some rest. Two days later, Hunter's POV I thought about what I was going to do with the bedroom that I had torn apart. I spent a few days thinking; I already missed my mate. I knew she had gotten hurt; I felt it—more of a sting than a burning sensation. She got shot, but she was still alive, or I would have felt her death. I had a blueprint, and I knew the pack house would just get bigger because of what I wanted to do. I didn't know how long she would stay away, so I needed to start on the project. I was cleaning up, even though the cleaners cleaned everything. I needed to get the bed out of there with the dresser that I didn't break, plus all the clothes that were in the walk-in closet. I needed to make sure everything was out of the room. Once done, I went to the office. I knew I had to get some work done; I needed to get my mind off things, or I was going to go freaking crazy. I noticed there was a package on my desk. There was no name, just mine. What in the hell is going on? I carefully opened it. I saw a knife in the box. What in the hell is going on here? Then there was a note; okay, this is creeping me out. What is going on? The knife had blood on it. Was it hers? Was this a warning? Opening the letter, I read it. “One down.” That's all it said. I could tell that Bayley wrote it. I laughed as I put the knife in the desk. She wanted me to know that she was okay. I could relax just a little. But who am I kidding, relax? There was no way until she was home. I wanted to go after her; we could both go after these hunters. But where would I start? I didn't even know where she was or how to start. She was a Lycan, a Shepard Lycan; this was crazy. Who would I talk to? I knew about other Lycans; maybe I could get ahold of one, but there was always a price. s**t, it's worth it. Looking through my numbers, I found the man I needed to speak
