Chapter 62
Carrie POV
It had been a while since Roman and I had really spoken. He’d been at another pack for several weeks. He said it was for a meeting.
Yeah. Okay.
Whenever he used to visit another pack, it only lasted a few days. This time, it had been over a week. I already knew what he was doing. Photos had been sent to me from an unknown number—pictures of him flirting, drinking, and acting like he didn’t have a chosen mate waiting for him back home.
Honestly? I didn’t care.
All I wanted was to show this man that I could take his title if I wanted to. Not now, though. I’d do it at the Warrior Challenge. That’s where I’d bring him down and take his place.
When we did talk, it was nothing but arguing. He still wanted his precious little girl back. I’d heard Angela had found her mate—and that she was one of the strongest warriors in the pack.
Good for her.
I wished I had never agreed to be his chosen mate. People had warned me about him. I didn’t listen. I thought they were jealous, thought they wanted him for themselves.
I should have listened.
I have my own small office now. Roman claimed it was “just for show.” I wasn’t allowed access to any files. If I wanted files, he said, I should make my own.
I thought he was f*****g crazy.
I already had every file he did. I could hack into his computer anytime I wanted. He wouldn’t know a hacker was inside his system even if his life depended on it. I knew exactly how much money the pack had, where it went, how many shares he owned in each company.
I knew everything.
I wasn’t stupid. He might have thought I was—but I was far from it.
Once he was gone, I’d clean this pack up, bit by bit.
Roman POV
It was late when I got home. The lights in the pack house were off, which meant Carrie was already asleep. I had missed her—more than I wanted to admit—but she wouldn’t let me get near her anymore. Not after the way I’d treated her.
I felt a flicker of guilt, brief and unwelcome. This was my pack. I was the alpha. What I said went.
Maybe when I get Angela back, Carrie could be my mistress. I could give her a room right next to ours. I’d go to her when Angela refused me. That was only fair, wasn’t it?
Unless Carrie refused altogether.
If she didn’t accept her place, I had no use for her. I could always banish her from the pack.
I went up to my room, showered, and tried to get some rest. The warrior challenge was only a month away, and I wanted everyone training hard. I needed my warriors to win.
When everyone was busy—focused—that’s when I would take her.
If I had to, I’d drag her back kicking and screaming.
Macey POV
Morning came far too early.
The night before had been amazing. We’d held each other, whispered, laughed—and done things that would make even the deer blush. I was a little sore, but we hadn’t mated. Just explored everything else.
We showered together, careful not to make too much noise, then dried off and got dressed. When we went downstairs, Mom looked at me and smiled. She already knew. Dad, on the other hand, acted like he didn’t notice a thing.
We sat at the table, eating breakfast in comfortable silence.
“Mom, Dad,” I said finally, “I was thinking I’d leave some of my things here. That way, when we visit or spend the night, I’ll already have clothes. If that’s okay with you.”
“Of course, honey. That room will always be yours. You can come and go as you please, sweetheart. Just remember—this will always be your home.”
We finished breakfast and headed outside. Sam was saying goodbye to his friends since his mate was from Rick’s pack. He would be heading out with us and her. Thankfully, he had his own motorcycle.
I climbed onto the back of Rick’s bike. He told me he would teach me how to ride one of his someday so we could ride together. He also reminded me that we’d need to let our wolves out more often to stay strong. I agreed.
I hugged my parents goodbye and told them I’d see them soon. Then we took off down the road. The ride took a few hours, with stops for gas and snacks before getting back on the highway.
When we finally arrived at his pack, we parked and got off the bikes. A man and a woman were already waiting for us. My nerves kicked in instantly—I knew they were his parents.
Rick took my hand and led me toward them, then introduced me.
“Mom, Dad, I’d like you to meet my mate, Macey. Macey, this is my father, Vic, and my mother, Vicky.”
I held out my hand politely.
“Hello, Mr. Vic. Hello, Mrs. Vicky. It’s a pleasure to meet you both.”
“Oh, come on, girl,” his mother laughed. “There’s no need for handshakes. You’re family now.”
She pulled me into a warm hug, followed by his father.
“It’s about time our son found his mate,” Vic said with a smile. “When he told us about you, I didn’t believe it until he sent a mental picture.”
“I’m so happy to finally meet you, honey,” Vicky added. “The ceremony is in a few hours, and we have a lot to do before then.”
She looked me over thoughtfully.
“I heard you don’t like dresses. Would a skirt and a nice shirt work?”
I didn’t want to disappoint them. I really didn’t like dresses—never had. I hated the way they felt on me. But this ceremony was important. I would be becoming Luna.
“Vicky,” I said softly, “I won’t mind wearing a dress this time. It’s a ceremony. I don’t think it’ll hurt just this once.”
She smiled warmly.
“And you don’t need to call me Mrs. Vicky—just Vicky, okay? Come on, I think I have the perfect dress for you.”
She turned to Rick.
“Rick, go get ready. We only have a few hours, and we want this done right. Everyone needs to know they have a new Luna.”
Then she took my hand gently.
“Come on, honey. Let’s get you ready.”
