When my eyes opened, I was on a bed in a hotel room. I blinked twice and jumped up.
I am not dead.
I didn't die?
I checked myself in the mirror before me. Rubbing my head frantically to confirm if there were any scars. Nothing!
I guess whichever deity I prayed to took pity on me and made me reborn. I collapsed on the floor and cried my eyes out. It would have been so unfair dying because of my crazy love for Jeffrey. Dying for a man that didn't deserve it.
But wait! Was everything that happened to me a nightmare or am I truly reborn?
My phone rang. I rushed to pick it up, and a voice came through. “My darling, how is your vacation going?”
That voice… It sounded familiar.
I cleared my throat, and decided to play along. Whoever gave me a second chance to live wants me to live it well and I will not give up this chance.
“It's not going well like I thought it would. I miss you.”
He growled.
His hoarse baritone voice came through again. “I will be with you shortly. I'm closing the deal this evening, so I'll be with you soon.”
Deal? What deal? Who exactly am I speaking with?
“I can't wait for you to be here. I want to fall asleep in your arms.”
“I noticed that you've not used the black card yet. Go shopping. Get yourself whatever you want, my money is all yours!”
I giggled and ended the call.
What is going on? Where am I? What is today's date?
I checked my phone. It was 8th August, 2025. Exactly one month before my wedding anniversary, the day my husband killed me because of his mistress.
That memory pierced my heart, I clutched my chest breathing heavily. There was no ring on my finger, I scrolled through my phone and his number was not saved among my contact list. Yet curiosity got a hold of me, so I dialed his number to confirm if truly it was a dream or that my fate had been changed.
It rang. Someone picked, it was Jeffrey’s voice. He sounded normal like he didn't kill me hours ago. I ended the call and switched off my phone. Figuring out this life and how to live it, is what I should do right now.
So, I died and was reborn into my own skin a month to the day I was killed. What happened to Amelia?
I glanced through the room and caught a MacBook sitting prettily on the dresser, I typed Jeffery's name on the search browser and it popped up.
JEFFERY ANDERSON VINN
The site didn't talk about his marriage or anything. I need to find out what happened to him and Amelia and why there is no news about them.
The door bell rang.
“It's your driver, Ms.”
“Come in,” I gestured for him to come closer. “Look into Jeffery Anderson and his assistant Amelia. I want to know how close they are.”
He nodded and dashed out of the room.
In my past life, Jeffery met Amelia two years ago and started cheating on me with her. There were rumours about them online and people even called them the perfect couple. They said I didn't deserve to be with him because I was an orphan and only wanted his money.
When I got outside, the name of the hotel gave me flashbacks. This is the exact hotel I pleaded with Jeffrey to reserve for our anniversary last year, but he refused claiming I was asking for too much and two days later, he took Amelia here to celebrate their two years relationship. He even gave her a promise ring!
With my driver gone and everything around me looking strange, I flagged a taxi to the shopping mall. I need to get my mind off this for a bit until my driver is back with news.
“Do you need a hand?”
I turned to see who it was. A young girl about my age stood behind me grinning. I nodded.
“Sure.”
She escorted me outside and we had a small chat, I got her contact and we both went out separate ways.
The driver was back. He gave me photos of Jeffrey and Amelia having lunch together at the regular restaurant they used to in my past life. Good! I have to make them get married before the anniversary date. They deserve each other.
“Keep an eye on Amelia. Report everything you notice about her.”
“Yes, Ms.”
The driver left. I freshened up and went to bed. Tomorrow is another day to come up with a plan on how to bring down Jeffery and Amelia, they must pay for killing me.
I woke up to a kiss on my forehead from someone I never expected to cross paths with in my entire life!
ANDERSON VINN
“Anderson?”
“Yes, my darling.”
He pulled me closer to himself and cuddled me under the blanket. My body heats up in excitement.
I'm not supposed to be excited but this right here is bizarre! So, the person I am dating and who spoke to me on the phone is Anderson Vinn, the powerful billionaire in all of Yorkshire.
Anderson Vinn, Jeffery's father?
“I hope you didn't miss me too much?”
I chuckled.
“I did. But you're here now, so I'm fine.”
“You didn't hear when I walked in.”
I nodded.
I never thought in a million years that I'd be laying on Anderson's arms. Over the past six years that I was married to Jeffrey in my past life, I had only come across Anderson once when Jeffrey took me to introduce to his family. Anderson didn't talk much as compared to other fathers, he only asked Jeffrey to take good care of me.
Now, here I am in his arms. Cuddled and caressed by him. A smile flashed across my face, I have more leverage over Jeffery than I thought.
“I want to introduce you to someone. Dress up, let's go meet them.”
I turned to face him while he planted another kiss on my forehead. “You'll know when you see them.”
Walking arm in arm with Anderson Vinn, my eyes rested on Jeffery's eyes. He shifted in his seat, beside him was Amelia.
I smiled crankily.
If Jeffery is still with Amelia, that means my fate has been swapped with another innocent woman who will die on the day of our marriage anniversary just like i died in my past life. Then what about me? What will happen to me if I fail to save the woman and get my revenge?
There’s only one way to find out what will happen. But how will I do that when, I'm yet to understand what is going on around me?
Anderson cleared his throat.
