Chapter 23 The Hut

Ember's POV

I slowly wake up to a loud abrupt sound besides me.. I'm just assuming it's the nurses who keep coming in and out of the room checking up on both of our vitals.. but mostly my mate's. They keep doing what they are suppose too but mostly leaving me be right next to him because I think they have been warned I won't leave. So I just let them do their thing and then they leave after a small moment.

I keep my eyes closed because I'm still exhausted. I feel like I coukd sleep all day.. I'm assuming because of the strenuous fighting and then the medicine along with it just dulling my senses, helping me forget I'm even hurt or in pain. I hear a woman whispering but I can't tell what they are saying or to whom.

Until one person gets mad at the other, you can tell by the aggressiveness in his voice as he responds. "No dumbass you don't want to touch it to your skin! If you have a cut it will kill you.. just make sure it's all over it and take your shot when you know you can properly execute it but you only have one shot." This man loudly whispers to whoever, until I hear some footsteps around the room. I keep a hold on my mate's hand because that's the only thing giving me peice of mind at the moment besides his smell of course like always. I hear shuffling back and forth right next to me.

I try to peak my eyes open to see if I can figure out who is talking and what they are talking about. I can't see anyone so I slowly open my eyes all the way, as I look forward locking my gaze on a livid looking Rose with her hands on her hips.

"Ok so I'm going to give you one last chance to just leave while you still have a fighting chance.. now go and leave my chosen mate alone." She threatens me as I sit up and stare straight into her eyes. Making sure she knows I'm not threatened by her and she knows how serious I am about MY mate.

"The Moon Goddess chose me for Ronan.. not you.. he didnt even want you, he told me and apparently everyone else around that same sentiment, including your father telling him he couldn't even get hard for you.. so I really don't think you have a chance in hell with MY MATE." I say spitefully back to her as I just watch the rage build in her eyes as her face gets redder, showing how mad she is at that comment alone.

"f**k you b***h! You're just a disgusting little weak human who got lucky killing those vampires along with almost killing your mate and our King.. nothing to be proud of, you're no match for a pack of wolves. Get the f*#k out before I make you leave." She spats at me with so much anger laced in every single word but it doesn't effect me at all.. I'm not scared of her because if she honestly thought I got lucky fighting those vampires then she will be in for a big suprise if she tries to take me on by herself right now.

"I'd like to see you try to make me leave.. bitch." I say emphasizing the last words mocking her name calling as she gets mad and nods at someone I think behind me.. but before I can even turn to see who it is I feel cords quickly wrap around my neck holding me back against the chair trapping me on it so I can't get out. I wedge my fingers in between the cords and my neck to try to relieve some of the pressure but it's doesn't work at all really.

Rose has a smug satisfied look on her face at me in this vulnerable situation as she gets closer to my face by leaning down and saying. "This is what you get for trying to take my chosen mate that was going to give me the only thing I have ever wanted and that's to be queen.. I don't care if he wants me, because he is going to get me.. I'm getting rid of the one obstacle in the way of the one thing I want and need.. and that's you.. You're unwanted and in my way.. You don't feel so tough now do you.." I knee her in the gut with my good leg as she groans hunches over as I kick her right in the face breaking her nose at direct impact.

"Ronan wants me and I want him that's all that matters to us." I state to her as the cords tighten more around my neck making me gag under the pressure so I use my open hand to try to get the person behind me to stop pulling.. But I can't even reach the person, I go to my next idea trying ro pull the cords out of whomever's hands but that doesn't work either.. So I wedge my other hand under the cords so I have both under it now, trying to help pry it from my neck so I can get a breath in.

I gasp for air as I watch Rose get up and grab something from behind her back but I can't tell what it is since everything is getting a little blurred.. I think I'm about to lose consciousness as I gasp for air. I feel my chest tightening from the loss of air as my lungs do the same.

Rose stumbles up to me holding her bleeding nose with one hand and the other has something in it. I try to kick her but miss multiple times and when I do finally make contact it doesn't have much force behind it with me feeling so weak at this point.

"F*#k you, mate stealing cunt.. but not today bitch.. not today." She stabs me in the leg with a knife in the same open wound from earlier. I groan in pain as loud as I can using the last bit of air I have in my lungs.

My eyes can't stay open any longer as I feel myself going in and out of consciousness. I can hear grunting and loud crashing around me as the cords loosen around my neck and I fall to the ground with my eyes slowly closing as I fight the darkness trying to keep them open. But it doesn't work and before I even know what's happening, I give into the darkness just hoping to see some light at the end if this very dark tunnel.

Ronan's POV

I relax completely outside on the mountain top, with my wolf at my side under the cover of darkness until I can feel myself give in completely to the darkness. After who knows how long I can hear more and more sounds surrounding me, gaining my attention.

I can feel myself coming back to consciousness slowly but surely. I can smell Ember's amazing scent filling my senses, so I know she is here which makes me feel some type of relief at that thought alone.

I hear two indistinct angry voices arguing back and forth. I can't hear what's being said but it doesn't sound good by the tone being used by both people.. but it also sounds like my mate.. and who knows who else.. I hear an impact and groaning sounding like someone got hurt.. I bet my mate is putting someone in their place once again I can only hope it's not any of my family.

My eyes flutter open as I blink multiple times trying to adjust to the lighting in the room just to figure out where I am and who is around me..

That is until I hear right besides me in a very malicious tone, telling me who is arguing with my mate now without even looking to confirm.. it's Rose. "F*#k you, mate stealing cunt.. but not today bitch.. not today." I hear a loud groaning of pain and it sounds like Ember. This worries me instantly since I can now smell blood. My eyes flip all the way open in alert to my surroundings, trying to figure out exactly what's happening.

I'm shocked at the sight before me it's Alpha Doogans trying to strangle my mate with the cords from the machines I'm hooked up to, as I think Rose stabbed her in the leg. Ember is trying to fight them off on her own even being injured which is making things so much harder for herself.

I'm weak but I can't just sit here, so I press the help button calling for the nurses and hopefully more than that. I grab hold of my cords and pulling the Alpha, who doesn't even know I'm awake straight into the machine he is trying to use as a weapon on my mate, that's right next to him.

He let's go of the cords so I unwrap them from around Ember's neck as I quickly flip then wrap them around his neck and pull so hard giving him a taste of his own medicine. I watch Ember slip off of the chair then fall to the ground looking unconscious and this makes my heart drop at that sight, just wanting to help her.

I see Rose trying to take advantage of her unconscious state, walking up to her as I kick Rose straight to the face and knocking her out, falling abruptly to the floor besides Ember on the floor. I won't let her do anything to my mate, if I can help it.

The room soon gets filled with my Beta, Gamma, brother, sister, mother and three nurses quickly because of all the sounds coming from the room and the calling for assistance of course. I'm fighting the Alpha but hurting from my recent wound as they all stare at the scene not knowing what to do or how to react.

I groan in pain straining myself as I yell, "Alpha Doogans and Rose were trying to kill Ember.. arrest them, taking them to the dungeons and help her.. make sure she is ok!" I demand as everyone jumps into action helping me out as soon as they can.

Roary and Sean restrain the Alpha and taking him away as the girls bring a stretcher and roll Rose away on it. Another nurse joins us as she turns Ember over to her back. She leans in putting her ear to her mouth listening for her breathing.. then putting her fingers to her neck and trying to take a pulse. I hild my breathe waiting in anticipation, looking down from the bed above her.

"She is breathing and has a heartbeat I think she just got knocked unconscious from everything." she informs me as she curiously reaches to touch the blade hilt thats sticking out of Embers leg.

"Don't you dare touch that knife! Step away now!" Sean's mother, the main pack doctor demands of the nurse as she gets a startled look on her face as she steps away. "Who did this to her?" She demands as I fill her in. "Alpha Doogan was trying to strangle her with the cords as Rose stabbed her in the leg." I inform her as she gasps.

"Oh no they stabbed her already open wound... no no no." she says pacing around the room. scaring the hell out of me as I feel my heart race rapidly as if I have been running a marathon.

"Tell me what is wrong." I demand from her as she turns to me looking caught off guard as if she forgot I was right here and was lost in her thoughts.

"Um.. ok.. so I know that powder substance that's around her wound and on the blade from anywhere.. not from ever seeing it in person myself but because of studying it.. It's an ancient plant that was used many years ago as a weapon mistakenly by an unfortunate result of mistaking the leaves of one commonly grown shrubby evergreen.. the cherry laurel, whose foliage is naturally rich in the poison cyanide.. for those of another – the culinary or bay laurel.. Laurus nobilis. But then again, perhaps it wasn’t accidental.." She explains staring at me as my mouth drops open at what I do understand about that.

"So your telling me they put poison into her by stabbing her?" I ask waiting for confirmation. "Yes but they put it into her open wound. She already had that wound from her fight earlier and they put the poison directly into her blood stream. Making it effect her way faster than anticipated." She tries to explain stammering through with panic in her voice.

"So what do we do for her?!" I yell wanting her to just get to the point because I'm getting impatient really quickly. "I.. I.. have only heard of this type of substance being lethal almost 98 percent of the time except.." She says pausing and nervously staring at me as I demand in my Alpha tone. "Except what?!"

She shivers at my tone as she responds, "Except I have only heard of stories, I don't know if they are true or not, but that there are some remedies used with the help of light magic saving victims but we don't have anyone in the pack with light magic.. I'm so sorry sir." She looks guilty and so sad is if she wants to get but can't.

"The fae.." I say in realization of what the Moon Goddess warned me about. "What are you talking about?" My brother asks me as they all stare in my direction, with confusion evident across their faces.

"In my unconscious dream the Moon Goddess came to me and warned me that I needed to go to the cabin they have always warned us to stay away from.. and get that fae's help." I say to them as my mother completely objects, "No faes cannot be trusted and you know this."

I put my hand up stopping her objections as I stand up slowly out of the bed. "The Moon Goddess told me I needed to protect my family with my mate as much as I can by going outside of our packlands and to the fae to get this LIGHT FAES HELP!" I say to them as they all look back and forth between each other.

"Roary, Sean, and Brendan come with me because I don't think I can carry her on my own and I might need help defending her. If this is poison that means we have to act quick or she will die and I can't have that this is my family this is my mate and my child! She told me that I had to protect my mate because she is pregnant and holds my child.. I won't let them die!" I tell them so they know where I'm at mentally and how serious I am about this.

"Yes Alpha we can go whenever your ready.. We will do our best to save your family." Roary says as he bows along with Brendan and Sean bowing with him. My mother and sister don't object and the doctor looks worried for me as she nods. "Yes Alpha this is you're only chance then I guess.. if the moon goddess says you should do this for your mate, giving you the answers you need, then I would do it but just be careful you need to go fast and faes are tricky be careful sir." She warns then bowing to me as I rip the IV's out of my arm not having enough time to wait for assistance. I pull my shorts off then shift into Cormac. Roary, Brenden and Sean follow my lead doing the same by stripping then shifting into their wolves right next to me as the doctor puts Ember on Sean's back, strapping her to him. We pick up the shorts into our mouths given to us by my sister as we look back and forth between each other making sure we are all ready.

Let's go.. now

I mind link them as we take off down the hallway, then to the stairs and out of the building. We don't know the exact location of the cabin that we have to find but we have just been told of a round about area to stay clear from over the years.

We trail across the dried leaves that have fallen all over our lands.. they crunch loudly because we're not even trying to be sneaky just as fast as possible to get to our destination.

So we quickly make it through our lands and towards the general area we know it's in. We run for a little while searching and finding nothing. We search more in other areas and still nothing.. It has been known to be hard to find but I didn't think it would be this hard to the point of impossible.

I'm getting frustrated and exhausted at this point feeling as if we are just going in circles. I roar out in frustration, abruptly stopping on the drop of a dime.

What do we do?! I need to save them! and we can't seem to find anything.. not one sign of a cabin over here.

I yell at my men, not because of anything they they done just out of completely frustration feeling like a failure when this is the one time I need to make sure to succeed

Alpha.. behind us.

Roary says as I quickly flip around to see a very small hut that's covered in grass and branches almost completely covering it like camouflage. I don't know how we didn't see it before even with it being so hidden. I know I ran past that area before and didn't see any of that.. there is no way this cabin just popped up out of no where but that's the only explanation if why we didn't see it when we were over here earlier..

I drop my shorts on the ground as I shift back into my human form. Slipping on my shorts as I make my way to the hut. I cautiously approach the front door looking all around for any sign of a threat or maybe trap around and I don't see anything that will alarm me.. not yet at least.
