Meikah looked from Harlen to Kellan several times before shaking her head. She didn’t want them fighting. That wouldn’t end well. She forced her lips into a smile. “I’ll see you in the morning when we visit the Duke.”
Kellan held her gaze a moment longer before inclining his head.
Looking over her shoulder, as Harlen tugged her back towards the castle, she saw that Kellan watched her as she walked away. She tried to smile reassuringly, but he didn’t return her smile, only continued to watch her with his hand resting on the hilt of his sword.
Stumbling, she faced forward, glancing over her shoulder when she felt mist brush her cheek. This time the smile came more easily when she saw Kellan followed at a distance. She wanted to tell him she was fine, but didn’t want to draw
