Chapter 59

The watchers knew what it was that the king wanted them to talk about before the two ladies could be presented before him. One of the watchers then said to the king, "The plan remains the plan and has not changed has it? If we have not changed the initial plan then it is still what we are planning to do and nothing else. What this means is that it is time for us to show our prowess in making sure that Adere comes to this land. I have sensed that the ancient beast might attack this part of the land any moment from now and we need to hurry with any plan that we have to ensure that Adere comes to us and do for us what we have been begging the gods of Abah land to do for us." The king of Abah sighed and looked up to see Adere's mother being brought in to stand before him. He cleared his throat and then began to speak, "Well, here they are and I am about to clear their confusion. I am aware that both of you are from the land of Zinu or am I wrong in this?" Adere's mother looked at the king for a while and then started laughing. The king could not understand the reason behind her laughter and then he adjusted himself on his throne and kept watching the lady. After some times the woman stopped laughing and then the king who was not sure if there was something that he said that made him laugh then said, "I do not know if you are laughing at me or with me but whatever prompted you to laugh just now believe me it has nothing to do with why you are here. I am the king of Abah land and my duty is to do whatever it takes to secure the lives of my people" "Is that so; Are you sure you are not lying about this?" asked Mori and one of the King's guards moved to strick the Mori but the king raised his hand to stop him and then he stood up and walked up to them, standing infront of them the first person he spoke to was Mori, "Young lady, you sound like you know things. I like people that know things without being told. I see people that know things in their spirit without being told that actually they know what they had to know for the sake of their gods that guide them. Okay, having said this I have one thing that I must suggest a done of those things is that I am not willing to do whatever it is that it takes to allow things to work out for us. Okay, right now what we have to do is to start from you my dear, tell me what you meant by what you have just said to my hearing" The king wanted Mori to explain what she meant by what she said but Mori who said it was no longer sure if she was the one that said it. She looked sideways and kept wondering if all was well with her. At some point what crossed her mind was the very thing that had happened to her in the past; she felt that she was going to faint and she knew that if she ever fainted right before the king she would be exposing Adere's mother to loneliness. She stood her ground and refused to say one more word. But the king was not comfortable with her silence and so he said to her, "Are you going to keep me waiting before you repeat what you have said in the past. Do you now want to bring me to a point where I will be forced to punish you young lady?" asked the king. "What i said was whether you are sure of what you are doing, whether you are not aware that you are responsible for what is happening to you. I am no longer going to be able to remember all that I said but atleast..."she was still trying to clarify him when the king gave her a dirty slap across the face and Mori held her cheek and reared in pains. She did not speak further but chose to be silent. The king then turned to the woman standing before him; Adere's mother and spoke to her, "It is not you that I need but your son. Well, having seen what you acted just recently and what this young lady said not long ago I am no longer moved to think that this whole thing does not concern you both but your son but truth be told I am now as concerned with you just as much as I am concerned with your son. I heard of what his name is. I heard of who he is from the watchers of Abah and I know that as his mother and before now you must have known who he is, you must have noticed that he is special. Oh yes I am telling you now that he is special and he is not just special but he is known to be he one who will bring a lasting peace to this land which I rule. Your son is whom I need but I would like to know you the more before I know your son. You are going to go back to the cell where the watchers had kept you and expect me to pay you a visit soon" the king then signaled his men and they grabbed Adere's mother and Mori and took them back to the cell room. One of the watchers who was so eager to know why the king of Abah chose to do what he did stepped forward infront of the king and then said to him, "I would like to ask; what exactly is wrong with this whole thing, this whole plan of ours? You have sent them back into the cell. If this is what it is for now then we the watchers will have to retire to our own domain and wait on your call. We have to" the king had to pardon them after he had tried his best to make them realise just how much what they did meant to him. The watchers then left the palace and the prime minister with the Chief Adviser walked up to the king and standing before him they said, "We are willing to know your next line of action and just tell us what you would like us to do for you" This was not what it would seem to the rest of them for they had not expected their king to behave in the manner in which he behaved but they were sure that whatever it was that he did he had a good reason for doing it. **** Edu was was heading to the aboard of the watchers of the land of Abah. He was riding on a horse that he stole from a trader who was heading to the land of Akuzu for business. The trader was an elderly man who jumped out of the bush where he had gone to ease himself and kept shouting on top of his voice in order to stop him, all to no avail. He had sat down and cried bitterly. While he cried it was then that Adere and Renu heard someone cry and decided to head carefully to the place where the crying was coming from. When they got there they saw that the person that was seated on the ground over there was none other person but an old man whose tears were profuse. They stood there looking at him until the man narrated to them the person that took his horse away from him. "He speaks of none other person but Edu. Edu took the horse away from him" said Renu. What baffled Adere was why Edu would do such a thing. He did not want to waste any more time contemplating on why Edu did what but instead said to the elderly man, "Listen, Akuzu is no longer far from here, infact you can take the road behind you and instead of sitting here and wasting your time with tears it would be better for you to head straight to the land of Akuzu and when you get there you can talk to the men of that town, surely they will give you a horse. The land of Akuzu is known to be filled with good and kind people. When they see you they will be kind to you. You will not need to fear them when you see them instead you should be filled with joy and all kinds of elation. Go on and do not sit here like a child who just lost his parents to an accident" The words of Adere comforted the man and he was sure that whoever Adere was he was a typical representer of the truth which says that King People Still Exist. The man then left them and took the path that was heading straight to the land of Akuzu. Adere kept looking at him and Renu said to him, "You know, there was some thoughts that crossed my mind during the time that your saved my brother that year. You see, I was imagining if your father could be our king in Zinu. I could not bring myself to believe that the king of Zinu at that time did not do anything for a man who not only rescued someone from danger but almost sacrificed himself to do that. I expected the king of Zinu, having seen how viral the news had gone to do what he was supposed to do not to neglect your father. And now when I look at you, especially having seen what you just did here I am moved to believe that there are things which you do that requires only your kind to deserve it. I have seen how you talked to that man and made him feel better. I mean someone else, another man made him feel terrible and broke him down with his wicked approach to him but here you put back that smile on his face and made him to have his hope restored. I am so glad and this gives me the hope to believe that one day everything will be alright. I am learning from you each passing day, hoping that you will always find a way to make me believe in you always. Thanks for what you just did for that man, if not for anything but for bringing him another reason to smile" Renu began to walk away having said these words emotionally. Adere stood there for a while, thinking of all that Renu said to him and a smile caught his lips and he began to move too. **** Inside the cell where Adere's mother with Mori were Adere's mother said, "I want you to believe in yourself and do not think that we are going to be made to suffer what you suffered in the hands of that diviner" "Yes, you are right, I have been kept in the day in the past for too long to get familiar with darkness. I am not afraid of darkness instead I embrace it. I am not afraid of the situation at hand for I believe so much in myself, knowing that there is nothing that can stop me. I am now going to allow things to flow the way that they are supposed to flow. I think that I have grown to love you and that is why I hate to call you any other thing aside my mother. You gave birth to someone that is going to bring back honor in this world. I have said it before and I am saying it again that there is something about your son that will not only bring you honor but will bring honor to one of the most devasted lands in the world, the land of Zinu. Let me continue to tell you the story of how I was able to escape from the hands of the diviner and how it was my father who came and took me away from the cave where I had already fallen unconscious. This may sound like I am not serious enough but let be permitted to say that you have not gotten to the point of the story where I have been trying to drive you to"
