LETS PLAY LOVE

CHAPTER THREE

After the meeting Christian stayed back, he allowed Cooper to leave while he sat in his office thinking of what his father spoke about, he didn’t notice everyone had left, he stared outside the window to the streetlights of the city that painted the streets of Manhattan gold, he heard someone open the door so he turned and found the janitor waiting, he got up from his chair switched off his computer, he picked up his phone and took his suite from the wall hanger before walking out the door. While taking the elevator down, he sends a text to Garry telling him that he would be out in a minute. Garry had the car waiting at the entrance of the building by the time Christian was out, twenty minutes later he was at his penthouse building, he got out of the car and walked into the lobby, he walks straight pass the receptionist and taps the elevator button, he takes the elevator to his flat and walks in to a destroyed apartment, Gina had torn all his pillows and broken a few wine glasses, she used lipstick on his white marble walls and left a ‘f**k you’ note on his bed. He turned around and took the elevator down, he tells the receptionist to get a cleaning agency to clean up his room, he then goes outside and takes a taxi to a hotel where he spent the night.

The next morning he woke up to his phones ringing, he had forgotten to tell Garry he wasn’t sleeping at the penthouse and Caleb had called him a few times to find out where he was, he picked his phone and answered it, he told Caleb the address of the hotel and when he would be at the office. Christian took his shower and wore a robe he found his clothes on a hanger by the door, room service also brought him breakfast, an omelet and a fruit bowl with a glass of orange juice, he took his clothes and got dressed, he drank the orange juice and took a strawberry from the fruit bowl before leaving. He took the elevator to the lobby and walked out the hotel, he waited for a minute before the car pulled over in front of him, Cooper gets out and opened his door, he thanks him and climb’s into the car, they drive to the office and Christian goes in and as he walks to his desk Caleb tells him his activities for the day, he seats behind his desk and thanked Caleb before he left.

He busied himself that morning by reading through documents and making phone calls by lunch he was exhausted and hungry, he takes his coat and tells Caleb his going out for lunch, he walks out of the building and tells Garry he could have the day of, he took the keys from him and got into the car, as Christian drives cruised through Manhattan he shifts focus from his phone to the road, he was passing the Manhattan post building when he heard a loud horn, instinctively he steps on the breaks screeching the tires, the horn came from a truck behind him that wanted to him to drive faster, Christian parks the car by the sidewalk and takes a minute to breathe, he looks at the side mirror and sees Milly walk out the building and waits for a taxi in front of the building, he sat in the car and just stared at her but this time he really smile, he watched her get into a taxi and drive away, he switched on his car and followed behind. He drove behind them at a distance until the taxi stopped in front of the children’s hospital he remained in the car and watched Milly go into the building, be sat there and thought for a few seconds before driving away. He drives to back to his office and sits behind his desk, Michael notices him and goes and meets him, and he knocked twice on the wooden frame drawing Christian’s attention.

‘’ everything all right?’’ Michael asked.

‘’ yes everything is just fine why’’ Christian replied. Michael goes into the office and shuts the door behind him. ‘’how are things with Gina?’’

Christian chuckled and replied. ‘’she literally flipped my penthouse’’

‘’ seriously?’’

‘’yes, and left a note on my bed that said ‘f**k you.’’

‘’ You did know she was crazy, you liked her for it, so what now ‘’

‘’ I don’t know I guess I’ll just focus on work, hopefully that would change my father’s mind’’

‘’ you know it won’t’’

‘’Yes but it’s a good distraction’’

‘’ but for how long, you need to find someone to marry quick before you time runs out’’

‘’well it’s not like I can just go out and buy someone to marry me’’

‘’ I’m sure you really wish you could though right’’

Christian pauses for a moment and thinks to himself he looks at Michael and asked. ‘’ do you remember the reporter I told you about’’

‘’ I saw her today, a few minutes ago in fact ‘’

‘’ and?’’

‘’ I followed her’’

‘’you followed her, why?’’

‘’ the first time she blew me off she was going somewhere, I offered her a ride but she refused so while I was parked outside their building, I see her come out and get into a taxi so I followed the taxi’’

‘’ wait you didn’t follow her because she said no to you right ‘’

Christian remained silent.

‘’ oh come on dude why can’t you just simply take no for an answer you’re not everyone’s type you know.’’ Michael says to Christian.

‘’ that’s how I know you’re a lair mike’’

‘’ so where did she go’’

‘’ uhm… a children’s hospital’’

‘’ Whoa ‘’

‘’I know’’

‘’do you think she has a child?’’

‘’ I guess I’ll just have to find out, do you still have that PI on speed dial?’’

‘’ sure, I’ll need a name’’

Christian pushes button on the office landline and calls Caleb, he asked him for the name of the reporter and after a short research of yesterday’s logs with his IPad he tells them the name Mary Reynolds, Michael types it into his phone and get up from the chair and walks out the office. He returns his focus to the work he had on his computer, he spent hours on it and eventually got it done, he ended his day and went home.

As he walked through the lobby the receptionist gave him a bill from the cleaning service, and a list of thins the replaced, he signed it and thanked her before taking the elevator to his flat. He surveyed the penthouse and inspected the job, he was pleased at the result. He took his clothes off and walked into the shower that turns on using sensors, after taking his shower Christian goes to the kitchen and makes himself dinner.

The next morning was the same for Milly, she picked up her coffee and went to work. She walked through the elevator and followed a memorized path to her desk where she sat down and placed her phone on her desk and logged in to her computer, she continued her previous research. She began writing an article based on the research when George called her to his office, he gave her credit for the work she had been doing and offered her a raise, she showed her gratitude and thanked George before excusing herself from the office, she grabbed Lisa’s hand and dragged her to the restroom and told her the news, that night they celebrated.

The weekend was Milly’s best time of the week, not because of the break from work but because it meant she could spend the whole day with Austin, they would often take trips to the zoo and watch the animals together, she loved seeing her son smile. And during the evening when the return she would lay with him and sing till he falls asleep beside her. She snuck out of his bed and left that Saturday night, but before she could get passed the door she broke down into tears, the doctor had told her that her Austin’s immune system was failing and that he wouldn’t have much time if he goes without treatment, he would need to be transferred to more advanced medical centre, the news broke her, she sat in the halls of the hospital and cried till she had no tears left, then she got up and went home, she locks the door and drags her feet to the bedroom where she lets body collapse on the bed and asleep.
