*Enzo’s POV*
How was I going to tell Grey?
What do you say to your best friend after you’ve stolen the girl you knew he liked more than anything? I was more than aware of how strong Grey’s feelings were for Celine, and that didn’t stop me.
I wanted her, which meant I had to have her. In my mind that made sense and was right, but I knew it wasn’t. It was selfish and a kind of big betrayal. I hoped Grey would forgive me. He would see how different I was. How loving Celine had completely changed me.
If I could ever find the right words to tell him.
I should tell him before we start traveling again. It will give him the whole day to cool off and hopefully by tonight he would have forgiven me.
“You seem nervous, Alpha Enzo,” Pierce commented.
“I have to tell Beta Grey something and I don’t know how,” I sighed.
“Ah. The whole Celine thing.”
“What do you mean?”
“You and Celine are in love and now you're together so you have to tell your best friend that the reason she ended things with him was because of you.” Pierce stated.
I gaped at him. “How did you know that?”
“I know a lot of things that I’m not supposed to. Including Celine’s angelic secret.”
“She told you about that?”
“I knew she wasn’t just some wolfless wolf. She’s special.”
“Yeah, she really is.” I smiled. “I mean have you ever met another person like her?”
“I can honestly say that I haven’t,” Pierce chuckled. “You really love her, don’t you?”
“Yeah, I do. She’s everything to me. I would do anything for her.”
“Don’t die for her, Alpha Enzo. She won’t recover.”
I nodded. “Yeah, I guess I need to be a little less reckless and crazy when it comes to protecting her.”
“She needs to do the same,” Pierce grinned.
“Try telling her that.”
“Beta Grey will understand Alpha Enzo. He will realize how real and true this love between you and Celine is and he will realize that he and Celine were never meant to be.”
“You really think so?”
“I actually do.” Pierce nodded.
“Um, thanks, Pierce. I think I really needed to have this conversation.”
“You are very welcome. You let me know when you’re ready to continue our journey.”
“Will do.” I walked off to find Grey. It was much too easy to find him.
“Hey, Enzo, have you seen Celine?” Grey walked up to me.
“Um, no. I need to talk to you.” I said.
“About Celine?”
“Yes.”
He sighed and nodded. We went to my room.
“Is this about what I said to Celine yesterday? I was just being honest! I’m not like harassing her or anything, I just think she needs to realize how serious I am about her. I really do believe I love her-”
“She’s my girlfriend.” I blurted out.
“What?” Grey asked. “What do you mean?”
“Celine and I realized we had deep feelings for each other-that we were in love actually and now we’re together.”
“And when did you realize this?” I couldn’t answer. “While I was with her?”
“Um…yeah kind of.”
“So that’s why she ended things with me? Because of you? Because you kissed her?”
I should just put it all out on the table. I didn’t want him to find out some other way.
“It was more than just kissing,” I whispered. “We…made love.”
Grey looked like he was going to be sick. “How could you? Not even to me, but Celine!”
“What do you mean?”
“You took her virginity while you had a girlfriend, Enzo! And you took it knowing that it wouldn’t mean the same thing to you both.”
“It did mean the same thing!” I insisted.
“No, it didn’t. Celine was saving that for someone she cared deeply for. For someone who loved her.”
“I do love her!”
“You don’t believe in love, Enzo!” Grey snapped. “Do you hear yourself right now? You have said for years that love is stupid and it doesn’t exist and then you find this beautiful, perfect, innocent woman and suddenly you believe in it? I call bullshit.”
“It’s not bullshit!” I said defensively. “I love Celine.”
“For now sure. While you’re getting what you want out of her. And then when you’re bored of s*x what are you going to do? Toss her aside like you do every other girl. You will have ruined an amazing woman and for what?”
“That isn’t true and I don’t have to prove myself to you. Celine knows my feelings are real!”
“Celine doesn’t know any better. She sees the good in everyone, somehow even you. So of course she’s convinced herself that the lies you’re telling her are true. That you do love her and respect her and what you two did was more than just sex.”
“It was, Grey okay? Look, I’m sorry, I really am. I should have never gotten involved with Celine when she was seeing you, but I love her, okay? I really love her and that’s why I did it. I’m in love with her.” I explained. “I didn’t mean to hurt you.”
“You didn’t care if you did. You never care about anyone other than yourself. You are the most selfish person I have ever met in my life. Ever since your parents-”
“Watch it Grey!”
“Or what? Are you gonna banish me from the pack? At this point I would welcome it! You are not the man I have convinced myself that you are. Or the one you’ve convinced Celine that you are. I thought you were my best friend.”
“I am! I ugh-I told you not to date her Grey. I told you I didn’t approve of it and you still went and did it.” I pointed out.
“So that warrants you taking Celine from me? You saw that I was happy and you felt you had to ruin that for me? That if you weren’t happy no one could be.”
Was this really how Grey felt about me? He thought I was someone who set out to ruin other people’s happiness including my best friend's?
I never thought I was that cruel.
“It wasn’t like that, Grey, I swear. I just had never felt this way before and I had to have her.” I said quietly.
“Well, I’m glad you got her. Even if it was at my expense. I had one thing, Enzo. One amazing, beautiful thing and you snatched it away from me.” Grey shook his head. “I hope you really do love her after all you’re ruining to have her.”
He started to leave. “Wait! Please don’t be mad at Celine. She really didn’t want to hurt you and she cares deeply about you.”
“At least someone does.”
*Celine’s POV*
“Where is Enzo?” I asked Pierce. “We must get going!”
“What’s wrong?”
“Sela is once again in danger! One of the men she’s trying to decide between is The Depraved Fiend!”
“What? Why do you think that?” Pierce questioned.
“Her friend Jane did some reading and discovered that the way for The Depraved Fiend to get Sela’s powers was to have her allegiance through love. So if she chooses him over every other man he can take her powers.”
“Yes, we should get going now.”
He hurried off to get the other Bonepikes ready.
I went in search of Enzo to tell him.
I ran into Grey in the process. “Hi Grey, have you seen Enzo?”
“I just talked to you boyfriend.”
“Grey-”
“You know what, I’m not even mad at you Celine, I’m just worried.”
“About what?”
“Giving your heart to a man like Enzo isn’t a good idea. You’ve seen how he is with women. He will break your heart, Celine.”
“No he won’t. He does really love me, Grey.” I insisted.
“You’re too good of a person sometimes. I hope you’re right, but babe if you’re not…I’ll still be here. I know we can still have something if he’s out of the picture.”
“I am right.”
“Be careful with him, Celine.” He kissed my cheek and walked away.
Enzo approached me. “Well looks like he’s not mad at you.”
“No, but he’s pretty furious with you.” I said.
“Yeah, he really let me have it. I’ve never seen Grey so angry.” Enzo frowned. “I hope he’ll forgive me.”
“I’m sure when he sees how in love we are he will.”
“Yeah, maybe. Let’s go.”
I packed up my bag and went outside. I spotted Mira talking to Luc and waved.
She made her way over to me. I wondered how things were progressing with her and Luc.
“How’s it going, Mira?” I smiled.
I realized she didn’t look happy. I gasped as she slapped me across the face.
“What was that for?” I cried.
“For f*****g my boyfriend you slut!”
