A Failure

I should just go back home. Maybe it was better that way. Sure I would be sent to hell, but at least I could spend my last two months at the Sanctum with my friends. I could maybe finally find out what it’s like to make love with Sander. I could try to fit a whole life into two months so that when it was time for damnation, I would at least feel like I had enjoyed my time before it was all over. As Enzo had said this was a waste of time. He was never going to fall in love and I was never going to get my white wings. I was a horrible failure and everyone would know it for all eternity. I was going to be the first angel sent to The Infernal Planes. At least I was making history, I guess. I decided to leave after breakfast. I really liked the food. “Good morning, Celine,” Mira smiled. “Morning Mira. Paz and Irene, good to see you.” “How are you?” Paz asked. “We heard about the attack. It feels like you’re always in danger.” “Yeah, it does seem that way, doesn’t it? Well, it won’t happen anymore, I’m leaving.” “What? Why?” Mira asked. “I just don’t think I belong here. I’m…wasting my time I think.” “But what about your mission?” Irene questioned. “It doesn’t seem like I can complete it. I failed, I’m sorry Mira. I know I was supposed to help you with Alpha Ezno…but I don’t think I can.” Mira sighed. “It’s okay, Celine. You did your best. A-and who knows, maybe it can still work out for me and him. We’re getting along.” “I sure hope so.” I smiled. “You deserve love.” “You do too.” I chuckled. “I don’t think it’ll ever happen for me.” “Where will you go?” Paz asked. “I thought you lost your pack.” “I’ll figure it out, I guess.” I shrugged. “Well we wish you all the luck…things will suck really badly without you, Celine.” Irene admitted. “Really?” “You bring a certain lightness to this pack,” Paz stated. “We’ll miss it.” “Thanks. I’ll miss you too,” I reached in my pack and pulled out a few vials. “This is ‘forget me dust’ it will help with the Hellions. It will keep you safe.” “Thank you, Celine.” Mira hugged me. “I’ll never forget you.” “I won’t forget you guys either.” -- “Celine! Celine!” I turned and saw Grey hurrying over to me. “Oh, hi Grey. I’m glad you’re here, I wanted to say good-bye.” “Wait what? Where are you going?” “Back home I guess. I tried to make this work, Grey, but it won’t. I wanted to thank you for being so nice to me. You’re very sweet and I wish I could spend more time with you.” “Celine, don’t go,” He whispered. “W-we can spend more time together if you stay. I-I don’t want you to leave. I like you.” I smiled. “I like you too, Grey. But, Enzo doesn’t want me here and I only have so much time to enjoy life and that’s what I want to do. This was great though. You taught me a lot about myself…and fighting.” “You taught me a lot too. And you…made me smile every single day.” “You really do have a beautiful heart, Grey.” “You do too, Celine. I’m gonna miss you so much.” He reached out and hugged me tightly. I kissed his cheek before pulling away. “Bye, Grey.” I went to my chambers and packed up my things. I really was going to miss being a Bloodrose Bane. It might have been the highlight of my life. I threw my bag over my shoulder and started heading to the forest. I still had to protect my secret and make sure no one knew I was an angel. I was almost far enough when I heard footsteps running behind me. I whipped around and was shocked to see a white wolf chasing after me. He transformed in front of me and there was Enzo, shirtless and breathing heavily. “What are you doing?” I asked. “Where are you going?” He huffed. “Back to the Sanctum.” “Why?” “Because you said I was going to hell. I don’t want to spend my last two months of life trying to make something happen that won’t. Like you said, this was a waste of time.” I sighed. “f**k, Celine, I’m sorry.” He rubbed his face. “I just…I was frustrated and I took that out on you.” “That may be the case, but Enzo, you said you’re never going to fall in love. If that’s the case, there’s no reason for me to be here anymore. I’m going to spend my last two months with people who want me around.” “I-I do want you around, Celine.” “No you don’t! You hate me Enzo! You hate when I smile and laugh and you think I’m naive and stupid! So I don’t want to stay here with you anymore. I tried to help you, Enzo, that’s all I ever did and you just...you treat me like dirt.” “It’s just how I am.” Enzo sighed. “And I’m supposed to sit here and take that? I understand that your life isn’t easy and you’ve had a horrible example of love. But…I can’t help someone who doesn’t want help. So, while I’ve loved my time here, I’m done.” “Please, Celine…don’t…don’t go.” “Why?” I asked. “Give me one good reason why I shouldn’t just fly off.” “Because I will change! I promise, I will try to be better and I will fall in love with Mira.” “And why would you do that?” “I don’t want you to go to hell. You’re the nicest person I know, you don’t deserve that.” He breathed. “I don’t know if I believe you, Enzo. I don’t want to spend these next two months trying to get you to fall in love and fail again. I’ve failed six times already.” “No, you didn’t.” “Yes, I did! I’ve failed to find you a real mate six times and I’m going to fail for the seventh now!” I cried. “Celine, I failed! I’m the failure, okay? It’s my fault the mates didn’t work out. I’m picky and mean and conceited. You did your job well and I f****d it up okay? It’s not you, it’s me. So please stay.” “Don’t people usually say that when they want to leave someone?” I asked. “Yeah, probably,” He smiled slightly. “Don’t go, Celine.” I felt the tingle in my body. He really didn’t want me to go. That must mean that he really was ready to actually try with me. That maybe we could make this work. But would I take that risk? It was literally life or death at this point. “Actually, forget I said that,” Enzo stated. “I don’t want you to stay because I’m making you. I want you to stay because you want to and believe that I can fall in love.” I sighed and let my bag slide down to the ground. “Okay…I’ll stay.” “Really?” “I’ve never seen you beg before, so I believe you. I’ll stay. But Enzo please…promise me you’ll try your hardest, okay?” I asked. “I swear Celine, I will give my all to this. But that means you have to help me with Alpha Rafe. Can we agree on that?” Enzo questioned. “Okay, deal.” A smile came across his handsome face as he leaned down to pick up my bag. I smiled back as we started walking back to the packhouse together. When we got on the grounds, I saw Grey hurrying over to us. “Celine, you’re still here!” He hugged me tightly. “Enzo convinced me to stay.” “Thank the Moon Goddess! This place would be miserable without you!” “You’re sweet, Grey.” I smiled. “Not as sweet as you. Let me take your bag.” He took it from Enzo. I sighed happily, finally feeling like I could actually do this and save both Enzo and myself.
