Who would betray Enzo like this?
Who in our pack would work with his brother and sworn enemy? What was the reason? Enzo was a good Alpha. Sure he was a prickly man and could be very mean, but he cared about The Bloodrose Banes and he always did what was best for them even if they didn’t realize it.
All of that and one of them betrayed him.
What if it was Grey? He was so mad about what had happened between me and Enzo and so he wanted to get him back in the worst way?
No! Grey was a good man. He always had been. He would never go that far to get back at Enzo, especially over me.
Right?
The door squeaked open and Rafe entered again. This time with food. “Hungry?” He asked.
I didn’t want to admit it, but I definitely was.
“Yes, thank you.”
Rafe set the tray on the desk and motioned for me to come over and eat. I was nervous about what he would do, but I was so hungry, I still went over.
He watched me wolf down the sandwich. I had never gone so long without eating before. I guess that was pretty lucky.
“Celine…I know you’re not a wolf,” Rafe stated.
“Okay. So what am I?”
“An angel. I just don’t exactly understand what you’re doing with my brother.”
“I love him.” I whispered.
“Before that. When you two weren’t in love. Do you know why you were around him? Why you suddenly joined his pack?” Rafe questioned.
“Of course I know. I didn’t lose my memory or anything. Forget me dust doesn’t work on angels.”
“Why not?”
“We have to remember everything if we’re to do our jobs.” I informed him.
His eyes lit up. “Oh I get it now. You’re his guardian angel.” I nodded. “Figures Enzo would get one and I don’t. He gets everything, you know?”
“What exactly does he have that you don’t?” I asked. “His parents are dead and he turned his back on love. But he pulled through and he stayed strong for his pack. He’s an Alpha the same as you, Rafe. You are not that different.”
“Yes we are! He had a perfect life until all that s**t happened Celine! I didn’t! I had to wonder why my mom couldn’t always be with me and why she could only be around me for days at a time. When I found out about Enzo I was devastated. She chose him over me.”
“That’s not how Enzo tells it.” I whispered.
“There’s two sides to every story, Celine. You’re just not interested in hearing mine.” Rafe shook his head.
Suddenly I felt kind of bad for him. I know he kidnapped me and wanted to kill my boyfriend, but Rafe was still a person. He had still been hurt. I didn’t want to contribute to that.
“I’m sorry, you’re right, Rafe. I haven’t been open to hearing anything else on this story. Please tell me.” I said.
Rafe looked taken aback. “Really?”
I nodded. “Maybe we can figure out how to make it better.”
We sat on the bed together.
“Like I said, I was devastated when I found out about Enzo, but I was also kind of happy. I had always wanted a brother. And then when I met him, I liked him, but I was all too aware that once he found out who I was he would hate me…and he did.”
“He found out in a really bad way, Rafe. You have to realize that.” I said.
“I know but…I just wanted a brother. I didn’t make my parents have the affair.”
“And Enzo didn’t make it so he seemingly had the perfect life. You two are not responsible for what your parents did. You can change how things are now, Rafe. You can be real brothers. Fight together instead of against one another.”
The softness in Rafe’s eyes left. “I’m sorry, Celine, I just can’t do that. All I ever really had was my father and Enzo took that away from me. So that means he has to go. He’s not the man you think he is. He is cruel and heartless. I will bring that out of him so I can show you what he’s like.”
“I know what Enzo is like already! I know him much better than you ever will.”
“Just because you gave him your angelic virginity doesn’t mean you know him.” Rafe chuckled. “It just means you can easily fall for a less than perfect man. It gives me hope.”
“How do you plan on making me fall in love with you?” I asked.
“Well, I can’t tell you that. I want it to be a surprise.” Rafe stood up. “I’ll check on you later, beautiful. Until then I’ll send in Rekz to watch you. You two get along, don’t you?”
“Where’s Sela? Please just let me talk to her.”
“Don’t you worry, Celine. You’ll be seeing the Seraphic Paragon very soon. It’s all a part of the plan.”

Rekz made me incredibly uncomfortable.
He was leering at me from the other side of the room with a sinister smile on his face. Maybe I could see if I could get through to him.
“So…Rekz…what’s your story?” I asked.
“Excuse me?”
“Your background. How did you get here?”
“Alpha Rafe was recruiting people who wanted to make a difference in the world. He was offering shelter, protection and a bit of chaos. I had to say yes.”
“How do you want to make a difference in the world?” I asked.
Rekz grinned. “I wanna watch it burn.”
“Oh my.”
“Fun right?”
“Sure.”
“So when do you think your Alpha boyfriend is coming for you?” He questioned.
“Soon. Enzo is probably losing his mind about me right now, so he’ll come as soon as he can.”
“He still doesn’t know about the spy does he?”
“I can’t imagine he does. Who was it?” I asked.
“Mmm…can’t tell you, sorry, Celine, but I still don’t know how your powers work. You could slip a message to your wolfy lover.”
Of course my powers! Why didn’t I think of that before? If I could use them a little bit, I could get to sleep and then see Sela again and try to help us both out of here.
“Sela. The Seraphic Paragon…she’s here, right?” I asked. “Locked up in this packhouse?”
“She sure is.”
“I think I’m going to take a nap, Rekz.”
“I’ll watch you very closely, Celine.”
I noticed a wound on Rekz’s arm. “Um…can I heal that for you?”
“Really?” He asked.
I nodded. “Sure. I mean, I’m an angel, I’m supposed to help people.”
“Heal away, sweetheart.”
I put my hand on his arm and it started glowing. A few moments later, the wound was healed.
“Thank you,” Rekz was still looking at me suspiciously.
“No problem, Rekz. Anything I can do to help.”
I laid down on the bed, ready to see Sela again and figure out a way back to Enzo.
