Chapter 10 - Tyler

They were feeling the excitement now. There really was a mystery. They were hopeful it would be if the paranormal kind, but really, it was investigating the unknown that really drove them. They had done it since the day they met. If there was a problem, they'd figure it out as a team. Neither said much as the search continued. An hour had gone by before they decided to return to their command setup. As they walked into the main room, they heard voices. Val had apparently made a new friend. The young man looked to be a few years older than Stephen and Evan. He had a paddle complexion that screamed out an avoidance of the sun. His beard looked a bit scratchy, but his smile was very disarming. Val was laughing at something when her two friends walked up "Hey guys. This is Tyler. He saw our van and wandered in to see what we were up to. I was just showing him some of the equipment." Tyler stood with confidence as if he belonged there. He glanced at Val's two friends and offered a greeting. Then he jumped back into questioning about how everything was supposed to work. Val seemed to glow as she explained everything. Evan noticed Stephen crossing his arms and glaring. He could be pretty territorial. Evan wasn't sure what to think. Val always seemed so aloof. Yet, here she was as if she'd always been the most social of them all. "Well, Tyler," Stephen started," It's great to meet you and all, but we have special permission to be here from Miss Watson, the owner. I'm afraid we haven't been cleared for any guests and we have a lot of work to do." If this has caused any tension, it didn't seem to register with Tyler. He just smiled back and said, "I'm very aware of that. Aunt Charlotte, let's come and go if I like. She knew I planned to check in. I'm actually the leading historian when it comes to this house. Aunt Charlotte and my dad were both born here. My dad also passed away here. I'm the only person who's been allowed in since Rogers." Evan wasn't sure how to proceed with everything. Stephen scowled even more. This guy could possibly aid them in their endeavors, but Stephen was too stubborn to just let it go. "Well, I wish your aunt had warned us. We really don't need any liabilities added to our investigation. " I'm sure she didn't mean to neglect mentioning me. This house brings my aunt pain. She lost her only brother here. She never had a family of her own, so she goes deep in her thoughts any time she looks at this place. If it's too much of a problem, I can go." "You don't have to," Val started, but Evan jumped in as well. Honestly, Tyler, we don't know much about this place. And if you can forgive my friend, he'd just be worried about being upstaged. We would appreciate some information on this plan. No, Stephen. Don't you glare at me. You know you're thinking it as well. You're just stubborn!"
