CHAPTER THIRTY-SIX Alexis and Penelope entered Heath’s living room later that evening. “Sorry if we’re interrupting,” Alexis said. “Not at all.” Genie, Heath’s babysitter, yanked toys and food wrappings off the couch. “Please, have a seat.” “We tried to speak to Heath at his job today.” Penelope sat next to Alexis on the couch, which smelled of cigarette ashes and mildew. “But he was on deliveries so we couldn’t get a hold of him.” “You have more news about Gari’s murder?” Genie held the girlish toys to her chest. “I know you can’t discuss the case but I’m concerned.” “We’re taking leads as they come.” Penelope smiled. “What about Kevin Reed?” Genie dumped the toys by the scuffed-up entertainment system. “He’s still the prime suspect, right?” Alexis sighed. “Yes.” “Did he do it?”
