The Agreement

James's POV

After leaving the hospital, I decided to go to work but I couldn't stop thinking about the young lady I left at the hospital.Memories kept flashing back at how she pleaded and how needy she looked, but I chose to leave her at the hospital helpless.I couldn't stop thinking of how she begged me to help her sister but people had lied to me several times so I wasn't sure whether she was telling the truth and I never wanted to get attached. I had wasted already too much time waiting for her to wake up and since she wasn't badly affected by the accident, I wanted to be done with her.

But she looked so innocent ...

‘Unless you have something to say sir’

I shouldn't have walked away...

‘Sir?’

But she is like everyone else.Everyone has their ups and downs, she will overcome it.

“Mr.Mclain?” I was brought back to reality by my assistant.

We were in the meeting and everyone was looking at me with worried and confused expression.

“Yes, Please?” I replied giving them my attention now.

“Mr.Mclain, what do you think about Mr.Rivers's proposal?”

“I'm not in position to make a decision right now but my assistant will send you my decision on your emails.Thank you all for your time” I said and left the board room.

Once I was in my office, I called my investigator to find out about the lady I left at the hospital sending him to doctor Freddy as the starting point.

There was a knock on my door.

“Come in”I barked out

“sir are you okay?” Ana my assistant came asking me

“Yeah, I'm fine.Why?”

“It's just that you seemed to be far during the meeting and you had to make the final decision today but you have just left the meeting”

As she was still talking, I received the message from my investigator.He had got what I asked for.

“Well, they will have to wait. An hour or two won't kill. Just put the minutes of the meeting on my desk, I'll get back to them soon” I said and went out.

We drove to the hospital where I thought she would be but she hadn't return yet. I paid the doctors and asked them to start operating on the little girl.Her condition was critical and if we waited any further, she was going to die.

Chloe's POV

“Hey Kitty, I got the money. It's time for your operation” I excitedly said as I opened her hospital room but she was not on the bed .I decided to check in the washroom and she wasn't there either something that got me worried. The first thing that came to my mind was that may be I was late and she had died.I let out an ugly cry that I couldn't stifle, this was too much and I had failed kitty.I had failed us. I started looking around but she was nowhere to be found.I didn't see her doctor around either so I decided to ask the receptionist.

“They are in the middle of the operation right now, you will have to wait Miss” I couldn't help but give her a big hug. she had no idea how important the information she gave me was at the moment.

“Thank you”I said to her and then went and waited outside the operation room I was directed to. I internally thanked God and also prayed that she gets out alive but I couldn't help but wonder how they decided to work on her before I even brought the money because all the previous times they had refused to do it.‘May be they had gotten soft and felt sorry for Kitty’ I was brought back to reality by the wierd noise in my stomach.

“You haven't eaten yet?”someone asked

I looked up to see the guy that had left me in the hospital. I ignored his question but rather asked mine.

“What are you doing here mister?”

He let out a sigh and sat next to me. He didn't answer, he just looked at me. “I just asked you a question mister” I said after realizing that he wasn't answering for some time now.

“ I asked a question first but you never answered remember, you answer mine first and I will answer yours”He replied

Was he crazy, the fact that I had eaten was none of his business but since I needed an answer I replied

“No, I haven't.So can you please tell me why you're here?”he fished out a phone from his pocket and typed something on his phone like he hadn't heard my question.

“You're just so mean and cruel - I started but he cut me off before I could continue

“Let's just say, I came to make my first payment to you” he said handing me a fully paid receipt for Kitty's operation.I was now lost.

“What payment are you talking about?” I couldn't help but ask

“I accept you as my surrogate Miss Chloe Fox” he said and from the corner I saw a guy coming towards us with a pursal and food in the other hand. I just sat there dumbfounded. I froze, I didn't know what to say. I didn't know whether to thank him, how to tell him that I didn't need his money anymore. Though the payment was already made and I'd rather give birth to a child than entertain some rich old fat men in the brothel.

“You said I was not perfect for the job. What made you change your mind?”I asked

“Just stop with the questions and start eating your stomach can't Stop rumbling”

I didn't argue any further, I decided to eat but if I must admit it was the best meal I've had since my parents' death. I just wanted to share it with my sister but she was not around.

I promised myself that I would make efforts and take her to the fancy restaurant when she gets out.

When I was done eating, he passed me a contract that I had to sign.I carefully read through before I made a decision.I looked at the terms of the agreement and wasn't sure if I wanted to do the job anymore. There was this one clause that said “Once the baby was born, I just leave it there to them and go away with no strings attached”.

“Having second thoughts?” Mr McClain asked when he saw that I wasn't signing but before I could answer I remembered that Kitty's payment had already made so I signed.
