She Is So Mean

Chloe's POV

After the process of making me a surrogate was done, Dr Freddy asked us to go home and we had to wait for ten to fourteen days to confirm if I had got pregnant.Mr. McLain and his wife took me back home along with a nurse to monitor me within these few days.Though I didn't think it was necessary but I had to go with the flow.

On reaching home, we found Kitty sitting in the living room watching cartoons.She immediately got up and ran to Mr.Mclain giving him a hug.He carried her and she wrapped her legs around his waist.He had become her close buddy and I was wondering how she will react when she finds out about the deal we had and the day we will have to walk away after I give them their baby.

“Careful Kitty you haven't healed fully remember?”Mr.Mclain told her putting her down.

“I forget sometimes, sorry mr.Knight.I'll be careful next time”She replied then looked at me.

“Welcome back Chloe”

“Thanks Kitty”

“Hi miss”She said to Mr.Mclain's wife with a smile.

“Hello.Are you one of the servant's child?”She asked my sister making her smile disappear

“No, Chloe is my sister”Kitty replied

The lady then looked at me then to her husband.

“You didn't tell me that she was to live with relatives here”she said

“I see nothing wrong with that”Mr.Mclain replied

“It's wrong James, all her concentration has to be on our child but she won't be able to do that with a young sister around”She stated

“I will concentrate just fine miss, her being with me has nothing on your child”I managed to say.This woman was mean not only to me but also to just a mere child.

“Do you expect me to believe that?”

“I give you my word, trust me I won't let you down”I said

“Chloe, what's going on?”Kitty asked confused and I didn't know what to tell her.I had told her that Mr.Mclain was my friend and he was offering me a job..

I also told her that he was giving us a house when she asked about the expensive cabin.

“It's nothing to worry about dear.I think you should go to your room.I'll talk to you later”I told her.She looked at me like she didn't believe me and hesitated to go.

“Go on”I said then she reluctantly took the stairs.

“And kids of her age should be at school by this time.What is she doing home?”

“That's enough Christine”James intervened

I heard a sob and looked up to see that Kitty hadn't made it to her room yet and had heard what Christine had said.She then looked at me and ran to her room.

“Excuse me”I said and decided to go talk to her.

She was still healing and wasn't supposed to be stressed at any point.This woman wasn't helping the situation at all.

I found her sleeping face front as she cried her heart out.

“Hey Kitty, please stop crying it's not good for the heart”I said touching her shoulder.

“That woman is so mean”Was her reply but she didn't stop.

“I know dear but first stop crying. I don't want us to go back to the hospital” When she heard that, she sat upright and wiped her tears.

“Who is that woman and what was she saying?”

“She is Mr.Mclain's wife”

“Why is she here?”

“She came to see where I live”

“What child was she talking about?”

“Forget about that Kitty.It's a long story”I replied

" It's okay Chloe if you choose not to tell me, I wont insist”she said and I felt relieved.

“Thank you” I replied

“She is right though.I should be at school.I have healed Chloe, I can go to class now”

“Give me some time Kitty.I need to raise your fees first” I said to her. I had ran out of money because every single Cent I was raising was going on Kitty's medication so I didn't have money to take her back to school at the moment.

“It doeesn't have to be expensive, I can go to the government School I wont mind as long as I go back to school” she pleaded.

“You will go to school Kitty, the best one in the country” A voice behind me said

Mr McClain was standing at the door of Kitty's bedroom

“But Mr McClain, you don't have to do that for me.I will handle that business myself”

“I want to do this for my little friend here.If she doesn't mind”He replied walking towards Kitty

“Of course I don't mind Mr.Knight.If it's okay with your wife”

Even though kitty was young, she had matured mentally, I was also thinking the same thing.Christine was going to make a fuss about that too and I didn't want more trouble.

“I'll take you to school.She doesn't have a say on that”He assured her.

“Mr.Mclain please.You don't have to...”I said to him but he chose to ignore me.

“We will go to school on Monday, Okay Kitty?”He asked my little sister.

This time around, Kitty did not take my side, she just nodded her head with a big smile. she really wanted to go to school.

It had been a year since she stopped going to school. When her disease worsened, she got weak and the school asked me to treat her first.

“And don't pay attention to what Christine has said.Okay?"He told my sister

“Okay.Mr.Knight.Thank you so much”

James's POV

For all the time I had known Christine, I never knew she was this mean or maybe because I had never seen her around people that are needy.First, she had looked down on Chloe and I let it slide but then she was out of line now when she decided to attack a little girl little did she know about her health status.

“How could you say such mean words to the little girl” I asked when Chloe followed her sister.

“I don't think I said anything wrong James.You not only accepted them but also bonded with the girl”

“She is just a little girl Christine and being nice to her wouldn't have killed you”

“No honey, I'm not doing that”She said crossing her arms on her chest like a little spoilt brat.

“I see”I replied and headed towards the stairs where Kitty and her sister had gone.

“Where are you going?”Christine asked

“To clean up your mess” was my reply

“Don't tell me you are going to say sorry”She yelled making me stop to look back.

“That I am.Now please just go home because from here I'm heading back to the office” I said and continued with the stairs.

I stopped at Kitty's room and her door was widely open.They were talking about school and it seemed Chloe had trouble with school fees yet her sister seemed really eager to go to school.

After talking to Kitty, I made my way out of the room but as I reached the living room, Chloe called me making me stop.

“Mr McClain, you can't pay fees for my sister”she said

“May I know why?”I asked

“First of all I'm her sister, I'm supposed to pay her fees.Secondly, all this arrangement will be over once the baby is born so I might not be able to pay that much fees once the contract is over. Just let me do this my way” she said

“No worries Chloe, I'll pay for Kitty's fees even when the baby is born”

“But the contract says once the baby is born, I'll have to stay out of the picture and I cannot do that when you are still in contact with my sister” she said

“Chloe, paying school fees has nothing to do with you meeting my child so I'll pay Kitty's fees”I said and then excused myself and left.
