We Can't Go Broke

Christine's POV

I was surprised with James's poor choice of a surrogate.She must have lived a simple life, she didn't even have a degree.Who knew maybe she was even a street thug.I wanted to find someone else but I was already late, it was time to get the thing done and it wasn't like I was interested in the child anyway, I just wanted James to get off my tail so I didn't insist on finding someone else.

After the embryo was inserted in her womb, I decided to go with them to see where she was going to live only to find out that my husband had spent alot of our money buying an expensive cabin for Chloe and a sister.He had also hired four servants for them.‘What a waste of money on poor people’.

I couldn't understand what made him do that, had he decided to feed the poor surrogate's whole family?

The way he got along with the girl also made me furious. It's not like he was her father or brother.I saw her more like a begger or a little thief like her Sister.

When I stated a few facts, the little girl got angry followed by her sister then James decided to go up apologize something that I couldn't understand, he even asked me to leave.I couldn't believe my ears, James hadn't been this rude for the time I had known him.I wasn't planning on leaving him there so I decided to go wait in the car.

As I was waiting, I got a call from dad and he urgently wanted to see me to which I asked the driver to take me where we were supposed to meet.

“Hello Daddy, you sounded so serious.What's up” I said the moment I sat with my dad at the eatery.

“I heard some stupid surrogate stuff.How could you Chris?”

“Daddy I can't give James a baby of my own.The doctor checked and informed me that I won't be able to give birth”

“Where in the world did you find the doctor? You know we have a family doctor you could have told me and I don't believe you. I think we should go and get you checked”

“No Daddy it's useless cause today we just started our journey to becoming parents and within a few days, the surrogate will be expecting our baby”

"I know you very well Christine and I know you were lying when you said you couldn't give birth.Why did you do that?”

“You got me.I did that because I didn't want to become a mother. I didn't want to ruin my finger, I love my career way too much and I really hate children Daddy”

“You are unbelievable.Do you think your career is going to help us save our company? Christine our company has got a lot of debts, I already told you that and we might lose it anytime.Instead of securing your relationship with James you pushing him away, no one is going to help us apart from the Mcclains otherwise we are getting broke.

“we can't go broke Daddy, that would be my worst nightmare”

“That will depend on you my dear because if your husband doesn't give us a hand, we are sinking slowly Christine that's why I think you made a mistake. You giving James a baby was going to help us so much but then you gave the chance to another woman. How do you guarantee that you would still be entitled to his love and Money?”

“Daddy you know I can't deal with poverty and the baby is part mine and James's.she's just a surrogate and my husband loves me even though I don't love him that much but I'm trying daddy.I have been with James all this time because of you”

“Whatever you are saying won't make sense until your husband gives us enough money to save the company”

Talking to my dad added more stress to what I had. Ivan had walked away from me the other day so I couldn't talk to him.I decided to go get myself a drink.

I ended up drinking more than I had planned to the extent that I got wasted.I decided to get myself some of the good looking men at the bar and got laid. By the time I went back home, it was around one o'clock and James was already in bed so I decided to join him. He never said anything to me or even ask me where I was.He just read a few chapters of his book then slept facing the other side.

He wasn't supposed to get mad at me because I needed him so much.I made sure to wake up early in the morning, I went to the kitchen and asked Nina my favorite maid to make me a delicious breakfast.I then took it myself to our bedroom and lied to James that I made it. He decided to eat offering me a thanks but he wasn't softening up.

“I'm so sorry James”I said as he ate his breakfast.

“Are you sorry for your behavior or for the fact that you came back home past midnight and drunk” he asked not looking up at me

“For both J”.I crossed the line but I am asking you to forgive me.

“Unfortunately dear wife, I don't want to talk about any of that today and I have things to do at the office, so please excuse me” he got up heading to the bathroom.

I really needed to be on his good side for the sake of my family so I wasn't going to stop apologizing until he decided to talk to me.

It was now if a week and my husband hadn't forgiven me yet even though I kept apologizing every now and then.Tried to get off with him but for the first time he refused.He even didn't want his assistant to let me see him at work. I had ran out of options but I suddenly got an idea. Even though it was hard for me, I was going to do it for as long as it would make James to forgive me.

Chloe's POV

We were starting to adjust to the new life of being cared for and served by the house helpers James had put for us. He would pass by everyday to check on me, he had also left behind two nurses to monitor me. His wife hadn't showed up since the day she made a scene. Kitty was just a happy kid waiting for him today to take him to school. she woke up early and did everything she needed to do as she waited for Mr McClain to show up.

By 8 o'clock in the morning, Mr McLean was at the gate as he had promised Kitty and after checking on me as usual, he took my sister to school not allowing me to go with them.

He had no idea but he had just given me a debt that I didn't know how to pay because all I was left to do in this world was to give my sister education and everything she wanted.Mr Mclain was taking her to the best school in the region and I wasn't complaining I was just grateful I met such a caring man.Christine was so lucky.
