9.Family Conflicts

James's POV

On Reaching home, my butler informed me that dad was home so I went to meet him in the living room. Christine followed me and after saying Hi to Dad, she went upstairs.

“So dad, to what do I owe this visit” I asked my old man. My dad is one person who takes long without visiting me and I know that when he does, it's not him showing how he missed me but rather about business.It's me who always goes to the countryside to visit them.Though mom checks on me at times.

“You know me too well son.

I'm definitely here for a reason”

“Which is?”

“ Uou know when you married Christine, we put to bed all the doubts they had about you and not being a capable leader of our company but as you see it's been 2 years and you guys have not given us an heir. They are starting to think that you either have conflicts in your marriage or one of you can't give birth and they're saying if you can't handle your marriage right, how are you going to handle them?”he explained

“ I believe that was Liam's stupid suggestion but no worries dad, an heir is in the way”I said

Liam McLain was my cousin.He badly wanted what I had.He had a family and kids so he was trying to use that against me at times.He was a bit rude which made the board members see me as a potential candidate, he always does everything in his power to see to it that I live this spot for him though he hasn't been able to succeed.

“Are you sure I have a grandchild on the way?" My dad asked looking all happy.

“Yes Dad”

“This is worth a celebration, call Christine for me, I need to congratulate her"

“Uhhhh dad, we are going to become parents through surrogacy"

“What? Why?"He asked swinging his hands in the air.

“Unfortunately, Christine can't have children so we went for surrogacy but still the baby is ours together” I explained to which dad nodded his head in understanding.

“ I hope you signed the contract.I don't want things to go wrong putting my grandchild in a situation because some surrogates tend to become a problem after babies are born”

“Everything is set dad.The contract was signed and she knows that after birth, she'll have to go and leave our child behind”

“Alright son, hope your wife is okay with it”

“I believe she's okay Dad. In fact she's the one who introduced the idea”

“Congratulations to the both of you but still, it's worth a celebration.A small party between our families plus the surrogate won't do us bad”.He said

“That's not a bad idea I will let Christine and Chloe know”.

“And I will go let your mother know, she's going to be excited for the news and she would like to prepare this party. I know for sure.She is been waiting for years to hear this”

“ I'm sure she would.How is she by the way” I asked about my mom. She's good but she's going to get better trust me”Dad said getting up.

I walked him out of the house and also headed to my room.

When I reached in the bedroom, Christine had the whole of our bedroom lit with candles and she was putting on my favorite red sexy lingerie all spread out on bed I couldn't resist her so I joined her and we got off.

I was still in what they called a post coital bliss when Chris called me.

“Yes, my love” I responded

“My dad's company is crumbling down. I really need your help here, we need a huge sum of money. If my parents fail, we are going to lose everything and they don't have money as per now”

“How much are we talking about here Christine?” I asked

“About 10 million dollars my love”

“That's a lot of money and I am in no position to give you all that amount by myself.I don't think the board will agree especially now that Liam wants to take over so bad but I'm going to try my best to see that I help your parents out”I assured her.

“Thank you so much J” she said cuddling on to me and we fell asleep.

“Love, I think we should go and check on Chloe and our little one” I said in the morning.

“Believe me love, I would love to do that but they have called me.I have to go to work.In fact I'm getting late”Christine replied

I was hoping our child would be her first priority but if she chose her job again over family there was nothing I was going to do to change her mind

“Alright Christine, I guess I will just go on my own”

“Thanks for understanding love, I'll be going with you when I retur".

“For how long will you be gone because Dad has talked about throwing a party for the little baby and I believe it's going to be soon?”

“I'm not sure my love but I'll make sure to be here you just have to let me know then I will talk to Mr.Brian the head of the agency” shes said

‘Wasn't she supposed to be here and help my mom out’ I thought to myself “Okay Christine, I will definitely let you know.

“Where you going this time around?”I asked

“Italy”

“Okay then.Have a safe flight”

“Thank you my love” she gave me a kiss and went to get prepared for work.

I also prepared myself and headed to the cabin to check on Chloe and also let her know about the party.

This time she was neither in the living room nor in her bedroom.I found her in the backyard sitting at the swing and reading a certain book

“I didn't know you liked reading” I said walking towards her

“There's a lot you don't know about me Mr.McClain, though I'm doing this just to pass time cause I can't do any housework the house help us won't let me and I have a lot of my mind so I'm trying to distract myself”

“What's bothering you? You can talk to me”I asked scooted over for me to sit and let out a sigh

“I don't know how I'm going to explain all this to Kitty. I don't know how she's going to take it and I'm afraid because she's still healing. I don't want her to be stressed, we might end up going back to where we were and I don't like that”She opened up.

“You don't have to worry about that. I'm around, we'll figure something out because she really needs to know since the stomach will be getting big and bigger every day but I always think of something don't worry”.

“You know I was reading for her a bedtime story and then suddenly felt like I wanted to puke then I ran to her bathroom she found me puking in the toilet and she got even more worried. I had to lie to her how I ate gluten at work. She knows that I'm allergic to it so she accepted but we need to tell her soon I can't be lying to her everyday”.

I understand I'm going to think of something” I said tapping on her shoulder and I saw her looking up at me.

“So how is my little one doing?” I asked

“I'm not sure. I mean it's too young to tell whether it's playing or not”she replied

I brought my head closer to her belly to see if I could feel it but there was nothing.

“I know you are there little one, Daddy can't wait to see you” I talked to the belly.

When I was done,I saw Chloe looking at me with tears welling up in her eyes.

“Is there something wrong? where does it hurt? Can I call a doctor?" I asked panicking not sure what was bothering her.

“Nothing hurts Mr McLain, I was just thinking that you are going to make a great dad and this kid is so lucky"she replied

“Oh please, don't scare me like that again. I thought you were hurting.And please stop calling me by Mr.Mclain.You can start calling me James".

“I'll try but to me,it doesn't feel right”

“Well then you better start practicing it because you are no longer a stranger to me”I informed her.

“Alright Mr.Mclain I mean J-James“She said making me smile at her stuttering.She looked so innocent and sweet.

“I also came here to let you know that so my parents will be hosting a celebration for the baby in here so I want you to be prepared"'

“No James, I'm scared, what will they think of me? what am I supposed to do there? and I'm not used to alot people giving me attention.”

“They're not going to think anything of you. You're just doing your job and they're not a lot it's just my parents and Christian's parents”.

“Oh my God, so how am I supposed to dress up? I don't even know what to wear I don't even have it”

“Well you don't have to worry about all that.I'll pick you up tomorrow and we will go shopping”
