MARCUS She's blossomed since the last I've seen her. Her hair was longer and her body was more curvy. Her hips and her thighs, thanks to the slack she wore. Her hair fell around her face, her brown eyes mesmerizing and her skin glowing. But a crazy way to meet. I stood outside her building for a good twenty minutes now not knowing if I should go in. I had arrived at my sister's place a few hours ago and she had encouraged me to go and see her, to catch up with her. I just decided to go in when I was hit with the door and she walked out apologizing. When our eyes met, she was shocked to see me after asking if I was okay. "Marcus?" Hmmm. Her voice was still sweet as ever. Inhaling a softy but deep breath, I smiled at her. "I had to see you." I say, keeping a good distance with her. She swallowed hard and shifted under my gaze. Her left hand pushed back a strand of hair from her face, behind her ear. It was then when I saw the gold cut diamond ring on her ring finger. Jennifer spoke the truth. She was to be married. When Jen told me, I hoped she lied but I felt it was true. I came down here not only to spend some time with my sister and her family or to get away from Canada for a while but to see if it was true. I hoped we could pick up where we left off. We hadn't scratched the surface of what was happening between. "Well," she paused, a nervous laugh leaving her plumped lips. The ones that embedded it's in my memory. I remember her taste and her sweet moans. Music to my ears. "You look different. More muscular at the shoulders and forever, what's the word? Crispy with the cut?" She smiled. I couldn't help the laugh that left my lips. I nod slowly. "Indeed, Em." "Not to be rude but, what are you doing here?" "Visiting my sister and my brother in law and my niece and nephew. Just needed to get away from Canada. And I wanted to see you." And without hesitation, I asked something that may had been out of line but I had to know. "Are you happy with him?" She exhaled a soft breath, closing her eyes. After a moment, she opened her eyes and met my eyes. "Marcus, I am." My chest tightened at her words. Is she really? "Have dinner with me." Her eyes widened. "What? No. Marcus, I cannot." She sighed. "Just friends. Nothing more, Emily." She shook her head. "It's not a good idea, Marcus. It was nice seeing you again but there's nothing more to talk about since I left Canada. I moved on and so should you." She says, stepping closer to me. Her arms wrapped around my shoulders, embracing me in a hug. I sighed and wrapped my arms around her waist. She was right against me. She smelled amazing and it was hard to keep myself together. Ten seconds and she pulled away and looked into my eyes. I swear time stopped around us. She broke it with one step then another, putting more distance between us. "See you around, Marcus. I wish you the best." She said with sincerity and walked off to her car. I stared after her, my hands in my pockets, feeling useless. She got in her car, not looking back and started it up and she drove off. She was gone. EMILY I pulled up into my usual parking spot in front of my condo. I parked and cut the car off. I sat frozen in my seat, my mind working it's thoughts about Marcus. It's been working the entire car ride and it made me think why Jennifer never told me Marcus was here in Florida. And he asked me for dinner. As bad as I would have loved to say yes and catch up some more, it was not a good idea. It would look bad on him and me and my fiancé. The internet loves to make stories and I will not allow this situation to seem like a love triangle. Refusing to that dinner and in case he had any other future plans, was for his safety and mine. I sighed. I couldn't have any of this bringing up any closed wounds. I am to be married and I loved Noah. The feelings I once felt for Marcus are gone and I found someone else. I got out of the car and locked it before heading into my condo. My phone rang just as I unlocked my door. I entered my home and locked the door behind me and answered. "Hello?" "Hey baby." Noah's enthusiastic voice blared through the line. "Hey Noah. How's LA?" "Long. But, I found a house for us. I plan to move us in right after the wedding." I sighed. "I'm still thinking this is a bit too soon, Noah. I have my company and—" "It will be taken care of as soon as we move together. I passed this building and it's on sale. Perfect place to relocate and I'm sure your mother will be happy to help." Of course she would. My mother is obsessed with LA living. She's also pushing me to marry Noah as soon as possible. She was a bit disappointed that I didn't marry him as soon as he asked but I didn't care. I wanted to take my time and ensure myself that he is the one before I exchange vows with him. So far, Noah is a great man and he supports me and my family with his money. He's sweet and loving and I do see myself spending the rest of my life with him. He's perfect and all. All but children. "And what of us? Our marriage, I mean." I set down my purse and leaned down, taking off my heels and throwing them near the door. I moved my toes and walked to my kitchen. "I'll do everything to make you happy, Emily. I love you." I smiled. "I love you too." "Perfect. I'll see you in a few days, love." "Okay." We ended the call and I placed my phone on the counter top and washed my hands before going in the fridge and looking for something to eat.
