Saturday evening had arrived and Shane’s backyard buzzed with activity. Cari watched over her growing family with joy. Kate and Don had arrived lugging a cooler between them, and Don carried a large baking pan in the other hand. Cari couldn’t help but see Kate’s face glow with happiness and she hoped everyone would support the couple on their new adventure.
Don set the cooler down and Cari tried to peek into the covered container. “What’s for dessert?”
“Vanilla ice cream and triple chocolate brownies.” Grinning, Kate said, “I don’t remember the last time we made ice cream and I thought it would be fun taking turns at the crank.”
