Chapter 10

VALENTINE

I grabbed my jacket and fled my apartment determined to tell Rayna everything. All the things that had been building up in me since the day we met. As I entered the hallway my eyes fell on Kiva searching her bag. She pulled out a piece of paper and chuckled to herself as she read it. Petrified someone would find out I moved to the same building as the boss, I quietly retreated inside.

"What the hell is she doing here?! I usually go with Ray to and from work!" I said to the boxes in my empty apartment. I slid down my front door until I was on the floor. I pulled out my phone and saw a text from her.

RAYNA: Hey I promoted Kiva to my

personal assistant so she will be coming

to and from work with me from now on.

I'll see you in a bit.

I stood up with my fists clenched. Clearly she doesn't want anything to do with me. The adrenaline from almost confessing my feelings, boiled over into my seething rage. Before I knew it my fist went flying through the wall next to me.

"Fine if this is how she wants things, she'll have no feelings from me." I thought angrily to myself before heading to Umbra.

RAYNA

Everyone was gathered in the usual meeting spot, only V seemed to be sitting as far away from me as possible.

"Good news everyone," I began to address the group, "Kiva has been promoted to my personal assistant. If for some reason you cannot reach me, you can call her. Also Darci and Ember left last night and Nyx will be looking after Quinn until they return. So, Leeya, Ziggy and Jade, you'll be on bar tonight. Bastian, Leo, Raven, Silas and Scarlett will be serving. Now, because we are down so many, we are capping our entry and offering half priced drinks. Cassius and V will be assisting Osiris with security. I have instructed them to inform Ember and Nyx's clients that they are away at the door. Hopefully we will avoid another incident. Any questions?"

Brin raised her hand.

"Why does everyone raise their hand? This isn't a classroom." I stated plainly only to be met with silence. I rubbed my temples and asked defeated, "Uh...how can I help you Brin?"

"I was wondering if we could start doing themes?" she asked.

"Theemmeess?"I replied.

"Yes, like one night we can do geishas and wear kimono or like--"

Beau popped up and interrupted with, "PIRATE NIGHT!" Everyone turned and looked at him concerned.

"I see where you are going with this. Okay, after close tonight you can talk to everyone and make a list. I will look them over and announce the weeks themes after Nyx's party tomorrow." I agreed.

From the crowd I heard people exchanging ideas.

"Wrestlers?!"

"Princess!"

"Get to work." I interrupted.

VALENTINE

I watched out of the corner of my eye as Ray and Kiva took off to the elevator.

"Oi, get your head in the game mate" Cass broke my grimacing stare.

"My heads in it Cass. Let's kick someone's ass... uh I mean let's uh get to work." I replied with a forced grin.

"Cass is right baby. The fact that he boss chose Kiva over you, is written all over your pretty face. You'll get wrinkles, but don't worry, I can come over and cuddle you to sleep." Osiris teased. He had two sides to him. The big scary guard dog and who he really was. An unapologetically gay man with a sensitive side and the hots for me.

I flexed my arms and replied, "I don't think you could handle me babe." He squealed and squeezed my muscles. He was one of my best friends and could kill anyone just by looking at them. We loved f*****g with each other. He always made me smile even if I didn't want to.

"Let's get down there before she comes back and eats us." I suggested with a laugh.
