“You lying b***h!” The rogue boss yells in my face and backhands me.
“Grab them. And take them to the cells.” Alpha Liam says to the special forces’ warriors, and they do as they are told.
“Brea! Are you okay?!” Tyrene gasped trying to get out of her hospital bed.
“Stay there, Tyrene. I got her.” Alpha Liam says as he bends down to help me up. “Are you alright, Brea?”
“I’m fine. Not even a scratch on me. Believe me I’ll be alright.” I say and stand up with the help of Liam.
“Speaking of that, why don’t you have any marks on you? You fought five rogue wolves and took down two of them by the time Aaron got to you. As you saw earlier, he still has several healing scratches on his body. And a few of the warriors have noticed that your scent is a bit different now that you only have three hours till it’s your birthday. What’s going on? You know you can tell me, right?” Liam said, sounding like a lovely father concerned for his child.
Well, I’m not his child and he shouldn’t feel the need to be concerned about me at all. I just want to find my mate, leave, and take my best friend with me away from this place. It’s not bad here no one but Odessa abused or threatened the Omegas of this pack, but that was kind of the problem. Everyone ignored us as Omegas and basically looked the other way because we do all the cooking, cleaning, prepping, decorating, just everything that is too menial of a task for anyone else to do.
“You know, I think I’m going to go lay down. I’m not feeling so good.” I say and leave the hospital room. I head back to my bed in the Omega Quarter down in the basement of the pack house.
“Brea? Are you down here?” I hear the voice of Gamma Aaron call out to me before entering the Quarter.
“Yes, I’m here,” I say before sitting up in my bed.
“Oh, wow, I’ve never been down to this part of the basement. Why are you down here? Didn’t you hear that Alpha Liam and Luna Jessica made a new area of the pack house for all the Omegas to sleep in?” Aaron says as he sits at the foot of my bed.
“No, actually I didn’t stay near the Alpha for too long after that rogue backhanded me. I felt fine, then suddenly I didn’t feel too hot. So, I figured I needed to lay down for a bit.” I say, not entirely lying, while I didn’t want to answer Alpha's question, I did start to feel strange.
“Do you think that you should go back to the pack doctor?” Aaron asks.
“Yeah, I probably should go and get checked out because I don’t understand what’s going on with me,” I say, rubbing my forehead.
“I’ll walk you to the hospital if that’d be okay,” Aaron says, helping me up from my bed.
Grabbing his hand, I let him help me to the hospital. Thankfully the Alpha is not hanging around still wanting an answer from me.
“Sandi,” Aaron calls out, bringing me to the nurse's station.
“Yeah? Oh, hello Gamma Aaron. How can I help you?” Sandi asks before looking towards me. “Oh my god, Brea! Are you alright?” Is the last thing I hear before collapsing.
Beeping is the only thing I hear for what seems like hours. When finally, I feel someone touching my face but I can’t move my hands.
“Brea? Can you hear me?” A faint voice calls out to me.
I squint my eyes as a bright light seems to have been turned on in the room, I must be in.
“Hey, we’re alright. You can open your eyes. While you were unconscious, I was listening to everything going on. And to make sure that nothing happened to you.” Kendra, my wolf, mind-links me.
“Thank you, Kendra. I don’t know what I’d do without you.” I mind-link her back.
A warm cloth smelling of rose petals and lilies is wiped over my eyes and it feels as though a weight is lifted off of them. Once I open my eyes, I see four people standing around my bed. Sandi, the pack doctor, Aaron, the pack Gamma, Liam, the Alpha, and Tyrene, my best friend.
“NE, what are you doing out of bed? You should be resting.” I say hoarsely.”
“Here, drink this,” Aaron says, handing me a cup of warm, delicious chamomile, lavender, and honey tea.
“Mhmm. Thank you.” I say smiling as the warm liquid soothes my dry throat.
“How are you feeling?” Sandi asks, looking worried.”
“I feel fine. Why? What happened to me?” I ask.
“Uhm, well, you seem to have come in contact with the Wolfsbane and Jade Vine mixture. But you’ve healed pretty quickly.” Sandi says.
“And uhm, Brea, they know now,” Tyrene says sheepishly.
“Know what?” I say, still a little groggy.
“You are of Alpha blood. Why didn’t you tell us this?” Alpha Liam says fuming, if life was a cartoon right now, I could swear steam would be coming out of his ears.
“I... um...” I begin to say when suddenly that most horrific blood-curdling scream rings out in the room.
Everyone covered their ears except me, only to realize the scream was coming from me. Once the scream faded a second one followed along with the pain of every bone of my body breaking at once.
“Kendra?” I strain to mind-link her. “What’s happening?”
“Brea, it hurts so bad. I can’t stop it. Help me!” Kendra mind-links me in agony.
“Brea!! Listen to me, try to relax your body.” Sandi shouts over my repeated screams and the breaking of my bones.
“I can’t, not even Kendra can help. We feel like we’re dying.” I struggle to get the words out in between screams.
“Alpha, what’s happening to her? She’s already shifted at 13 and has had her wolf since then. Why does it seem like she’s going through it again?” Tyrene shouts.
Reaching his hand out, Liam grabs my wrist and listens to the rhythm of my heartbeat. Sighing, “That’s because she’s not shifting. She may not know as it had to have happened sometime yesterday, but someone here who touched her wrist is her mate. And they are sleeping with someone else right now. The reason her bones are breaking is that that's the form her mate is in.” Liam says sadly.
“Whoever it is, I’ll kill them,” Tyrene says through gritted teeth.
“They probably don’t know yet.” Sighed Alpha Liam. “I’m so sorry Brea. When you find out who your mate is let me know and I’ll deal with what he is putting you through.”
I couldn’t answer through the screams and pain that Kendra and I were going through. It was like having a red-hot cattle prod shoved into my skin, all over.
“Aaron, where are you going?” Sandi asked as a very angry-looking Aaron stormed out of the room.
“I’m going to find her mate! Have nurses on standby.” Gamma Aaron tells her as he storms out of the room.
